Yes it probably is an over reaction, but in light of the politically correct climate in which we live, then we should push for nothing less than her sacking and made unemployable, otherwise what one might loosely term 'the left' will never see the cost or damage they have done to free speech.
The truth is equality does demand Jo Brand is humiliated for her comments because if the shoe was on the other foot she would be screaming the loudest for retribution. If you live by the sword you die by the sword! |
|
By:
The left would be so owned if you got Jo Brand fired btw.
Antifa had been thinking of an acid attack but was waiting for Comrade Brand to give the order |
|
By:
Danny Baker must be scratching his head. Posting an image that can be misintepreted on his private social account leads to getting fired, openly joking about a violent attack on BBC airtime doesn't.
It's almost as if the BBC make value judgements about the targets. |

I think she shouldn't be sacked or sanctioned at all for her comments.
Let's just abolish this hate speech law debacle all together instead. It's a right mess. No one knows if what they say will be deemed illeagle, especially in the heat of the moment. And the punishment in many cases is much much worse than the crime. |

Tragedy plus time = comedy.
The audience laughed perhaps tentatively. What was the intent? To get a laugh. She got it. Fair play. Would any victim of an acid attack laugh? Probably not. Sacking offence? Perhaps. People have been sacked for less. Baker, Atkinson, Marsh (I think? Toon army/tsunami) |

That's the problem though, there seems to be double standards about who and what offends the BBC and the righteous brigade.
I don't think she SHOULD be sacked but the fact the PC media don't seem that bothered about it yet go mad at other things is the problem here, the hypocrisy. Just yesterday/today they are having a go at Boris. Was Boris's joke about looking like pillarboxes an attempt at a joke? I'm sure it was, he was attempting what he thought was a bit of passing wit I'm sure. He may not have succeeded, but he wasn't joking about attacking anyone. Ignore the pillar box thing, imagine chavs were throwing milkshakes on such women. If boris had cracked a joke about throwing acid on such a person he'd have been hounded to death. Farage as a right leaning white male is (who supports brexit), as always, "fair game", apparently. THAT is the problem. |

Boris is not a comedian (allegedly!)

Apply the same context and intent test to the column written by Boris in his Telegraph column.

I suppose that time when he got Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's prison sentence doubled was quite funny - but not for her obviously!
The conversation he had with Darius Guppy about beating up the journalist - now that was funny! |

For a person who would consider the self politically savvie it’s a real shocker.

Is the laughter canned?

If the laughter is canned maybe nobody thought it was funny.

She represents the Europhiles who think there's 'a special place in hell for Brexiteers' - Tusk.
She welcomes attacks on Brexit supporters and politicians. However, she wants things ramped up with battery acid to permanently disfigure people based on their political views. Milkshakes simply don't achieve this. The Left talk long into the night about 'Hope not Hate' and rile against the politics of 'division and intolerance. Oh the hypocrisy. The fact the BBC are supporting her justifies peoples' negative view of the State Broadcaster. To conclude: utter scum. Get rid (of the BBC). Good luck Brand finding work. Try CNN? |

You been infiltrating their meetings? |

What a thoroughly brilliant thread - you should all be proud of yourselves for keeping a straight face while typing your mock outrage - it oozes from every pore of your hypocritical bodies. Keep it up lads you're going to have an awful lot of this to do in your (very) old age over the next few years. Wait until Bozo is anointed PM for the fun to really start as his morals are so low that literally anything will go and you are going to be 'offended' an awful lot.
If this offends you then i wouldn't read what the rest of the world (whether they agree with brexit or not) thinks of our fair isle atm. Our standing has never been lower and is going down and it's all thanks to your generation, sorry but it is fact if you take the time to look at non right wing news sites - mind you even more than a few of those are having a good laugh at our expense and its getting louder! |

Injera - fantastic post, no it really is. Please don't forget about this in a few days and move on to your next faux outrage - keep going this is going to be a classic........

![]() also the mention of CNN absolutely shows some great free thinking |
|

Faux outrage?
Not faux and personally not outraged as I doubt many others are. All people are saying is fair is fair. If you sack Baker then Brand should be sacked too. Also I don’t actually think it was inciting violence just as Baker wasn’t inciting racial hatred. |
|
By:
Wasn't inj the lad talking about donning his red beret and taking to the tubes as some kind of vigilante police force.
Looks like he's been giving a desk job of listening to the radio and frothing furiously. To be fair, this thread is far funnier than anything Brand's done. |

So the OB are investigating Brand's comments .
Well she's dead meat then cos they are the biggest bunch of humourless b@stards ever to see the light of day . I don't wish to see the woman sacked or prosecuted cos these 'hate' laws are biggest single threat to freedom of expression , but if others have lost their livelihoods for (allegedly) similar comments or tweets that have been deemed offensive then she should go the same way . Any other outcome would suggest that the law is not being applied equally and that it therefore can be used selectively to target individuals with specific political leanings ie. political censorship . |
|
By:
I'm not outraged, incensed or offended, I just didn't find it 'funny'. I thought comedians were supposed to tell gags that were amusing and sought to entertain, call me old fashioned if you will but that was just not funny to me in the slightest.

I am sure Joe Brand meant it as a joke..she is not asking people to actually do this.
This is black humour, but one has to very careful with black humour, that it is actually humorous. If the BBC have sacked people for less than this, then in all fairness she should go as well |
