Quite satisfying to see the rain last night. I still agree with Tyco. NZ win this.
They have got enough of a lead to be able to declare on Monday and still have enough time to skittle Engerland again. A washout tomorrow will help get the exchange going! I can't believe how woeful England have been this winter starting with the Selectors, The Heirachy about Stokes, Bayliss, the back room staff and the team! We were close a couple of times but came up short. This New Zealand stage is looking embarassing. Bayliss must go. He has added nothing! |

Messed this up with a combination of greed, slight misjudgement and being asleep at the wrong times again. I moved my draw backs in the low 6s out, which would have been matched and put me near flat on the draw and also missed some high 5s when rain was coming but I was at least half asleep. As it is I’m pretty much push if I chose to be but will actually run my draw red. I still think this sees enough play for a result. I’m looking forward to the fat spinner having a bat.

Bayliss and his staff are responsible for the ludicrous warm up games that had no competitive edge. They were farcical. His main job is of course preparation.
The blame often goes to the host nation for not supplying adequate parctice matches. It's a daft accusation when England could just play against each other. Bring in a few fielders and have Broad, Anderson, Woakes, Overton etc bowl at the batsman. That would be edgy. |

I may well be misreading the radar and it’s a few hours to play yet anyway but the pictures look a lot better than the forecast to me. If there’s some play this morning the market will probably have at least a few kittens, as this must be the day where the expectation was of very little if any cricket. Anyway, have taken some lays under 4 to go £4.5k draw red again.

Other question is how NZ approaches this with a day almost entirely washed out yesterday but still three days of play nominally to come. I guess if they get out first thing (aka early afternoon) and it’s looking okay for at least a few hours of play today there’s no need to hurry and they’d can just wait for the fat spinner to do the biffing later.

i dont think they will change their game plan, Monday still looks ok for virtually a full day so any play today and tomorrow is about building the lead so they can bowl them out on Monday

I think it’s slow to react and am tempted by yet another lay. I get that it’s hard to be sure but people are going on the forecast rather than the pictures and one of them is wrong.

the forecast was updated 30 minutes ago and hasn't changed, so they must be confident its right, who knows?? i think it will probably be similar to yesterday, we will have some play then the rain and showers will come in

I’ve taken the lay mid 4s and will look to get rid of some low and some mid 5s. Pretty confident the market will have further to go if they start on time, which looks very probable now.
I’m not sure how effectively they update the forecast for the next few hours to come. Lot of sites (NZ Met is a better one, I admit), stick with their prior prediction of rain, even if the skies are clear. |

It’s about whether that rain off the W coast isn’t making it across or not. I think it’s missing and the most of it could go past. I’m taking a big stand on this and will be in an anxious place for the rest of the test if today is washed out. I think I get out of gaol on days 4 and 5 though, if I have to.

Indeed. I’m at risk of confirmation bias here but that rain really look to be missing, at least for a couple of hours. I’m not sure whether the Eastern bit of the front over the mainland is going to catch Auckland but it looks pretty feeble and unlikely to kill play for long even if it does. There’s some further loose stuff behind it but again it’s showers, not solid rain. At worst I don’t expect to get rid of some red a bit above 5s.

I got shot of a bit of red at 4.7 and have some other backs up around 5s, with some lays at 4 and under. Could work.
