Hello Chaps,
Just back from a short trip to Belgium. Same old same old! My theorey to bowl at Smiff is to bowl a middle and leg line. Leg slip. long leg. square leg. Deep Backward very square leg, two short mid wickets. Mid on 3 on the off somewhere! As I said leg stump line but he is such a fine player he can deal with that. IMHO the deal is to vary the angle of attack from the crease i.e bowl wide and close to the stumps, move around the crease don't let him get into a slot. Change the length or don't settle on a length. He is a very good judge of length. He can aslo deal with this. The key then would be to incorporate the above with a change of pace. Pace can be difficult to judge. We are looking to get him caught at leg slip and fine leg off quicker balls. Deep backward off the hook or pull. Short mid wicket / square leg off slower balls or mi****. It is harder to place the ball precisely on the leg side than the offside. Easier to hit it in the air. The aim would be to try and dry up his runs by bowling one side of the wickets and forcing him to play scoring shots where there are fielders waiting. This is a dangerous game as he has such a great eye and can score quickly but I don't think this tictac has been tried at length with sustained skill and accuracy. We have a bowler in Archer who has the pace to bowl a legside line and he has good skill and a brain. I am not sure the others have enough skill or pace, maybe Broad could. Anyway that is my way of dealing with Smiff |

Is there a miracle 330+ from Eng in the tank?
Or even a performance where less than 3 wickets get thrown away? |

Celibate for 16 years? what no masterbation either?
If that's the case I'd be tearing down buildings ![]() |

Everythings been tried to death with Smith..FA seems to work hence best batsman in the world...reckon he's definitely on the autistic spectrum...i'd put a silly mid-off in, right in his eyeline and have his laces/fly undone..reckon it would really p!ss Smith off

SPD Smith
101(163) 11x4 - 0x6 Control % 93% Productive Shot Flick 38 runs Therein lies the problem His control is excellent! But sometimes your strength can also be your weakness. We know where he likes to score. I am not saying bowl to his strengths but defend his strong areas. Do not give him easy runs in his scoring areas make him work for them by challenging him to go through or over his scoring areas. Again I say change of pace, angle and length plus a bumper barrage from Archer. If you bowl a 4th stump line you cannot have slips and defend both sides of the wicket. He can take his time to wait for the half volley and alse keep moving across the line to fins the leg side gaps. It is a tough call because he is so good but I have not seen anyone sustaining a leg theory challenge and would like to see it |

ffs roy

|
By:
wtf Roy again
|
|
By:
the selectors come in for some stick but fair play for recruiting a SAFFER who not only scores a ton of test runs when needed but is also a superb slip fielder..sometimes they DO get it right
|
|
By:
Some huge draw backs coming in!
|
|
By:
At this rate Roy will soon be batting 11 and fielding at third man
