Pay lower tax
Pay almost zilch in national insurance
Expect unlimited access to the NHS
Always looking at tax dodging avoidance
Pretend to hire family members

Now they want paying out. Jeez

Will be interesting to see what they get. If they pay little tax and NI, then their 'net-relevant' return will be low... and so will their handout.

I'm not sure that anyone who has obviously never been self employed is informed enough to comment tbf.

A great nephew of mine makes nearly £100k per year and pays a massive whack of tax as self employed IT contractor, cant paint them all in a negative light.

yeh but as the op says there are a lot of benefits to being self employed, as long as you aren't fùcking clueless.
You can fiddle loads of expenses through the books, fiddle tax, fiddle vat, cash jobs etc etc
The IR haven't got the resources either to catch people out

You have to feel for anyone who declared earnings of £15k to the taxman - it's very confusing when others tell you to take an additional £xxk in a tax-efficient vehicle like a dividend - but obviously, because of that, the 2019 self-employed tax-returns are seriously misleading. These are special times and, as a one-off, all self-employed should be allowed (without prejudice) to disclose their true historical earnings so that Govt can keep them in the style to which they are accustomed.

Entrepeneurs are the backbone of this great country.

This isn't as rosy as some may think... as UB said about those declaring low incomes; they are only going to get 80% of that. I'm not sure what the dates are, but if it includes this current year, that ends next week, some will bump up their incomes to improve the average, but if they do that, they are going to be hit with tax on it regardless, not forgetting they are also exposing their previous years as potential lies (never) and this could flag up later. Plus the fact whatever they are given will be taxed too.

They are being offered similar help to anyone else who works, htf that can be seen as unfair is beyond me, some bitter people about.

I haven't live in the UK for 12 years, I was a chartered accountant before I left
You have to work for somebody originally to learn your trade and get qualified

I never said it was easy working for yourself, just that there are a lot of benefits.
More stress especially if you are a sole trader as you are personally liable if things go belly up.

fair play to him, when I was an accountant you get a decent amount of people who play it straight but a shìt load of sole traders, directors in ltd companies are looking at angles to fiddle

just because you are self employed does not mean you earn big money.

no work ,no pay.

work outside with this wet climate, lucky to do 6 months.

no sick.

no payed holidays.

bad payers.

not so rosy as people think and i have been on both sides of the fence, wish i had stayed employed by a company.

Because they don't have the Hyena personality of the self employed?
Man have you ever heard a conversation between two self employed people? It's all about if you do this if you do that to avoid paying tax. The self employed have held a dagger to the throat of this nation. Vile individuals.

Going to have visa and insurance issues soon so I need to get the fùck out of dodge in the next month or so!

I turn over less than 85k so don’t charge vat. That means I can’t recoup the vat on my outgoings. The vat I pay is in addition to tax an ni.

The vat businesses like mine contribute is a large outgoing. Add in the work we give to our suppliers.. countless businesses rely on the self employed to buy their products.
