People criticising the current lockdown on the basis of economic damage are the same people who think we should release it and get people back to work. Releasing it early would only cause more spread and death and result in an even longer lockdown, causing even more economic damage.
If you are unhappy about the lockdown, blame the government for not closing airports, for encouraging the spread and for not locking down earlier. The only way a lockdown was avoidable was if you'd done all that and got on top of it early and took it seriously from day 1 like in countries like Korea and Japan, who haven't had a lockdown (but Japan is kicking off again now and might need one soon). Once you are over the peak trajectory you will be in more or less the same position as you were at the start except they will take it seriously from day 1 thereafter. Oh but look at Sweden - Sweden is a special case naturally set up to do what they did, with social distancing in place more or less 100% of the time. The spread couldn't get out of hand there to the same extent as other countries. No other country could do what they've done, except some of the other Nordics perhaps, without ending up in the same position as the rest of Europe. |

Pecker no way calling off a match and allowing 5,000 people from the European epicentre to come over here for no good reason after your first case from North Italy is beyond criticism. Bollócks it's shameful, it's not even close. A primary school kid could tell you that wouldn't be smart.

you have to remember Cheltenham was going ahead, everything was, it was not possible at that stage to close borders, turn planes around..
Don't get me wrong, i see your point and i did not want them coming, but to say for a few quid of tourism money, thats plain wrong and shameful imo..ill leave it at that |

Schools/colleges closed 12th March,UK 20th March with some being left open for key workers.
They were fairly on the ball. Honest and transparent as well with the daily briefings, could have done better but overall i'd be v slow to knock them. |

Fair enough about the tourism bit. You are right. I didn't realise they asked them not to travel. But in doing that they recognised that it was a problem and didn't do enough imo. You are allowed to restrict the freedom of movement between EU states on public health grounds.
I think they've done a good job since then alright and a British person would learn more about the whole thing from watching the Irish press conferences instead of their own. |
