depends on KP - If I were Cook, had seen the weather forecast I'd be saying to him "get your eye in then attack!"

Wouldn't assume this Eng attack could bowl out NZ once, never mind twice, after events in Dunedin.

Bell to get a ton today?  Bairstow must be feeling pretty peeved.  Is there a case for dropping bell for bairstow for the ashes?

What is the point of ian bell?  How often has he got a ton from 30/3 or 60/4 or 100/5?

Lies damned lies and statistics Nigel.

He is a good player, lovely to watch and I love watching him and KP but how many test matches has he won?  Compare that with KP.  Bowlers might be the ones that win matches but great innings in  tough match situations are in short supply from Bell

How does an average over no fewer than 85 test matches lie??  The point is it's taken over time and will include wins and losses.

By:

When: 14 Mar 13 23:11
draw price will drop 10 points or so shortly with no wicket and no change in tempo. going at 2 an over.. not what most england backers had in the script!

Re Bell,

Like you say Nigel he has a good overall record.  One century against Australia, 3 against Bangla.  I don't think he has made his hundreds when the chips were down.  That's all unlike all the other front line batsmen.

      Batting[37]     Bowling[38]
Opposition     Matches     Runs     Average     High Score     100 / 50     Runs     Wickets     Average     Best
Australia     18     971     32.36     115     1/11     32     0     –     –
Bangladesh     6     633     158.25     162*     3/2     –     –     –     –
India     12     874     41.61     235     2/3     2     0     –     –
New Zealand     6     295     36.87     110     1/1     –     –     –     –
Pakistan     10     688     68.80     119     4/2     42     1     42.00     1/33
South Africa     8     645     46.07     199     2/2     –     –     –     –
Sri Lanka     6     592     84.57     119*     2/5     –     –     –     –
West Indies     6     329     41.12     109*     1/2     –     –     –     –

117/3 he came in v saffers.  Hardly sod all.  And kp got lots with him.  Even if i give you that one, and the ton in safrica a few years back and that one v india batting at three in 2011, it is only three in 9 years.

i do enjoy a cricket stat. can read into them whatever you please.

kp for example - 121 odi inns. 9 centuries.
3 of those in the space of 9 days vs saffers in 2005 -
2 in 3 weeks vs oz and windies in 2007,
2 in 2008
and 2 in 4 days in 2012.

good or bad record?

They won't get any play on day 5 and time will be lost on day 4 IF this plays out.
