England 247-2

India 1-0 up.

Dhoni will sleep well.

Between overs 50 and 80 Eng had to attack Jadeja (22 overs for 34!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

They didn't. He bowled a negative line but I saw no slog sweeps or even a sweep!

Eng have gone nowhere. I'm looking for the Moores approach, the Moores angle. I'm still looking. He doesn't even have a spinner for Day 5!!

Dhoni's 'done a job' and if Moores and Cook can't see that then gawd help us...

A bit jammed up after another toss went against me. Lumping on the draw is my only real option.

In Dhoni we, or at least I, trust.

Ive never been so disillusioned by an  English cricket team in my life. Boring team, boring individuals and boring pitches. I even won a nice bit of cash today betting on the draw, but hardly took any satisfaction from that either!

Haven't yet struck a bet...can't see there's going to be much volatility so probably going to forget about this match which looks guaranteed to be a draw

I've left this game alone (apart from laying England at the start of the series).
Once Ishant Sharma was declared unfit, it might prove a shrewd move bringing back Rohit Sharma as an extra batsman at number 5, pushing MSD down to 7 - a line-up that suggests India will be quite happy to leave Southampton still in front.

What a yawn of a day. Went out and did some gardening during the afternoon for a bit of excitement.

you've gotta say 61 runs after tea when 1 wicket down is absolutely shocking and symptomatic of the approach under this leadership

chances are england will need every last over to get even close to winning this and just can't afford to waste time and overs like that

Its the end of day one and the draw is odds on, although what the pitch will do is a bit unknown

My first bet of the test is a moderate punt on India at 18, must surely trade quite a bit lower at some point over the next four days

With India's strong batting lineup, draw should come in the next couple of days assuming no unlikely IMO collapse.

What a snooze fest I think England's biggest problem is they play not to lose, rather than to win

Let's hope Cook's homework last night was to write out 500 times,

'I will not play for a draw.'

You have to try to have a sense of humuor when you lose as much money as I have recently.

England to score 550+. Kohli to score 100 1st innings and match drawn.

Ballance's performance is excellent no matter what his origins .  He possibly now has the best batting record of anyone of his age in an England shirt .  And he has done it at a time when England have been pretty crap --how long since they actually won a test match ?

Not spectacular though , and that seems to count a lot with some observers .
