Is Rankin coming in for Eng? Any other changes? You don't need a spinner in Perth. Although most teams play one. Will it be Monty? He did OK here, 3 years ago I think.

Write of England at the WACA ground at your peril IMO, Anderson and the Fremantle Doctor and Broad and the bounce and pace of the wicket could turn this into a very low scoring 3 day test, one good partnership could be the difference.
Reflection time My school Trinity College shared a fence line with the WACA and we had a gate from the school into the ground which we were able to use during our lunch break, got into a lot of trouble more than once for not returning to school after lunch. To catch the bus home we had to walk around the WACA and the old practice nets where 100 meters into the walk. Missed many busses standing 2 meters behind the batsman, Viv,Clive, Chapel, Waugh, Gower etc while Holding, Marshal,Garner, Lilliie, Hogg, Passco sent down thunder bolts, Mike Gatting even told me to fck off for making jokes about his weight LOL. Anyway that's all |

As Justin Langer once said, you get good value for your shots at the WACA. Last 3 games at the WACA in terms of overs bowled: 321.5 (South Africa V Australia), 210.0 overs (Australia V India), 261.3 overs (Australia V England). So your right, can see this game finishing inside 3-4 days as mentioned in another thread.

I'm not writing England off. Which is why I won't back Aus at the current sub 1.8 price. Not going to lay Aus either.
My 2c worth is England need to roll the dice and play 4 quicks. Can't see them winning with the bat in Perth, but they might win with the ball. |

England quite happy for a low-scoring shoot out - they have the bowlers, and it will only need one or two of the bats to fire to be in with a shout. 1.75 versus 4.0 for the win seems a big gap to me.

managed to get to lay the draw at 4.5/4.6. happy days. Off to Perth on Wednesday so will try to give live updates if there is wifi at the ground.

seems to be a lot of showers forecast later on in the week according to beeb , is the draw too high at 5.9 especially if oz can bat for the first 2 days ?

Somehow I can't see you Convict boys not writing England " off " and currently I can't see your Colonial Masters actually talking " of " our chances, which, to me seem to revolve around Bob Hope and no hope or more precisely no chance and slim but I think Slim has just left town! To be fair to you lot the writing was on the wall for us to see and indeed we did see it but perhaps not only did we not want to see it we did not want to believe your rag tag of bumbling incompetents had the remotest possibility of becoming a cricket team. I know we have been awful but you lot were not a joke at Lords but pitiful. Your dispensing of flotsam is complete now aside from ditching Twatto. I was looking forward to watching Cummins, Starc and Pattison this winter but the reserves have done the England batting good and hard. England's individual batting weaknesses were exposed but not punished this summer. Either the individuals themselves or the coaches or both must be sacrificed as lessons have not been learned. It is hard to say what England should do for Perth. I would gamble now on Mills and Finn for Swann and Stokes. I haven't got a clue about what to do about the batting. I might be inclined to bring in Bairstow for Prior and Ballance for someone but you can't drop the skipper and I wouldn't drop KP although he should be dropped. So nothing makes sense. I don't know how Finn is going right now but he has the armoury. I would imagine a don't panic Capt Mainwaring scenario from the Flower but I personally would like to go down swinging and with Mills and Finn and we may get a Pyrric victory, which, is better than bending over! |

hmmm looking at the recent results at Perth theres certainly loads of runs about , draws centuries and a big double ton by voges , however bad we are , draw seems far too high

We're sheite and we know we are! disappointing lack of brains and courage by the England set up from top to bottom with only a few exceptions. Not unhappy with Stokes contribution and Finn ought to play but my wild card would be to throw in Tymal Mills as a don't panic don't panic option.....we need to panic. I was for dropping Swann but I guess depends on pitch. Trouble is it is hard to bring in new batters on a WACA pitch so what do England do? As usual the problem is with the batting but the bowling unit is the one that will be changed. Oh and with regard to not panicing I give you this....... ........If you can keep your head while others around you are losing theirs, then I don't think you quite see the seriousness of the situation Gungadin! |

Monty Panesar or Swann? Monty is dire in the field but he has shown more resistance as a tail ender than Swann.
The Aussies have worked Swann out and his confidence looks shot to pieces. I'd stick with Monty. I think we have to go with Finn also. He's expensive but we have to take wickets and he should get something out of the forecast state of the wicket. A fit Bresnan would make a difference but will they risk him breaking down? |

Here are some pretty interesting stats from the WACA, in the Evening Session the total number of wickets that fall in the last 12 days at the WACA have been: 5,2,5,3,4,4,4,3,7,2,2,7. Which works out to be around exactly 4 wickets in the Afternoon Session. With the Fremantle Doctor (its the wind that comes from the Indian ocean late in the day) dare I say it, wickets do fall................

sorry correction, the Last 13 days of the WACA test matches, in the evening session its been 5,2,5,3,4,4,4,3,7,2,2,7,6 . Which is a total of 54 wickets for 13 Evening Session. 54/13=4.15 wickets per Evening Session.

I read this interesting piece from the BBC in an interview with Langer which pretty much is the reason why Wickets fall late on the evening session

While it's better known for the impact it has on bowling conditions, it also affects the way batsmen must approach their innings. "That wind can be a nightmare," admits Langer, now Australia's batting coach. "It's a very strong breeze, so as a batsman you're almost getting pushed backwards at the crease. That's how strong it is. "As a batsman you always want to be coming forward at the bowler. If the quick has got that really strong wind up his backside it gives them such an advantage. The flipside of that is that at the other end you're getting pushed towards the bowler, and they're having to fight their way into that breeze. "Good batting is all about balance. As long as you get your balance right at the crease here you don't need to change your stance or set-up because of the wind. "But you do need to have in your mind that you've got a guy coming in at you fast with the breeze at his back, and it'll be a lot harder for you to be positive with the bat. For example, it'll be a lot harder to hit down the ground because you're hitting into that wind." |
