Unless Aus take a couple of overs here and then go full attack, can't see anything but England coming out to bat about 12 overs into tomorrow.

I guess some burnt fingers on the other game

not sure about following on, I think some of our "batsmen" are following through

England could do worse than calling up that lady in the crowd. Throws better than half their team....

can anyone remember the Twelth Man cd, where Graham Gooch and a barmy army member bat for England because they were struck by injury? Maybe England should just get the barmy army to bat for them. At least Johnson will be hit for a couple of sixes over his head and add some respectability to the score :)

something wrong with the way my browser is formatting numbers
a zero seems to be missing on england's price. |

with you there megsy, I think a lot of the England batsmen are already browning their trousers in anticipation of hostility there.

Not seen this sort of devestating pure pace bowling in a while. He bowls to the left, he bowls to the right, Mitch Johnson bowls alright....

What do people make of the forecast tomorrow? 60% chance of rain on the BOM tomorrow I was going to ask why Australia are still 1.15 and i guess that's my answer. Laughable that you can back England at less than 100. We should be a million!! |

Shouldn't single out players as there are some shockers this series but how the hell can Prior get a game at the moment?
The bloke is sooooo out of form, i think we have to play Bairstow in Perth Bairstow for Prior Keep Monty, drop Swann and bring Bresnan in. This game will be wrapped up tomorrow |
|
By:
people who back draws cos "its a road" must be permenantly broke. off the top of my head in about 10 years i can only remember laying one draw, that wasnt heavily rain affected, where a team actually batted out a draw.

It will not happen but we should call this lot back & send out some of the academy players for at least the final 2 tests - the ashes have already gone and some of the experienced players are shot - I cannot see them coming back stronger from this debacle - at least the young players would get real experience for the future. As others have said there was evidence that many of the current touring party were past their best and this series has merely hastened that demise - sorry but this is simply not good enough. Excepting one or two honourable exceptions you have to ask what they have been practicing; did they not expect genuine fast pace bowling out there - and what purpose did the bonding exercise achieve - I expect a change of manager immediately after the tour (I think he will have had enough) but bearing in mind we were never actually the best team in the World our fall from grace has been somewhat dramatic and where do we go over the next few years - there doesn't appear to be any foundations for the immediate future

no need for wholesale panic and change.
a good side, one that won the ashes, and beat india in india doesn't suddenly become in need of complete replacement. mentally England are in a horrible place right now and it's affecting a number of players more than others: Cook and Prior are clearly hugely doubting themselves at the moment. Root, despite the bluster, is lacking confidence, trying to play to modes, rather than the quality of the next ball he is facing. Pietersen is harder to judge, as spates of recklessness have been a feature of his career. Carberry and Bell look good. The decision to Root at 3 instead of Bell is clearly wrong. Stokes isn't what we needed after Brisbane. The m.o. for bowling for the English side is breaking down, with the Australian's launching a direct counter attack against its foundations: In going after Swann the rate can no longer be controlled, and confusion ensues. The drain on his confidence also serves up poorer bowling and less containment. They are taking the right risks and it's paying off. England might do well to remember that the best way to control the rate of scoring is to take wickets first, something which is more likely to happen through bowling aggressively. Quite why Broad remained so underbowled on day 2 is a mystery. Tremlett instead of Finn in Brisbane was clearly a misjudgement. Perhaps all the analysts in the side might like to get their calculators out and decide is 4-80 off 18 overs is better than 2-100 off 36. Johnson has been superb, and his batsmen have allowed him to bowl with total freedom. Brisbane helped him and Perth will too, and even on the docile wicket in Adelaide, accurate 90mph + bowling to the tail is too good. But it's not too good for the top order as Carberry, Bell and Root showed. Things could have been different had we won the toss and there was pressure on him to contain. A better 2nd dig from England wouldn't surprise me. I think the notion of just having survive suits Cook and Root better than the background concern of having to score. Pietersen may turn up too and not play like a knob. The rain forecast for Monday helps mentally too, although the dimwits apparently never pay any heed to the forecasts (rather they just send Flower out to badger the ground staff when they make the wrong decisions through ignoring them). There's still a good chance to save this, and probably better than the current prices suggest. Australia, are of course, still heavy favourites and Johnson can tear through the tail again, but a bit of steel from the top order and we may have a chance. My side for Perth: Cook Carberry Bell Pietersen Compton Root Buttler Bresnan Broad Finn Anderson along with an attitude in the field about bowling them out rather than keeping the rate down. Of course that's not going to happen. |

Reminds me in some ways of the 1954/55 Ashes in Australia (yes, I am that ancient) Once the England fast bowler Frank Tyson had shortened his run up after his 1/160 at Brisbane he mesmerized the Aussies with sheer 90 mph+ pace. Taking 27 wickets at under 16 apiece in the remaining four tests. He is still around, 83 years old, lives in Australia with his wife Ursula who he met on the 54/55 tour in Melbourne. England went on to take the Ashes in Australia for the first time in over 20 years.

It's not all over guys.
Although now on 2nd pad after hurling the last one at the wall after KP slatest effort Lucky really I suppose if I'd been able to post I would now probably be banned Anyway looking like trott the brave may have made a wise move distancing hisself so fast. Prior has collapsed totally mentally since they have been separated.must be a certainty to chase trotty back home to patch things up. |

I doubt this mottley crew have the capacity to bat for the best part of a day never mind two - no backbone to them I'm afraid - will get worse before it gets better with Perth coming in a few days - might well get turned over within 3 days

Found a bet that surely appeals for tomorrow on the Cricket. On Paddy they have the runs market and offer refunds if your player is out LBW. In any case I have bet on the following markets because it feels like a win win. Warner under 114.5 runs and Smith under 47.5 runs. The 2nd one is slightly more risky as it's possible Clarke could wait until he gets to his 50. But the Warner bet to me looks amazing value as surely they will declare If/When he gets his century and leave England with 170 overs to chase 560. To me both players look great value at 5/6 on to get unders in these run markets.

i greened out earlier laying aus at 1.16 and england at 90.
now aus are 1.19 to lay and england 80 to to lay. weird. tempted to ruin my three nice 435 quid greens and get re-involved on australia now. |

comical why the havent declared already, they not expecting england to do summit are they..is there any betting on englands 2nd inn runs.

Warner gets his hundred and Aus declare.
Market is factoring in some rain (or at least a chance of rain) today, which looks unlikely IMO. 417 chasing 463 is England's highest 4th inn score post WWII, Melbourne 1977. 370 is England's highest 4th inn score in the era of 6 ball overs. I think we can safely say Eng aren't going to win this. And it would take a mini-monsoon to get a draw. |

They'd look a bit stupid if England were 531/9 just after tea on Day 5. I'd certainly be a conservative captain, I don't believe in giving carrots unless the whole series depends on the particular test match. Bat for at least an hour and make England chase 600 in over five sessions. If they can't get them all out in five sessions then they don't deserve to win. |
|
By:
I can't see a draw myself but this Aus price has the potential to panic. England's batting from six onwards looks woeful but all of the top five have the potential to stay at the crease for a long time if they apply themselves on a wicket that may still be a "road" until the end of the match.
