Sophy Ridge on Sunday
@RidgeOnSunday

On tomorrow’s show @grantshapps will be responding to the Dominic Cummings story on behalf of the government.

He may understandably not know all of the details we ask for. So we’re taking the unusual step of flagging in advance some of the questions
Sophy Ridge will ask

When did Mr Cummings first display symptoms?
On what date did he travel to Durham?
Did he stop on the journey? If so, did he comply with the 2m rule at all times?
When was the Prime Minister made aware that he had made this journey?

Did Mr Cummings remain in self-isolation for the duration of his time in Durham?
Did he only make one trip, or multiple?

We hope that this will give Mr Shapps time to find out the answers if he does not know them.

Cummings is enemy #1 so they will try everything they can think of to make this stick. Cummings will only be in trouble if Boris is under pressure himself from other Tory MPs, which seems incredibly unlikely.

It really is so much easier when you just tell the truth from the beggining.

Not only has he made a fool of himself and those that troll for him but some serious effort gone into conning ministers and mps to lie for him.

Some are reported to be unhappy at the situation.

Not that he may have killed folk by spreading virus but that he's made them look foolish...

The difference being of course that the lady in question was chopped the day the story broke.

Sturgeon and the SNP originally defended her and wanted her to carry on. So calling for Cummings to go when he was within the guidelines and was related to the care of a toddler rather than a beach holiday is the height of hypocrisy. No surprise of course.

Fergie was shagging a married woman, Calderwood was day tripping with her family, Cummings was arranging the best care of his toddler when he was preparing for self isolating. Not difficult to comprehend.

I wonder how the cabinet is feeling tonight, having been told to come out defending Cummings all day only to realise he knew there was more wrongdoing to come out. It’s as if being sycophantic careerists ultimately ends in you looking a fool.

So those parents with symptoms who didn't travel 260 miles to seek out childcare are bad parents ?

I do not recall them explaining a scenario where you could travel over 200 miles with the virus and this be ok.

I somehow doubt if the police had stopped you or I on the motorway , and we told them we had the virus but were travelling this distance for child care needs ...... they would have said ' no problem sir , carry on have a nice journey'

Who doesn't seek refuge with their parents at a time of crisis, even older people. He just did what made most sense I'm assuming rather than getting the slide rule out to check it suited every word of the guidelines. He didn't go there for fun did he.

Journalist Mary Wakefield revealed that Mr Cummings, 48, spent 10 days bedridden with the disease after coming home to nurse her through a milder case.

Writing in the Spectator she spoke of how her 'extremely kind' husband struggled to breathe while at home in London with her and their four-year-old son Alex.

It came as Mr Cummings also gave his own short account of their time together in isolation, branding it 'sticky' - but in reference to the London home being 'covered in a layer of spilt Ribena, honey, peanut butter and playschool glue'.

Mr Cummings spend 14 days off work, twice the usual period of quarantine, sparking questions about his health. But No 10 throughout  insisted he was 'in contact' with staff in Downing Street.

Does anybody have the original Spectator article?
