Don't want to be too pessimistic, but I think we'll need 500...
As dull a pitch as you could have the misfortune to see. Let's hope it drys out and goes uneven later in the match.. |

had a small top up on the draw. unless the pitch blows up I think it is going to be hard to get 40 wickets

if Ballance couldnt even be bounced out you know it's flat

How did they bowl to Ballance? He looks so vulnerable when it's pitched right up there.

What has he done ?" -- They're simply chanting "Rooooooot", Henry. 56.3 Johnson to Stokes, no run, fullish on middle and off, defended towards mid-on 56.2 Johnson to Stokes, no run, length ball outside off, shuffles forward to punch to mid-off 56.1 Johnson to Stokes, SIX, bouncer, and Stokes hooks Johnson for six. Well, not quite. Looked to swat it away from wide outside off, and ends up top-edging it over the keeper and all the way over the rope Sairam: "Test match scores in 2015: 83, 59, 182*, 98, 84, 101* Ladies & gentlemen, Joseph Edward Root." End of over 56 (10 runs) England 209/4 JE Root 107 (123b 15x4 0x6) BA Stokes 3 (8b 0x4 0x6) JR Hazlewood 17-5-57-2 MG Johnson 14-1-59-0 55.6 Hazlewood to Root, no run, fullish on off stump, straightens a touch, blocked confidently back to the bowler 55.5 Hazlewood to Root, 2 runs, short ball, sits up, and Root swivels to pull it to the left of long leg 55.4 Hazlewood to Root, no run, length ball outside off, left alone 55.3 Hazlewood to Root, FOUR, fullish on off stump and that is another lovely drive from Root, this time showing the full face to ease the ball between the non-striker and mid-on 55.2 Hazlewood to Root, no run, length ball outside off, stays back and dabs it into the slips with an open bat face 55.1 Hazlewood to Root, FOUR, full and wide, and that's a superb way to bring up a superb hundred, comes forward, nice and low, and opens his bat face to drive it square to the point boundary. Celebrates by punching the air, taking his helmet off, and embracing Stokes. England's balcony is up on its feet, and so is pretty much everyone in the crowd. End of over 55 (maiden) England 199/4 BA Stokes 3 (8b 0x4 0x6) JE Root 97 (117b 13x4 0x6) MG Johnson 14-1-59-0 JR Hazlewood 16-5-47-2 54.6 Johnson to Stokes, no run, fullish outside off again and there's some more lazy feet from Stokes, walks into his shot as he check-drives to mid-off 54.5 Johnson to Stokes, no run, length ball outside off and this time he gets his front foot out to drive to mid-off 54.4 Johnson to Stokes, no run, back of a length, straightens a touch again, defended watchfully into the off side 54.3 Johnson to Stokes, no run, length ball close to off stump, and those feet aren't going anywhere. Hangs his bat out to defend, at an angle, and inside-edges into his feet 54.2 Johnson to Stokes, no run, back of a length, straightens a touch towards off stump, and Stokes is opened up slightly while defending into the off side 54.1 Johnson to Stokes, no run, back of a length, a bit of movement away but it's wide enough outside off for Stokes to leave easily Simon: "Does Sam have a positive spin on the Asian stock market slide too?" Shafay: "Losing balance and falling over was the root cause of the last dismissal." End of over 54 (5 runs) England 199/4 JE Root 97 (117b 13x4 0x6) BA Stokes 3 (2b 0x4 0x6) JR Hazlewood 16-5-47-2 MG Johnson 13-0-59-0 53.6 Hazlewood to Root, no run, full on middle stump, clipped to mid-on over the wicket to Root 53.5 Hazlewood to Stokes, 3 runs, full, angled into off stump. No real footwork from Stokes as he looks to drive it, ends up squeezing it away through midwicket 53.4 Hazlewood to Stokes, no run, back of a length, slanted down the leg side Here's Ben Stokes. Hazlewood continues from around the wicket 53.3 Hazlewood to Ballance, OUT, plumb! It's full, angled into the stumps, and Ballance plays all around it looking to flick around the corner. I don't think that swung at all, it was just the angle, and it thudded into his pads and umpire Dharmasena was very quick to raise his finger. Ballance only briefly thinks of reviewing before trudging off. Hawkeye says it will have crashed into middle and leg stump GS Ballance lbw b Hazlewood 61 (149b 8x4 0x6) SR: 40.93 53.2 Hazlewood to Ballance, no run, length ball on a fifth-stump line, left alone 53.1 Hazlewood to Ballance, 2 runs, full, angling into off and middle, flicked away through backward square leg Hazlewood, from around the wicket End of over 53 (4 runs) England 194/3 JE Root 97 (116b 13x4 0x6) GS Ballance 59 (146b 8x4 0x6) MG Johnson 13-0-59-0 JR Hazlewood 15-5-42-1 52.6 Johnson to Root, FOUR, once again Root is unsure about the movement or lack thereof from Johnson. It's slanted across on a fullish length, and he's late to come forward or across and ends up slicing his drive wide of point 52.5 Johnson to Root, no run, length ball outside off, and Root isn't sure what the ball is going to do. Feet are a little late moving across, and he pokes it nervily towards backward point 52.4 Johnson to Root, no run, ooh. He's been getting some swing into the right-hander all through the over, and this one holds its line. The length invites the drive, and the angle carries it past Root's outside edge 52.3 Johnson to Root, no run, length ball angling across towards off stump, punched back to the bowler 52.2 Johnson to Root, no run, once again, quite full. This time it's a bit wider and he drives into the covers 52.1 Johnson to Root, no run, fullish, a bit of shape in towards off stump, driven confidently to mid-off Sam: "Not sure which game you were watching if you think England were "untroubled" all session - Root was close to getting LBW, Ballance extremely troubled by Johnson from around the wicket, not to mention several edges that didn't carry and look away shots off the handle that narrowly missed fieldsman. England may not have lost a wicket but it was arguably Australia's session - funny how this marvellous game can go like that." 4.00pm We're back, and so are all those men in various shades of white/cream. They come out through a guard of honour of little kids holding up flags - didn't notice exactly what flags they were. Looks like it's Johnson to begin, from left-arm over. Don't worry the IPL is back in April. Until then please don't play with matches, it may be a long hot summer( raining in Kent! ).

I actually like the IPL don't get me wrong. Nearly committed Hari Kiri after 4 games as I am a Mumbai Indians fans, go figure!
Right Juce, I think this go after Lyon thing is important. England lucky to have short straight boundaries for this match. I think the England middle order can take the game to Aus on flat pitches. Scorebooard pressure can have an impact. Must put Aussie on the defensive when the ball is soft. |
|
By:
anybody have any views on an England back to lay?
|
|
By:
I've just layed England WD.
Not sure the price will shorten considerably. The longer we bat the more pressure on the draw price imo. |
|
By:
Food for thoughts, Aus have the worst record for last innings out of the top 8 countries in terms of overs faced. They find the thought of playing for the draw frightfully boring
