That's true. Pardon me.

We can't allow mob rule. The statue must be reinstated and the perpetrators have their day in court. If this government won't do it we might elect someone who will next time.
|
|
By:
Sounds like a job for someone who used to be a prosecutor.
|
|
By:
Might be a job for someone like Orban, edy.
|
|
By:
Could be Edy but not one who got so many things wrong.

This could end up like the troubles in NI two bitterly devided sides people on both sides have lost all respect for the establishment once it starts it will take some stopping stap yourself in for the next 30 plus years

You could be right about that, macarony. But if fear that it could all be one way

Why does he charge bame more for insurance?

what shocked me that this statue was there in the first place , a bit divisive to say the least ...and has been there for 125 years ...if it created bad feeling then it's best rid .
It fell pretty easily with just a few ropes ... should have been bolted in properly imo most of the protesters were actually white ...so maybe rented in ? Bristol a left m/cultural city these days though ,but certainly wasn't like that in the 1960s ,esp with the buses discrimination . there was also some race riots there in 1980 |

Jane Secker just interviewed the Chief Constable, Andy Marsh, on Sky.
He described her questions as 'ridiculous'. In fact they were spot on. Reading between the lines he gave up the streets to anarchy because he was too scared to do anything. What does say to the protesters and the law abiding public in general? It is actually 'ridiculous' that he could think he could support such dereliction of duty and expect to keep his job. |

By:
If you are black why did you move to a place that had these statues in the first place....and then complain
|
|
By:
I suppose you don't have to live in the city to find something offensive .... but i take what you mean about living in a city that offends you .
didn't a lot of blacks live in Bristol way back( the docks) ?...a bit like Cardiff ...sure there must be a Bristolian on here . on a different note ,I've been to Bristol around 6 times and never found the city centre ![]() |
|
By:
Mayor of Bristol just on the BBC being asked why he did not remove the statue if it was that offensive ,he has been Mayor since 2016.
The answer was more or less "I've been busy" ![]() |

Have a read of the actual efforts to make changes to the wording of the plaque.

He run the RAC for 1 year.
Don't see people asking the royal family to be shamed in this way even though the Duke of York (later James II) run it for years with DY being branded on slaves' chests. That aside just because those who wanted it changed could not agree on the words it does not justify smashing a Grade 2 listed monument. If we allow this more will follow. |
|
By:
All very good but if its talked about for years and nothing is done it just fuels the fire of hate until an event like yesterday and the mob takes over....

Much of Bristol has benefitted from Colston’s philanthropy. The statue was erected because of that.
Bone heads think it was erected in celebration of his slave trading. |

Queen Elizabeth I's monopoly on the slave trade financed Elizabethan England. Many statues of her. Are they safe along with all the buildings built in that era like Lambeth Palace and the Inns of Court?
|
|
By:
Monopoly?
Methinks you overstate british naval power at the time. She was running pirates to singe the King of Spains beard |
|
By:
The establishment both left and right is full of decendents of those who profited from the slave trade and the empire, maybe time they repaid something back after all they would not be in the position they are in today without the family money the education the property the business their career
