if you wanna cut down try real lemon juice and lemonade for example  and have  it ready to pour  in the fridge esp during the warmer months  ...a lot of the time i find i'm  opening a cold beer in a response  to the  hot weather   ...so  just need something to drink . Seems to work

Agreed, it's tragic moving into your 30's cos you're left with slim pickings once you separate the wheat from the chaff (no kids, not obese...)

Coincidence .. I've been making my own "lemonade" with just lemon juice and fizzy water, it's quite drinkable. Means I can avoid sugar AND aspartame etc which is in everything now.

When I quit the booze for good was aware due to past failures that drinking sugary drinks and even shandies/zero alcohol drinks affect the brain in an addictive manner due to additives etc. which sometimes was making me chain drink them like it was booze which quickly led back to the booze.
So advice would be keep off simple sugars/energy drinks and soft drinks to avoid the cravings initially and don't avoid starches in your diet to keep your insulin sensitivity up.
Seems any kind of break from the booze is a good thing nowadays plenty of underdiagnosed conditions starting from the liver good luck.

Everything in moderation queen mother drank over 80 units a week well into her 90's and got to 3 figures, truth is if your family got heart/stroke/kidney/ history then cutting out drink won't make you live to 100, enjoy life you're along time dead, many people say they feel like they 20 when they 60 CrazyCrazy What a load of bollox, a drink in the evening watching nature is brillant at 60 plus good for your heart.

^^^“Our findings are consistent with other recent research, which found clear and convincing correlations between drinking and premature death, cancer, and cardiovascular problems.

Zero alcohol consumption minimizes the overall risk of health loss.”

Research always says one drink a day is better than being teetotal anyway each to their own.

^^Research funded by the producers of alcoholic drinks no doubt.

Much the same as tobacco manufacturers told us that smoking wasn't bad for us.
People like to hear good news about their bad habits.

I had a pile of my own home made lemon juice lemonade last night and later on I might have solved a problem.

I've been wondering why my pee can sometimes be a vibrant bright yellow the last while, put two and two together.

I'm going to conduct an experiment I think!

PS
"Research always says one drink a day is better than being teetotal anyway each to their own. "
Bollox.

I'm certainly not tea total but I've certainly no misconceptions about it and wouldn't spout rubbish about it.
I'm sure there is scaremongering and rubbish from the medical profession but I've no doubt it can increase cancer risk never mind liver disease etc.

But I do think these new limits of like "14 units a week and you are a bad binge drinker" - sod off. Wouldn't surprise me if many doctors knock back twice, three times that themself. IMHO there is an element of thinking "lets pitch it very low as they'll always go over what we say anyway", which is patronising and dishonest.

Now a new study has found that just one glass of wine or beer a day raises the risk of premature death by 20%.

What a load of bollox, we as a nation drinking more than ever and living longer than ever, of course drinking too much will kill you but the bollox they come out with today is just stupid and worse still so many people believe it. Remember diesel cars, the real reason we are getting more cancers isn't ever told but they know.

If possible try to make sense of who pays for and publishes the studies and what their motives could be especially if quoted from the US.
The government, food and health industries like to keep everyone confused so that they can keep peddling their unhealthy goods and drugs that the consumers pay for when the factually healthiest ways to live and prevent disease cost very little.

And my mind goes back to that thread with lots of people saying a basic education was a waste of time.

So life expectancy is 81 years in uk if you drink one glass a day you will only live till 64 do you really believe that?? Queen mother lived till 101 drinking 80 units a week so you believe she should of lived to 121??? when her life expectancy would of been 70 Crazy how can these people be 50 years out Crazy Queen doing the same so is philip the old lady down the road drinks 3 bottles of sherry a week and still walks 3 miles to town centre at 79 the list goes on.

Do you believe if your teetotal you won't get cancer(friend was proof that's bollox died at 43 of cancer never drink or smoked in his life) do you believe non smokers never get lung cancer look the figures up it's the fastest growing cancer now, like I said all about moderation no matter what you do in life and that includes eating.

P.S If the best you've got is to try and belittle people then I feel sad for you.

No I don't like people saying stupid things about health that seems to be to encouraging people to take risky and stupid decisions about their drinking levels based on a totally obvious lack of understanding of science statistics probability and independent events.

It's the "my granny smoked 60 a day and lived to 80 so smoking can't be bad for you" thinking, it makes me want to scream.

Well if you're going down the health route never sit in a traffic Jam or walk along a main road in rush hour, smoke 60 a day it will kill you drink 10 pints a day it will kill you but one **** or one drink a day will not kill you.

Alcohol is a poison.
So you choose your own level of risk, from zero to fatal.

What do you drink in the pub, if you give up booze? Sensible suggestions only please...

Was it Frank Skinner who said when he gave up the booze it had a devastating effect on his social life.
I think many people especially those who are single, might start wondering what they go to work for if they couldn't go down the pub every night.
Of course it's different if your married or live with a partner.
And for the youngsters it's somewhere to meet up.

Although our religious friends seem to manage okay without the booze, but they're liable to get whipped for it if they drink back home, which might set their minds against it before they come here.

Millions of people pop pills everyday when they wake up, if you think that's not a poison god help you!! You're liver is the best organ in your body it gets rid of free radicals from alcohol cocaine to diesel fumes and best thing is don't put them in your body for a month you've got a new liver truly amazing.
By:

When: 05 Aug 19 09:04
Is that true? Even I can do 2 weeks when I want to, so do it back to back and I've got a new liver?
By:
Movewiththetimes
When: 05 Aug 19 10:40
The liver, however, is able to replace damaged tissue with new cells. If up to 50 to 60 percent of the liver cells may be killed within three to four days in an extreme case like a Tylenol overdose, the liver will repair completely after 30 days if no complications arise.

Blood pressure is affected by alcohol.

Andrew Marr used to take a month off drinking occasionally to help his liver.
He suffered a stroke.

today is 8 weeks without a drink now and not sure being a non drinker is for me.
Don't crave one etc but starting to think life is to short not to go out and drink with friends etc and have a few beers in the evening.
Could really do with a pint right now
