yeh around 280 all out today be decent effort by england
By:
will be interesting to see how jaya goes about things now, surely can't have too much faith in what's left to hang around

happy with my lunch time prediction of 250-270/8 end of play but would like to think England can finish them before the end now or at least get 1 more for hopefully not too many runs.
did lanka under 295 at evens, pretty confident now though the Lanka tail enders do seem to pull off the odd decent effort. |

oh monty
huge diff between 260 and 320 here could be crucial drop |

You just can't carry a passenger like Panesar. One skill is not enough.
By:
Swann is the passenger imo

jesus christ panesar, potentially cost england 50 runs there
By:
Panesar's figure currently minus two for 41.
I saw him getting tonked by Buttler at Taunton in the County Ch'ship last summer, but the abiding memory was a man the Sussex captain simply could not hide in the field. It frankly amazed me when this England team gave him another chance. Hadn't anyone been watching his fielding in the Ch'ship last year? |
By:
no excuse for the last one there
was straight up |
By:
Swann will never be a passenger, because he has more than one skill. When he's not taking wickets he's taking catches in the slips or scoring runs.
When Panesar's not taking wickets, like today, he's dropping catches and is statistically one of the worst No. 11s in the history of Test cricket. |

It's not his bowling that's the problem (and swann is no passenger there anyway) it's the fact that he can't field, not even simple stuff that you'd think someone professionally trained could manage and he can't hold a bat. Can't knock how he bowled in UAE but to not be able to field is a pretty effort really! |
By:
he's gotta work harder at it, needs to do extra sprints after practice, needs to practice dives and stops and catching. never gonna be jonty rhodes but can certainly improve.
By:
More like Gary Rhodes, really does need to sort himself out and fall on his sword.
By:
also think mugs with the bat like chris martin and monty can at least try a bit harder to contribute. can at least learn to not play away from the body and keep things in reasonabe positions. can't be that bloody hard when you have a team full of batters to watch and who can give you advice and professional coaches willing to spend one-on-one time with you

agree Rolo.
These Sri Lankan tail enders for example aren't great but they've quite often done a job of at least holding off a few balls or grabbing a single to get their main batsman back on strike. When your no.11 can't even be relied on to see off a couple of balls it's pretty poor. |
By:
not such what the hand clap was all about whilst waiting for ball to come down
By:
say what you will about monty, but this has been different class from jaya. The counter attack/farming of the strike been of the very highest quality.
By:
yep, he's sure cost me plenty of money!
Monty or Jaya take your pick! Unleass they can get the next 2 wickets without conceding any runs that is |
By:
playing cricket is monty's full time job and there's no excuse for not being able to field. if you possess the coordination to bowl international level spin, you possess the coordination to field to a satisfactory level.
would love to know whether fletcher's problem with him wasn't his fielding ability rather his appetite to improve it. |
By:
absolutely p1ss poor from Monty
thats why they were reluctant to play him he could have cost england the match today |
By:
Great stuff from Mahela, but SL have been let off the hook rather.
Market is going to be move quickly when England to bat - the old adage you can't be sure about a track until both sides have used it looks massive here. At the beginning of the day the market wanted loads of SL runs - instead England got 8 wickets after losing the toss, yet are still dogs in the market. |
By:
Agree with the comments re: monty. The moan about Patel not being fit enough but you have a cricketer in the team who only has one skill. In a choice between Swann and monty its not even an option. You have a better bowler who fields well and adds between 40-50 runs to the total per match against someone who adds 5-10 and probably gives the opposition 15-20 extra runs in fielding errors.
By:
Not much upside backing this england price atm
the market is wrong imo but the draw price is likely to go below evens if england bat well. think laying SL seems the way to go for now |
By:
I just logged on expecting to be able to lay off my England back for a profit, only to find England have drifted.
That was supposedly a *bad* day for England? A bad last session, sure, some terrible fielding indeeed, but a bad day? |
By:
i backed england before the start and wouldve happily taken sri lanka 300 all out and can't believe they arent favs here . eng will get 400+ on this track np
By:
I'm kinda worried that Monty has let my Sri Lanka lay slip through his fingers. Disappointing end to at one point looked a very promising day.
By:
I think 320+ say for sri lanka is decent
means england need to make 360-370+ to wipe out disadvantage of batting last Now pitch did look ok but thats still not going to be straightforward |
By:
big arbs available on the draw, price on BF looks too short to me.
By:
could get parity soon here, 3.0 all results.
By:
woeful stuff from trott
By:
If England get knocked over by this attack on this pitch they have no right to call themselves number 1's
By:
3 dredful dismissals
By:
Some fresh blood required here and I don't mean bopara!!
By:
Woeful stuff from England this morning, cook dissmisal the least worrying, what Trott and strauss were doing after looking good playing normal shots is beyond me. Awful decision making from Test match batsman. Did none of them watch Mahela bat yesterday.
This attack is really not that special, there is nothing in the pitch, if they don't get a half decent 1st innings lead here, this will be the worse performance of the lot. |

after pakistan debacle, we will learn
![]() ![]() , pathetic |

anyone surprised, except for the Sky Sports experts ?

i cannot believe how bad they are against spin
this isn't even decent spin they just dont have a clue |
