If it hasn't stopped raining by late afternoon, it will be abandoned for the day.
By:
back to the 1 innings, odi game? the market would be voided if this happens yes?
By:
why would it be voided?
By:
it wouldnt be an ODI either. just a one innings match.
By:
Any forfeit if it does happen, wont be made today imo.
By:
because its an unoffical game..thats not test rules...
By:
why would it be an unofficial game?
By:
because the test match would be abandoned, then captain would agree to 50 overs /100 overs etc..
By:
forget talk about one innings match, ain't happening
By:
it would be an official test match if theres forfeiting involved
By:
you have declarations in test cricket max.
Both teams can declare their 1st inns for zero. no probs. still v unlikely but result would count |
By:
oh ok..
By:
i personally think a forfeit is possible but would need another day to be rained off first
the ECB need a reason for people to come through the gates on Sunday and Monday. |
By:
No chance of a forfeit - especially not when the Cronje saga has been in the news.
By:
i don't see how that has any relevance to anything that is happening here.
By:
Like the argument that ECB want to make game more interesting but ultimately it's down to the captains and if CP is out ironically it might be Strauss that calls for it and Sammy that turns it down! LOL
By:
me neither. its not match fixing ffs! Warks have a new stand to pay for and low ticket sales and refunds are no good.
By:
it will be down to the ECB and the WICB
the captains will do what they are told to do. |
By:
hmm.. not quite as simple as that.
By:
wouldnt be in englands interest to make it 1 innings game
brings windies back into it too much game could be decided on toss in favourable conditions first up Cant see it happening |
By:
question posed on Cricinfo and response :
"In response to Chris: I am reminded of the Edgbaston test almost exactly 20 years ago with Pakistan (1992). The first day was rained off, and there was a big scandal when only 2 balls were possible on the second day since under the then conditions those 2 balls meant that authorities didn't have to refund spectators' entry fees. Two and a half days' play were then possible: although there was little prospect of a result, it was long enough for Alec Stewart to get his highest test score, and Mark Ramprakash to get out for a duck." |
By:
game very unlikely to be deceided on a toss SY. eng still massive favs batting 1st or 2nd in these conditions.
By:
Which agrees with Steptoes point - I also can't see it happening but wouldn't want to be red on England just in case.
By:
i cant see it happening either because the forecast is ok for tomorrow
i can only see it happening if they get another day rained off which looking at the forecast is unlikely 3 days is still enough for a result in overcast conditions in england |
By:
agreed. Three days and it might be cancelled.
By:
id still make england favs yep, point is lix that windies have far more chance of winning a 1 innings shoot out
would suit them far more than england |
By:
Nothing will be cancelled
By:
at 2-0 up in the series though and a big chance of losing a massive amount of money i don't think the cricketers will be making that decision step
By:
whats Mikey on about? of course you can play Dwayne Bravo and Sammy together. Bravo far better batsman than any of windies top 3 easily.
By:
Play will start sometime tomorrow and will begin as a normal, albeit truncated test match. The only prospect of a result, imo, is an early clatter of wickets in what would effectively be a three day game. Even this assumes there would be no more major interruptions in days 3-5.
By:
1.15 - ready to close out here and hope for better weather - that didn't take long did it! ;-) the move from 1.38 y'day to 1.15 is incredible really when you consider forecast has actually slightly improved for remaining days - must indicate to me that today's washout wasn't priced in even though I called it two days ago!
By:
WI 25/5 would be funny
By:
will be 1.1 buy days end...
By:
and quite possible I reckon.
By:
Dwayne Bravo ave 31 in tests
Barath ave 22 ![]() Windies obvs better with Barath, Powell, Edwards tho eh Mikey .. ![]() |
By:
with the wicket though who knows.
By:
Don't understand this stuff about forcing a result to boost ticket sales. The state of the game will make little impact on ticket sales at this stage. The final day at Lords in a live competitive test had only a few thousand turning up.
By:
berto they dont give a crap about a result... they NEED play..
By:
Agree with that berto - game will be played as normal - it's a test match not an old 3day cc game.
By:
Exactly kingmax, the administrators only need play to happen, the state of the match makes little difference which is why I don't think there will any pressure from the board's to contrive a result to boost ticket sales.
