Judo - that's a very easy statement to make, who would you replace him with, he's 29, averages 47, is the leading century maker for England and maybe is out of touch but that's not a bright comment to make unless you have a suggestion for a better alternative - he's been let down by other players in these 2 tests so far.

Cook?  Fcuk no.  He is not a captain that you want.  He is negative and it seeps through the team.

Keven Pietersen would be my captain.  Or Bell.  Both know what it takes to win a game, and are prepared to take it on to get there.  Cook?  Loses the toss and plays for a draw.  Even when he wins the toss he plays for a draw and waits for the opposition captain to dangle a carrot.

it's the way things were always done

you can't have an embarrassing team ethic like this and expect to keep the captaincy

his batting average has nothing to do with it, you have to lead and extract the best from the players

I don't know who would replace him but many captains have been sacked in such circumstances in the past

He would allow the team to attack other teams, and demand they did.  That is what is needed in a team.

Pietersen is probably the very antithesis of captain material.

Not on the back of 1 series they aren't when they have a winning record, if they were habitual losers then yes, but under him they haven't been

I disagree West Coast they would far few down now if they hadn't played attacking shots

KP or Bell.  Only 2 options in the England team for captain.

Could see Cooks head drop when he lost the toss ffs.

KP is not a captain, arrogant, divisive c0ck - he should take a leaf out of Bell's book here and bat with determination and not arrogance in the 2nd inning. Bell looks like he's facing a different attack, as should KP if he applied himself properly.

Irresponsible of him not to resign from the role really.

if they enforce the follow on, they could win in 4 days and that's more rest in itself. so i would enforce it. they shouldn't be that tired to be honest. every aussie player would prob have MORE energy right now than before play.

Each to their own.  I think KPs average would rise at least 5 runs as captain.  Think it would be perfect for him, and he would be a perfect captain for their team.

Will never happen obviously, so will end it here.

BJT all you need to do is look at history to see why the discussion ends.

Totally agree. KP is lucky to be in the team at all.

Problem is if they come out and bat reasonably, Aus are 60+ overs into bowling now.  Tired bowlers can easily leak runs, and all of a sudden you are fielding for 150 overs plus the 60 already done.  That creates havoc for batsmen.  England 2 days in the field, and bowled out for probably sub 150.  Although different proposition, but I don't for a second think they are a 150 run per innings team.

he's already been tried as captain and failed because he is not suited

someone else will be required and KP is at the end of his career having played 100+ tests

bjt. true they are 60 overs in, but those who play sports know that when you are thrashing an opponent you hate, you dont get tired. you somehow find endless reserves.

They have pretty much declared Root the next captain, so really only need a few years.  100 tests?  Plenty of time left.  Who is going to remove him from the team when is in better form than most of the team?

England may not like him not being a puppet, but that doesn't mean he is a bad captain.  Thrived with the bat from what I recall...

With this score, they really have to.  And with the Perth test a few days after, the chance to wrap this up tomorrow will be too enticing.

Of course they will.

can't be asked arguing with you, KP will never be entertained as captain and will be off to the IPL after the World cup
