Not much of a break between Tests.

Colombo generally a result wicket that suits seamers early and spinners later.

Showers in the forecast, but what do you expect in SL.

A good toss to lose for SAF, allowing their seamers to get early advantage.

I expect another SAF win in a close match, especially if they ditch Tahir.

Steyn's acting career hasn't affected his bowling.

Hi pxb, I am also going for a result and am wondering why the draw is so short?

Normally, SA would be quite happy to play for the draw (last 4 in 5 in Colombo have finished that way). HOWEVER, SA have a carrot in front of them. If they win 2-0, they will go to the top of the world test rankings ahead of Australia. Obviously draw is no good to SL, so could be an intriguing game.

I don't trust the weather forecasts so will be looking to Lay Sri lanka again as it keeps the draw onside. Hoping for a better price than 4 though so holding fire for now.

This one looks a bit tricky

Those draws have had massive innings totals, inc 700 and odd by India

You would have though Lanka would prepare a result pitch but who knows and the weather is also a big factor

Pre off draw lay at about evens is temping

Apologies. I was looking at the results for the other Colombo ground.

SSC is indeed a high scoring ground with a high percentage of draws. Herath does well here later in the match.

In light of that and Tahir's poor form, I'm switching to a lay of SAF.

South Africas ball tamperers against a team not paid by their board. Good luck with that folks

Draw has shortened to 1.88. Getting into laying territory with Steyn in the form he is in.

Wanted to back to lay the draw, but looks too late for that.

massive lay of the draw for me here, same as the last game. The last game was obvious in Galle because he made a featherbed against Bangaladesh after preparing a 'deemed' under prepared deck against NZ in the previous game.
This pitch has had a draw in the last 3 and with SL being behind I think the groundsman will have been 'advised' to make it turn. Also the reputation of the pitch is at stake. 4 draws in a row is dreadful by any standards & after Trent Bridge's failure the groundsman could be under pressure to prepare a result pitch. Weather forecasts are hit and miss. As somebody who lives in the tropics, the forecast is normally worse than the actual. Anyway going blind on this one & reassess as necessary!

Free money on the draw. Rain forecast on each of the 5 days play. Draw odds shortened considerably on exchanges and with bookies. Am on at evens and 1.91 can see it 1.83 before start of play.

Colomobo is a specialist draw Test match ground as are most sub continent wickets.

Skybet, Stan James and Ladcrooks are top price evens and you know how crap those 3 are. Draw price certain to come in.

I would keep the draw onside. 5 of the last 7 Test matches at this ground have finished as draws. Had a look at some weather forecasts and it doesn't look too good. Thunderstorms and lightning and greater than 50% chance of precipitation on 4 out of the 5 days.

They might aswell just pay me out now.

Isn't the weather forecast similar to that of the 1st Test?
By:

When: 22 Jul 14 13:44
Don't know didn't follow the 1st Test. This Colombo ground doesn't produce results. I'm looking to lay off my stake at about 1.83. The only factor that could stop it coming in too much more is that Sri Lanka are 1-0 down so need the win.

pxb,

SL win at Galle then draw at SSC!

I would be concerned that they may prepare a bunsen as they lost at Gale.  I might suggest caution until you see what type of wicket is being prepared.  Harry Brind is not the groundsman!

My gut is saying they produce a result wicket and I would favour SA but my preferred bet is a lay of the side losing the toss.

Since the SL price on the main market continues to weaken I've backed South Africa on the "draw no bet"
Market.
Am keeping some powder dry until the game is in progress.

WD,

Reports say no paceman replacement for the injured Eranga, which implies another spinner - Mendis? So bunsen prediction may well be correct.

No team news for SAF. Chandimal dropped for a new keeper.

Agree, toss will be important. And laying the team that loses a good strategy.

I trade a fair amount pre-match looking to catch pre-match market moves and build my preferred position for start of play. Missed out on the draw move this time even though I predicted it. Always looking for that extra tick.

May turn out to be a 'typical' Test match. Looks like a draw day 2 and we get a result day 5.

KoD,

Just because a market is efficient, doesn't mean the prices accurately reflect the probable outcomes.

I'm favoring India at this stage. Weather doesn't look an issue.

Missed the juicy prices this morning but 4.7 for SA still looks high so took a small interest. Unless the pitch really is dire or there is a first day wash out then should be able to trade out quite quickly.

I think I have to saty out of this till the match starts.  SSC is usually a road but herath can come in to it towards the end of the match hence dubious about buying SA ( my favs to win ) if they lose toss.  Bifg thing for me is SL lost 1st Test so what can we expect from the wicket?

Erranga is a big loss but Prasad looks capable.  SL can only get 20 wickets if it spins like a top though. Am trying to get some info from my SL Accountant if they are likely to prepare a result wicket or not.  It is times like this I wish I had paid my bill!

By:

Sri Lanka have obviously tried to prepare a result wicket as they are 1-0 down. Sri Lanka price has shortened, SA would be quite happy with a draw and a series win.
By:
jucel69
When: 23 Jul 14 13:59
Not sure SA will play for the a draw from the get go. If circumstances dictate they play for a draw then they probably will. Just like Aus did at Colombo in about 2011
