what are they doing. 2 chances in 3 balls for no reason

This has been where Denly has struggled, got a start but hasn't kicked on to turn it into a score. Technically he looks steady but he needs to put runs on the board.

they've been careful for nearly an hour
now the "natural instincts" start to take over & all the problems start... |

Denly always looks good to me but never produces the goods

I think this will have been a pre discussed gameplan. I think the plan will have been block the first half hour then try and score. Australia will start to panic if run rate becomes a problem
|
|

They'll spread the field liber?
|
|
By:
Roy should be out by now that's what the aussies will be thinking
Its Stokes they are worried about |
|
By:
Not for a long time, but yes eventually. I was more thinking the bowlers will get impatient and go chasing

I think this will have been a pre discussed gameplan. I think the plan will have been block the first half hour then try and score if that's the plan its a bad 1 look at the prices...eng 34, draw 3.1 so much series equity at stake by playing for a draw prioritising a win at the expense of a draw is so high negative EV its unreal |

You can look to score without playing risky shots though. Whether Roy and Denlys decision making is good enough to make that distinction is another question. I just think if you simply try to block everything for 98 overs you’re doomed. Almost like when teams just sit back and invite City into them. I think you have to try and score when the opportunity presents to keep the bowlers honest and give them something to think about. As frustrating as seeing the batsman just block everything is, it’s more frustrating getting hit for 4. I’m also not sure just blocking for 98 overs is in Roy’s repertoire.

wish he'd put them flash shots away ffs

hitting boundaries is inherently more risky than blocking

Just me who thinks Australia should be sub 1.1?
|
|
By:
I don't think sub 1.1 but 1.29 aus is not underpriced imo

I think if England are 3 down at lunch draw could be closer to 2.5. Big if IMO though. Denly doesn’t fill me with confidence
