Yet to hear anyone join the dots between climate change and the virus.
Greta, Harry, Sir Dave, BBC et al been telling us millions will die due to carbon emissions. The virus is slowing production, massively reducing trade and travel. Carbon emissions dropping every day. So lives will be saved? Will it be a net gain? |

Flu deaths much lower this winter due to mild weather. The success or otherwise of the flu jab can also lead to variations in flu deaths numbers. So far 4000 people have gone to hospital with flu since October. 70 dead. - Public Health England.
2014/15 28000 deaths Last year 1700. I didn’t notice panic in 2014.. Let’s hope Coronavirus doesn’t kill 1700 this year. If it does there will be total meltdown. Confusing eh? |

First item on the news - the virus.
You'd think people were dying in the streets from Bubonic plague instead of an estimated 10,000 people with the sniffles or worse. Ten dead. No one wants a dose of the flu, but there's no need to be running scared. |

What is going on seriously? what is their goal? Their 'goal' is social control . Under normal circumstances the population will resist any form of State control and any threat to their right to freedom of movement and freedom to gather peacefully (either to protest or for leisure activities such as sports events etc.) . But first of all the government need to rule by fear and this is done by stealth . If the people can be convinced that they are in imminent danger (also their families and in particular the elderly) they will be more inclined to accept restrictions imposed by the State . This will be done gradually until such time that the State has gained total control over the people . The only thing that will thwart their attempts is if a sufficient percentage of people start to question government propaganda fed to the masses through the media . If this forum , and in particular threads such as this , are any guide the number of gullible , sheep-like citizens , are in the minority . However it may be a sufficiently large minority to enable the State to achieve its aim ! |

saying maybe 6 kids in street, park, garden playing is the same risk as 300/500 crammed in a school catching, spreading virus and them needing 60 million to catch it in uk to implement their herd immunity plan,is surely making these 2 experts sound as though their losing the plot, lets hope not

What would have been done with an outbreak like this say 50 years ago? Nothing.
It would have run its course, many would get it and recover, and some would die. We'd just carry on. The sooner you get the sooner you get over it. If you're so weak that it polishes you off, how long had you got left anyway? |
|
By:
50 years ago we didn't have the mass trafficking of humanity back and forth to the Far East etc. Doubt if we would have heard a dicky for the first 6 months , especially given China's historic insular mentality .
|
|
By:
50 years ago millions of people wernt mortgaged to the hilt, wernt used to both parents working.could let 5 yr olds out alone, etc,etc
|
|
By:
If the virus were allowed to run its course, how many deaths would there be from it - tops?
Were talking about the old and the sick, so how many people are we keeping alive if any, by taking precautions to check the spread? Most people who get the virus will not go on record, so in information terms, we're at the mercy of the authorities. And we certainly can't trust their massaged figures. |
|
By:
Dunno Dr C. Still no mention of China’s containment. Where has the virus gone in Wuhan?
Meanwhile Greta and her fans told us millions will die if we don’t stop flying etc. So with less flights, lower production, lives will be saved. Is their a net gain to this virus? |
|
By:
I think a pause in flying will be a drop in the ocean anyway Inera.
It seems to me that our lot are allowing the virus to get widespread and established before they impose restrictions. Where has the virus gone in Wuhan? Yes, I there's more to this than meets the eye. |

Article back in the year 2000
What is flu? Influenza is defined by the Gray Laboratory's medical dictionary as "an acute viral infection involving the respiratory tract. It is marked by inflammation of the nasal mucosa, the pharynx and conjunctiva and by headache and severe, often generalised myalgia. Fever, chills and prostration are common." The incubation period is one to three days and the disease ordinarily lasts for three to ten days. What are the symptoms? Self-diagnosis of flu is difficult as its classic symptoms, a fever, a sore throat, a headache and aching joints, are often confused with a common cold. You can test whether you have the flu on the NHS Direct website. Flu differs from a common cold in the way that its viral strains rapidly appear and affect large numbers of people. Flu usually involves these initial symptoms, along with a worsening of the sore throat and muscle pains. How does it spread? Flu viruses enter the body through the eyes, nose or mouth. Flu is usually spread from person to person via airborne droplets or respiratory fluids, especially coughing and sneezing. Is it fatal? Yes. Every year flu kills thousands, particularly the elderly. Healthy people tend not to die from flu, although they can if complications develop, such as pneumonia or blood poisoning. What I do? If you are suffering from flu symptoms, you should stay at home, keep warm (but not over-warm), take basic painkillers such as Paracetamol to relieve your temperature, and drink plenty of water or other fluid to prevent becoming dehydrated. Antibiotics are not effective against the flu. If your illness lasts longer than the usual three to ten days, you should see your doctor. You should also get medical advice if you are at risk of developing complications. These tend to emerge if you are old, infirm, suffer from a chronic illness or respiratory disease, or have a reduced immunity, from HIV or undergoing chemotherapy for instance. If you haven't suffered from the virus this year and are at risk from developing severe flu, you can get a vaccination, which provides providing immunity to flu infection. 9m people in Britain have been vaccinated this winter. You need the injection every year: the vaccine is updated annually because of flu's constant mutation into different viral forms. What is the cure? Flu can be prevented by vaccination, but there is no cure. Flu is categorised into types A, B and C. Every year or so there are minor "drifts" in the viral strains of flu. These changes are enough to make those who suffered from - and became immune to - the previous strain susceptible to the new one. This occurs because each flu strain has different surface antigens - which are molecules of two proteins. A person's immune system produce antibodies to fight the invading virus. These are developed specifically to attack each antigen, so when a new flu strain emerges it can circumvent the existing armoury in the body's immune system. Large changes in the makeup of flu type A occur every decade or so. These are called "antigenic shifts" and tend to result in large epidemics. Is this bout of flu an epidemic? An epidemic is defined by the online medical dictionary as "occurring suddenly in numbers clearly in excess of normal expectancy, said especially of infectious diseases but applied also to any disease, injury or other health related event occurring in such outbreaks." The government says flu reaches epidemic proportions when 400 people per 100,000 are suffering from the virus. ---- we havent reached that level yet --- Last week, statistics gathered from doctors across the country showed that 144 people per 100,000 had the flu. The government's chief medical officer professor Liam Donaldson has called the current outbreak the first "serious epidemic" for 10 years. He says the figures are an underestimate because thousands are bypassing their doctors and going to the pharmacist or using the government's new NHS Direct service. The medical profession disagree. The British Medical Association chairman Dr Ian Bogle has denied the existence of an epidemic. Dr Douglas Fleming, the director of the Birmingham research unit which calculates the official flu figures, says that flu rates are actually "very similar to the figures from last year which were not epidemic". This year's outbreak falls well short of previous epidemics. In the last official epidemic during the winter of 1989-90, 600 people per 1,000 fell ill and 26,000 people died ----- They didnt stop liverpool winning the league back then ---- |

So let's see what's happened in the 7 days since I started the thread.
From a very casual attitude regarding the virus, the bug has been allowed to spread. Until now very severe measures are being taken which they tell us is an attempt to stop its spreading further. Needless to say the economy is already staggering from the measures, with food shortages a reality following the panic created by the media. All the wrong moves to guarantee the virus won't be contained, and now they're busy wrecking the economy, businesses, and kids education, in order to achieve the exact opposite of their original stance, which won't stop the virus anyway. So why are they doing all this? Incompetence, What! After the way Johnson brilliantly worked his way into power won the GE and put Brexit to bed. No way are they incompetent, so what's going on? |
|
By:
It's been 8 days since I started the thread not 7.
In that time the government have gone from one extreme to the other. |
|
By:
I think they are incompetent.
The other alternative is they are bent. It would appear they have not done what was required to stop the virus getting here in such numbers in the first place. Who have they protected? Their friends and their friends, diners and themselves Airlines, usually big supporters of the Conservatives Insurance Companies, Members of Lloyd’s? Why could you fly to a Rome as recently as Friday? Why were you “ advised “ not to travel or go to pubs rather than prohibited? |
|
By:
The other big thing is they have been exposed over the NHS and when people finally realise their may be a reckoning.
Why have they not procured sanitizer or set up wash stations on mass transit sites? What have they done to help people? They have lost the plot! |
|
By:
The government has protected no one, businesses are all in trouble.
Their inaction at the beginning has led to those companies especially airlines being on the edge of bankruptcy. How can that be viewed as looking after their friends? |
