The barmy army is about as stupid as the England selectors really.  They still don't understand it isn't working.

Sing away.  You aint inspiring the uninspirable.....

Warner mind on the job btw.  Good enough for mine to see this total out.

The worst thing about the England team, is that they in no way deserve the support they receive. Listen to the barmy army right now. I know beer works wonders in these situations, but these guys have forked out thousands for this, and are still here chanting and supporting their team. They are brilliant, and this shambolic team don't deserve it.

Respect to the army.

Most Aussie are too dumb to know what The Barmy Army is all about.

i agree up to a point, but they should be heckling their team, instead of which they could not care less.

They are only there for the party.

there is a international football team with similar supporters to the barmy army.

The Football fans have changed too.  Those bad days are gone and it is a different crowd.  I remember going to Cologne in 2006 and there something like 50,000 to 60,000 England fans in the City and no trouble at all.

That's good WD. Brazil will be interesting, nutters everywhere in South America. Will surely be a few deaths amongst the supporters. Let's hope your football team puts on a better show for you, but I think they don't get out of the group they're in.

Having fun is one thing, but forking out big bucks to support a team that has shown themselves to be gutless and undeserving is another.

They are in Australia, so they should enjoy themselves.  But if I turned out and my team didn't give a yelp, so far in 4 test matches, I certainly would be pissed off.
They don't deserve support right now.  They deserve to be strung up from the top down, and shaken clear of all the deadwood.  There is plenty there.

Start with the coach, then the captain.  Then anybody that shows zero heart.  There are a few hangers on there.  Prior shouldn't get back in, Swann gone, Trott, Cook worst captain cricket has seen.
Realistically, there isn't 1 person in the team, that deserves anybody praising them for effort.  It has been that bad.

The barmy army are not giving support.  they are singing for themselves, nothing to do with the team they are "following".

As for  Engerland football fans, very few will travel and the ones that do im sure wont put a chair through a shop window.

If they do, and anyone is about, swift justice will be met out to them.

2010s[edit]
There were minor disturbances during and after England's 4-1 defeat to Germany during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. A German flag was burned down amongst a mob of English supporters in Leicester Square in England, as well as damage to a Haagen Daz restaurant within the vicinity. One German fan amongst the crowd was confronted by the mob, but there were no injuries.[149]
On 1 December 2010, supporters of rival West Midlands clubs Aston Villa and Birmingham City clashed at St Andrew's stadium after a Football League Cup tie, which resulted in 14 people being injured - less than 24 hours before England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup failed.[150] Missiles were hurled onto the pitch, a rocket flare was released in the stands, and there were also scuffles in nearby streets. By this stage, football hooliganism was rising dramatically, with 103 incidents of hooliganism involving under 19's in the 2009-10 season compared to 38 the season before. Cass Pennant, a former football hooligan, said that the rise in football hooliganism was the result of rising unemployment, poverty, and social discontent in the aftermath of the recent recession - a similar situation which had affected Britain for much of the 1970s and 1980s when hooliganism was at its peak.[151]
Football hooliganism in the English game is not exclusively in the Football League, as a few sparse incidents have occurred in the English non-league. For example on 19 February 2011, fighting broke out before and after the match between Chorley and Chester supporters during a top of the table clash between the sides.
In a match between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United on 19 October 2012, a fan of Leeds United attacked Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland during a pitch invasion to celebrate a goal.[152] The FA afterwards confirmed it would investigate the incident.[153] The hooligan had been identified on social media sites as someone who had previously been banned from every football ground in the UK.[154] Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones said that Leeds fans were "vile animals" and called for them to be excluded from away matches in future.[153]
As well as physical violence, verbal abuse has regularly been used by football hooligans. Supporters of various rival clubs have frequently taunted Manchester United fans with chants and songs regarding the Munich air disaster of 1958, which claimed the lives of 23 people including eight of the club's players. Liverpool fans have also faced taunts regarding the Hillsborough disaster of 1989 in which 96 of the club's fans were fatally injured in a human crush at an FA Cup semi-final.[155] Dave Jones, as of November 2012 manager of Sheffield Wednesday, has faced taunts from the fans of a number of rival clubs relating to child abuse charges he was acquitted of in 2000.[156] Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who has played in England for Arsenal, Manchester City and now Tottenham Hotspur, has been taunted by supporters of rival clubs on many occasions.
After surviving a gun attack on the Togolose national team's bus in January 2010, he has been taunted by rival fans making fun of the shooting[157] and since before that date was also taunted with a song alleging that his father was employed as a menial labourer washing elephants and that his mother was a prostitute.[158] Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been target of abuse from Arsenal fans since his transfer between the two clubs in 2006, with Arsenal fans accusing him of making the transfer merely for the sake of much higher wages.[159]
Cole has also faced verbal abuse from fans of Arsenal and other clubs about the collapse of his marriage to pop star Cheryl in 2010.[160] In January 2012, it was reported that the then Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp had been taunted by Barnsley fans about the death of his two-day-old son Luey Jacob in October 2011.[161]
In a FA Cup semi-final match between Millwall and Wigan Athletic on 13 April 2013, the worst episode of violence witnessed at the New Wembley yet occurred when Millwall fans fought amongst themselves. 14 arrests were made.[162] On the same weekend, on 14 April 2013, violence broke out at a Premier League match between Newcastle United and Sunderland at St James' Park finished 3-0 to the Black Cats, this resulted in home fans rioting. Bottles were thrown, bins were set on fire and a horse was punched as mounted officers tried to move crowds back to allow visiting fans to be escorted to Metro and rail services. Twenty-nine arrests were made during the game itself.[163]

Rhino,

Brazil will be difficult for all travelling fans so there won't be as big numbers as usual.  The English cowards who fight and rob only do it when they have a mob.  They would get cut to pieces if they tried it in Brazil. Normally the locals leave tourists alone as they bring in money but there is a feeling of ill will in Brazil over the world cup and while I don't expect Brazillians to attack tourists I can envisage the odd riot. Further to that if a Formula One team can get robbed of £100,000 in cash at gun point I'd expect most tourists with lesser security than an F1 team to show some decorum.

I wasn't just referring to English fans WD, anyones fans are in trouble over there. The Russian fans are mad as meat axes, so are the Argies, Bosnians, and the hosts are lunatics. Plenty of potential for carnage.

Most football world cups are carnivals.  The trouble usually occurs only in Europe with drunken English mobs in numbers or locals wanting to repay favours from the past by English thugs.

The warlike Germans and the huge Dutchies....they sing about stolen bicycles at the end of world war 2, go figure.

I think this world cup will be a celebration as usual.  Looking forward to it.  I think England will get out of the group but still don't expect too much of them.  I would rather see the youngsters in the side and play without fear like Wiltshire and Barclay.

It's a struggle. Justified 3rd fave in that group. Better chance than my boys though! Long way to go, but I reckon Neymar at 14s for the golden boot is sexy as hell Excited Brazil will dismantle their group, could have it in the bag after 3 games.

I'm frequently pessimistic about the teams I support, but I don't consider this a fait accompli for the Aussies. They didn't make 230 in the first innings, and if a few wickets fall the wobbly boots will kick in.

All of which is to say I'm taking them on at 1.22 (if I can get it) with the expectation they'll lengthen at least a bit tomorrow. England really need to find some ticker overnight though!

very true anom,

far from being gsm.  aussie have a reputation as chokers.  all very well taking the michael out of sa for not going for it but aus have showed over the years that they are the masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  wait till the ball starts to reverse tomorrow and monty starts spinning it.

that is why out nation is great.  we never give up!  and that is why our army is called barmy.  we don't turn tail and run like so many of your aussie posters have suggested they would do! that is why we have Great in our name!

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender

I guess some of you don't get it do you?

Australia has found a way to win, simple as that. Meanwhile the poms keep losing, order is restored in the world and things are back to the way they should be.
