should be scoring at over 3 an over after lunch unless
yorks get well on top

I've been expecting acceleration from middlesex during this game and in previous matches (warwickshire etc) and it just hasn't happened, these 2 still together after lunch I can see them pushing on but breaking this partnership will slow them and yorks have a new ball later too

The only way Middlesex can win, is by setting something around 10 an over so 200 off 20 seems about right, the thing is, whatever happens in those 20 overs, say Yorkshire again are 20-3 from 3 overs, Yorkshire will continue to chase the runs, regardless of whether they are 20-3, 100-6, 150-9 at anytime in those 20 overs, as only a win gets the Championship for Yorkshire. Now these stupid commentators are talking about money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but players will only be thinking about winning the Championship. In the same way Middlesex will not be able to bowl wide down the legside, because although the umpires won't call a wide in the CC, they are less likely to take wickets.

correct, nobody is thinking of the money Laugh
yorks finish 3rd if they draw or lose so its win or bust for them anyway

at 4 an over for 50 overs they would chase 230 off 25

i would want more than 20 overs to bowl in middlesex's shoes
the suggestion before of 27 sounds good too

230 off 25 I don't see a result either tbh
By:

When: 23 Sep 16 11:54
Surely the most likely way to get a result is if Yorks bring on the declaration bowlers and the 2 captains agree on a 50/60 over chase
By:
wondersobright
When: 23 Sep 16 11:56
they should have been agreeing 300-320 off 50 overs way earlier, can't do that now imo horse bolted a long time ago
By:

When: 23 Sep 16 11:57
when yorks had the 100+ lead in the 1st inns middlesex would have bitten their hand off for 300 in 75 overs

Need to have a chase where both teams have a good chance of winning
By:
wondersobright
When: 23 Sep 16 11:59
just my opinion tom but I'd be amazed if either team is fav at the start of the chase that is set

Seems like the way its going, one team is hopeful the other is going to lose the game in their own pursuit of victory (if that makes sense)
By:

When: 23 Sep 16 12:00
look at the odds now draw 2.18 yorks 3.45 middlesex 3.85

take the draw out of the equation with an earlier creative declaration both teams are better off, now they've gone down the road they have both teams are worse off, work that 1 out

makes perfect sense tom, and if this game was on a result wicket it would make perfect sense

this deck will win imo

still possible to setup a chase if they wanted to, bowl some 30 run overs
By:
wondersobright
When: 23 Sep 16 12:03
yes, 20 overs of pies from lees and ballance and defo both teams will benefit

I cant see it tbh as I don't think either team will blink, not on what they've shown so far

I know both teams need to win and you'd think a draw isnt possible but you see it all the time in white ball cricket where teams stop really trying once they feel the game is lost. Yorks won't just throw their wickets away if they're not going to get near the total

This 5th day pitch is better than that patch they produced for the final the other dayCrazy

poor final wasn't it juce

I used to love the old C&G, now I wish it wasn't in the calendar Sad saying stuff like that depresses me how the game has gone Sad

Juce this might have been the pitch they intended to play the final on.
They werent planning to use this pitch for this game, had to change pitches when Sky decided they wanted to cover this game after all.
(Wild speculation)

if there is a target set by negotiation then you would
expect a condition would be that yorkshire do not play
for a draw on losing wickets.

(a) a total of < 220 will be set
By:

(b) I fancy Yorks to chase anything set on this track
By:

in your opinion pj what is the minimum number of overs that would need to be left for yorkshire to be chasing 220 and be favs to win the championship?? its in excess of 30 imo
By:

When: 23 Sep 16 12:22
Surely Yorks must be starting to realise they arent going to bowl out middlesex cheaply

220 of 30 makes them favourite, yes I go along with that

220 off 30 is tough on a day 4 pitch, seen some real pea rollers on this
