funny pitch this - might not be straight forward 4th innings chase imo

Second,
We have been thoroughly outplayed in Aus but more importantly thoroughly out thought since Lords. It is down to the players but if they are consistently not performing to standard and the management does nothing then the ultimate responsibility lies with Flower. Let me say one thing though, our clowns can reverse a cricket ball almost as well as a Pakistani. The game isn't over yet and some of those here crowing may well be seething sometime tomorrow nil desperandum ![]() |

We do have a chance although whether we can take any opportunity offered is a different matter - even if we could somehow win it will hide all the inadequacies which now need immediate attention - a 5-0 whitewash cannot be simply put down to tactical errors and poor form of practically all of the touring party and will hopefully lead to a proper inquest as to how everyone involved could allow this catastrophe to happen

can anyone please tell me if aus are only around 20 runs short at the end of afternoon session, or England are a wicket from victory do they still come off , or can they add half hour to the session
By:
Long time since anyones made 230 to win here. England great price im on again .
Cant see them getting much past 150 . |
By:
I understand the reason for the question elisjohn , but I think situations like that generate a slight debate between the parties including the umpires , so hard to stipulate exact rules . 200 runs should need 3 sessions normally , unless wickets fall or England give up .

Should be over before tea on Day 4.

stats from howzat, australia have chased down a target less than 235 on 8 occasions at the mcg with 2 losses and 1 draw, england have 3 wins 4 losses and 1 draw with the same stats,so the omens look good for the aussies
By:
mind you the last 10 years or so 4th innings chases at the MCG have seen teams all out for less than 200 several times
By:
Presumably some of these MCG chases were on 5th day pitches along with additional pressures of time against them?
By:
With McGrath and Warne bowling to them...
By:
The stats also show that England have been bowled out for less than 180 4 times out of 8 goes this series while Australia has a second lowest score of 295, and only been bowled out 3 times all series.
So to simply look at England struggling, and comparing them with McGrath and Warne, is negligent. Once again, watch the first over or 2, and hook in either way. |
By:
This pitch is a belter - Aus have little pressure - only one result here for me the only question is 3 or 4 wickets down when they win?
