It isn't an argument because it can't and won't happen.  Not in England.  They want the rich grammar school softcock captains that bore the **** out of everybody and had their imagination drained out of them before they were 6.

I think they need to open with Bell if they enforce the follow on.

It's not even an argument, been tried before and failed so you're suggestion is completely flawed.

Jeezus. Only Bell, Carberry and Root have survived longer at the crease than Monty.

BJT if it wasn't you who bagged mitch previously prior to the start of the series I apologise, thought it was you but it may have been AD whoever it was hope they've changed their opinion and admit to what they posted about him. Have to agree with you KP or bell far more suitable for their captain you need someones who's aggressive to be captain.
Poms are craap and we're not a lot better but as we've constantly maintained Poms are massively overrated, lucky to win the last series against us as we imploded in several one hour chunks which costs us several tests but at least we're craap that's on the improve.

Dstyle.I think you are pretty spot on.In regards to Johnson though, I don't think he is any more vulnerable than Anderson/Broad.  When the conditions suit, they take a bag, when they don't, they get smacked around the park.  And they need different conditions, so are hardly "on" at the same time.Broad at Brisbane got wickets, but that was due to the Australians more than him.  He certainly bowled decent, but Aus gave their wickets up more than he took them.Chester-le-street, on the other hand, he took them, and looked like he could have taken plenty more.  That spell of bowling by Broad was by far the best bowled test I have seen recently throughout the 2 series. If he doesn't take a bag though, which is often, he goes for plenty.  He isn't much different in that regard than Johnson.  In fact, even with the batting, neither team would be too concerned with having them as their next batsman in.  Very similar in regards to results, but obviously Johnson is much quicker, and should be much more effective in Aus.Anderson of course however, is much worse than either.  After the first test, what exactly has he done?First test:10/158.Since3/802/1532/1385/1222/140Anderson at Nottingham:7/1191/1579/9811/715/1316/11610/15849/85015% of his wickets have been taken there, and averages about 17 or so there.286/9196He averages 32.15 outside of that ground.Adelaide he has:1/1086/143Australia he has:1/1951/1083/1102/1146/1434/1265/1157/1272/14031/1178That is an average of 38 when bowling in Australia.Compare that with somebody like Harris, who is yet to have a series he averaged over 30, and is currently sitting on an average that puts him in the elite.Talk about Johnson all you like, but realistically, Anderson is the one most likely to fail, and Broad really is less consistent than Johnson.Who for the record has had issues, but since 2012, has taken 6/1646/793/920/609/103Adelaide all up has to his name:6/1595/858/20819 wickets @23.8Perth for the record:5/14411/1595/1599/826/164averaging 16.89....Brisbane:4/969/694/1100/1709/10326/548Averaging 21.08Melbourne:3/462/1636/822/1346/7919@26.53Sydney:2/1814/1185/914/1683/9218@36.11Apart from Sydney, there is nothing to suggest at all that he isn't an exceptional bowler on home soil.  Very few matches where he failed.4 games out of 24 where he didn't have at the very least very good figures.Compare that with somebody like Anderson, who has had 3 out of the last 4 games as extremely poor.I understand that Johnson is seen as a wayward bowler, but he has no reason not to have confidence going into Adelaide.  Coming off a 9 for, averaging under 24 at the ground.Anderson? And not forgetting Clarke averages 110+ at Adelaide coming off 2 double centuries in the last 2 games, Australia have every reason to believe that Adelaide is perfect for them.England of course have a good record, at least Pietersen loves it there, and Cook has a double century, but neither are really considered in any form better than woeful.

That is what I said about Johnson, how he excels in Australia and no reason to think he wouldn't....

If that is hard to read I pointed out that:

Johnson averages:
23.8 at Adelaide
16.89 at Perth
21.08 at Brisbane
26.53 at Melbourne
36.11 at Sydney

So there was no reason to suspect anything but good bowling from him.

KP as captain has to be one of the worst suggestions of all time.

Nobody so self centred and arrogant can get a team to work hard for him. HE can't even apply a work ethic to himself, his performances are nothing short of pathetic. KP believes  his own hype and hyperbole.

At a Lords cricket dinner I attended a few years ago we were sat with Stuart Law (splendid fellow by the way) and my friend asked if it was true Flintoff & KP never got on.

In superb aussie drawl he replied "mate, there's only one person that likes Kevin Pieterson.......and that's Kevin Pieterson."

Says it all for my money.

And yet he was made captain..  lol

As bad as it may be, I find it a much better suggestion than Cook as captain.  Or Root, or Prior, or Carberry, or Broad, or Anderson, or Swann, or Stokes, or Panesar.

While it may be one of the worst suggestions you have ever heard, it can also be described as the top 2 in regards to the England team...

it's a complete non starter charwell mate

there were factions in the dressing room that didn't want to let him back in after Textgate and in fact wanted to inflict serious physical damage on him, took a lot of negotiation to get him back

he's done fcuk all since and should be dropped after the Ashes in a general shake up with new faces coming in in several positions

Oh how things change.  I was getting slaughtered all series for pointing out how overrated the English team was, especially the bowlers, and very much so a few of the batsmen.  Now the Poms calling for a change of captain and several spots up for grabs...

KP is a fantastic talent and has had a great England career, but I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed if he never played again after this series.

Trott gone, Pietersen to go, Prior can't get close to a run, Root way off being a player, Cook shot to siht, Anderson a 1 track bully, Broad not much better, Swann bowls well in the 4th innings to left handers.

Seriously, who is safe in this team?  None should be.

70 overs now.  Can't see them enforce the follow on.

things do change, that is the nature of things, the weaknesses in the England team, batting and captaincy have been evident but they have managed to cope

but now it is all unravelling, time for change it's the way of things

I doubt you have better options.  From what everybody is saying, you have no better option than Cook for captain.  Can't see them having the balls to drop any batsman with a decent long term record.  The management in England not much better than Cook as captain tbh...
