it really should be 300's
By:
need trott to play a long innings
By:
300s sounds about right yes.
By:
i agree its unlikely - just think your stats are misleading.
The relevent stat would be how many times a team batting second had the chance to score so many runs to win a test with roughly the same ammount of overs left. Then you would need to factor in how this pitch is playing and the size of the pitch amongst other things. |
By:
for a start, most teams needing that much to win in a 4th innings will be demonstrably inferior to the other team. england aren't (despite the evidence of this match). most of those 2083 games will also have been on much worse 4th innings tracks too.
I agree the price was too short though. |
By:
England have been inferior in almost every session this series. Market has priced them on reputation, not current form after about six months away from home.
By:
having said all that the stats are secondary to the mindset of how england go about the chase.
By:
dunno about "almost every session".
By:
They had to be somewhat short for this Test surely, they would have been a very short price to win the second without interruptions
By:
Do agree that England were too short this time though, the only way they could possibly chase it was to be five down in a hurry and Bell/Prior/Broad make at least 300 between them. Not exactly a 25s shot!

By:
first test the second innings was fine, didn't look great bowling but actually I'd say that was par given the pitch. that was just a bit masked by the terrible first innings.
By:
Not much upside to backing a team at 25/1 to do something very unlikely when you could be on a loser before a ball in bowled if england have already decided to not even go for the chase.
By:
england only have one thing in mind
By:
anyone convinced by cook so far?
By:
465 off 134, thats a req run rate around 3.47 an over........
By:
doesnt sound much west coast but in a test its huge
By:
Until ten or so years ago, 3.47 an over in a Test would have been a rarity.
By:
exactly .......
By:
just to elaborate...over 60-90 overs its manageable but over 140 overs chasing a mammoth score...forget about it
By:
for anyone interested in Sheffield Shield Final, Tasmania 419 and 32/5 V Queensland 225
By:
good fightback for Queensland given themselves a chance of winning the final after it looked like no hope before the start of todays play. Cricket is a funny game
By:
No dodgy start from cook. Hope he settles down though
By:
It's not something England can consider getting - not at this stage anyway. Maybe if they're doing alright by mid-afternoon tomorrow, but before then it's above saving the match and preserving their number two Test status.
By:
taz throwing it away if they arent carefull
By:
well England's current rate at the moment is 2.50 runs per over.(they have been pretty defensive from the get go) If they bat 134 overs in my opinion, England win this...........
By:
but thats alot of overs ........batting 2nd
By:
nah west coast because along the way wickets will fall and we could be into the tail by the business end
By:
im not going out of my way to disagree with you i just feel eng havent an earthly
By:
Cant believe people think england can win this. Not a chance im afraid
By:
i cant remember the last time England bat 143 overs in a 2nd innings
By:
England back into 26!
By:
Evening all
I'm all green here and relaxed but feel I am not going to be able resist backing NZ at 1.63 plus for much longer its just stupid They were 1.57 at the start of play, are they in a worse situation now? |
By:
be interesting to see what the market makes of this if england get to 150/1...
By:
NZ 1.62 now, but feel if that 2nd wicket comes , they could crash down to sub 1.40's again........
By:
the way eng win this is if they are 360/4 after 120 overs(rr 3) then prior has abit of a smash 121 of 23 overs
By:
England 20 ffs
By:
By:
True and just checked weather forecast not a cloud in the sky tomorrow
By:
This is a long time to field as well as bat. NZ bowlers will get tired too.
