Juce,

I think Faulkener was banned from the ODI's and T20's after the drink driving while playing for Lancashire. I don't think he was selected for the Test Squad.

Thanks Juce - agreed, that's the sort of pitch to delight Broad but not Lyth!!

A bit hard on Marsh. He did everything that was asked of him and didn't get picked. Don't know how much batting he has since those hundreds but if he comes in and gets 2 low scores it will be rough.

Aus really should include Cummins for M Marsh. He has good pace and pitches it up. That way they can keep the pressure on the England middle even if Starc is not hitting his straps.

I would seriously consider Twatto too as I said before. Despite his glaring weaknesses he does have some experience. If Not Twatto then Marsh at 3 with Smudger and Clarke dropping down one to prtotect them  a bit more.

I am still waiting to hear from anyone who knows why Faulkener was not selected?

Cummings is a strike bowler, he's not going to dry up runs which has been Australia's biggest  problem
Clarke should go to 5 Marsh 4

No way Cummins can play, he's only bowled 240 odd overs in his whole first class career & he hasn't played a four day game for a few years either. He can't possibly be physically and mentally fit enough.

Some forecasts are showing rain around mid-day.

Faulkner - wouldnt have thought his fc batting average would be good enough for the no 6 spot so they went with the younger guy in Mitch Marsh who wouldnt have that good an average either but is young so may improve on the job and Watson - couldnt see a squad with 3 very similar players, means you couldnt pick a 2nd spinner probably which means no cover if Lyon got injured.

Personally i would have picked Joe burns as a pure batsman at no 6 and lived with 4 bowlers which is all you need in Eng most of the time unless it is very flat in which case Smith or even Voges can bowl a few overs here and there.

Anderson a huge miss imo, got to fancy aus. Not a bad toss for either captain to lose this one when you look at morning conditions.

It's going to certainly do a bit early on, quite overcast in Nottingham at the moment and forecast for cloud cover till late into the afternoon session.

If Clarke wins the toss would he be brave enough to put England in? Surely Cook would bat first without Anderson? A really tough one to call.

I just hope it goes to 4 days at least as I have tickets for Sunday.

you'd think that the captain winning the toss may well bat first based on recent trends. However it just feels like a bowl first kind of morning with the conditions.

normally you'd bat but with so much grass on the track hard not to bowl

Clarke almost stormed off from the interview, cursing his bad luck on losing the toss. Australia will battle very very hard, in this game. After 2 hours, we will know how much the ball will do.

those cracks will open so batting last may be difficult for us

I don't think I'd want to be batting first or last! Aus may get a second chance if they are batting again Saturday as it is set fair. Lets just hope for some ebbs and flows.

This is going to be tough on Shaun Marsh.

Grant: "Why is Clarke at number 5? Still 7 places too high in the batting order for my liking." Ouch. Surely time to back to the captain?

its strange that cracks have appeared overnight, make me wonder, if that was supposed to happen, hoping to con Clarke into batting first, on this strip, although if cracks are there, they can only open up, leaving Lyon to exploit them. Groundsman/England obviously hoping for another 3 day game.

Taking England on at about 2.85 average.  If Aus get anything approaching a decent score in their first innings, there's a fair chance that England will capitulate and find chasing a tough task on this wicket.  Happy to oppose England at the odds.  Best of luck, everyone.

Trent Bridge is Andersons only ground is it not?  Massive out.

Australia though really don't seem on.  Clarke out of form, Smith really making bad decisions.  Concentration looks shot.  Hard to be taking anywhere near 2.20 Aus when they seem so shaky.
Looks like a good decision on the toss, England have to be favs here.  Aus/Eng opposites here for mine.

Anderson however, massive massive out.  Only ground I will ever say it.

Might have been better to wait before laying England Rob. Could be a couple of early wickets to send the punters into a frenzy and then you would get a btter price. I have made my move already. Aus lay but may well buy it back if the new ball does the trick. Nothing is certain here. The ground is on sand and the pitch may well dry out if the game lasts a bit. If Aussie make it to this afternoon only 2 or 3 down they may well be able to take command.

Other thing is, if they get started and don't lose play, then a wet ball plays right into Aus.

Agree with ^^ in a way.  Only real play early is to lay Aus.  For mine though, I will play it safe and wait for proof of strategy before entering the market.  Certainly looking at an Aus lay though at the odds.

Maybe so.  Or maybe Warner and Rogers put on a ton and we don't see England as low again in the entire match.  Happy to lay England at the odds with the added advantage of an Ashes win cushioning the blow should I be paying out.  Not often one can say that!
