McCoy Carp I've done Keto relatively successfully in the past and was able to sustain it but found out that it wasn't healthy ingesting animal/dairy fats long term and the proteins in those foods have been proven to be carcinogens.
Another thing that I think I mentioned on this thread which your mate will be experiencing when he eats carbs is the insulin spikes.Insulin is very low when in ketosis as you eat nothing that produces much of an insulin response, this changes after being on a low carb diet which quickly make you gain weight if you still eat fat and proteins doesn't even have to be much in my experience.
There have been plenty debate as to whether keto leaves you in a worse state insulin wise and more susceptible to type 2 afterwards for the former reasons, coupled with likely internal fat storage as is the norm with ingesting fats (impossible to burn off numbers for almost everyone) this is very probable imo.

It doesn't matter what you eat and drink and what the "diet" you follow is or claims to do.
You will still be healthy or unhealthy. It isn't down to diet otherwise some of us would live forever.

McDougall is NOT a respected authority on diabetes.
He is a self-advertised quack who utilises his apparent medical credentials to make money.

There are others like him.
Crippen, not that you EVER listen to or understand reason. You are only seeing what HE says about his own work and who HE tells you agrees with him.
He's a quack, and you are an idiot.

It is just the same as saying that if you sprinkle salt on your front door step, it will keep the Elephants off.
Some people will just go and get the salt.

Another nothing post from STUDYFORM where he contributes nothing to the debate.

You are only seeing what HE says

Yet earlier today I gave a link to a video made by a professor Tim Noakes who presents the other side of the coin entirely.

You really are an empty head.

That sentence proves you are completely out of your depth on any health or nutrition discussion.
To suggest suggest that what you eat or drink 'doesn't matter' and 'you will still be healthy or unhealthy' is complete unfounded fiction which is NOT supported by ANYONE regardless of their particular dietary teachings.
If anyone was in any doubt of your credentials on advising anyone on health and nutrition issues they certainly are not now.

Crippen:
Writing all over the forum that diabetes is brought on by bad diet.
That Stress is tripe. People are making it up. Psoriasis is cured by diet.
Or any other illness that you seem to think is brought on by people being foolish by not following some preacher on the internet and that you know better than all the medical profession and that they are out there to con everyone, but the evangelicals aren't.
Is:
Insulting to all the people who've spent years researching and studying.
Insulting to all those who are sick or have the problems you so readily dismiss.
Showing you up for the gullible idiot you are.
and WRONG.

See, Crippen? you are (as always) WRONG.

By:

When: 17 Oct 18 16:47
exactly, thebaron.

Denzil, you are missing the point.
Obviously, some common sense is needed. But there is NO magical cure-all diet.

More importantly, as I said from the beginning.
No dietary ideas from some self-propelling "Doctor" will cure diabetes.
Your saying it will is simply wrong too.

And I am most definitely the only one writing anything sensible about health issues.
not remotely out of my depth.
I think it's relatively clear to see.

Utter delusion of the highest order.
By:

No, it isn't.
The only deluded people are those who have no experience of a condition and believe con-men.

I think you fall into that category.

We've been told for decades that eating saturated fat is a killer.

''Meat gives us cancer'' as well coming from the highest authority.

And STUDYFORM dismisses both.

Marvellous.
By:
Dr Crippen
When: 17 Oct 18 17:14
Even there they still don't tell us not to eat saturated fat.
Just like meat, they tell us to merely cut down eating it.

With someone with clogged arteries or diabetes, that's like telling a person whose house is on fire to ease up throwing petrol on it.
Or only douse it with petrol occasionally.

so much bickering on here lol .

I always thought it was universally agreed that

1. any number of calories over and beyond what you use will make you put on weight .
2. Saturated fats aren't bad but can be in excess of 25g a day
3. Protein isn't bad but can be in excess of  around appx 150g
4. Prolonged Stress is always bad  (cortisol = inflammation)
5. Too much of any type of fat is bad if it exceeds the calorie count
6. Sugar isn't required
7. Complex carbs are best taken in moderation
8. Sun exposure is crucial Apr/Sept this far north ...sunlight exposure UVA at other times also
is beneficial for nitric oxide and serotonin
9. Too much omega 6 isn't good -  Omega 3 almost impoossible to come by unless you're a fan of
   sardines lol
10. Alcohol ,smoking and excercise we already know plenty about
11. Doctors will keep giving you drugs regardless if it appears you haven't studied  and tried
    to rectify
any issues  in your own time ,most Doctors appreciate folk trying to find a natural remedy
however sceptical they are  ..but they will not just leave things to chance
12. getting enough fibre is critical
13. most supps are a waste of time and effort unless you are already deficient ..water soluble
vits will be p1ssed down the toilet  ..vits D,A and E are fat sol and will store but too much is dangerous
14. Trans fats are a no-no

i could go on and on ...
By:
DenzilPenberthy
When: 17 Oct 18 17:43
Most of those are dependent on other factors mainly what else you consume and some are just fiction.
By:
Dr Crippen
When: 17 Oct 18 17:47
No 1.

A very high fat diet such as Atkins does not restrict calorie intake.
Neither does the McDougall and co starch based diet.

Two very different diets and both guaranteed to cause you lose weight without counting calories.

Saturated fats aren't bad?
Yet we've been told for decades they cause heart disease.

No 3.

3. Protein isn't bad but can be in excess of  around appx 150g

Some women weigh little over 7 stones, many men weigh in at over 20 stones.
Where does the 150g come from?

Crippen ...  they are not 'bad'

they are just another fat  ...to much isn't good ,there is no study anywhere  has concluded that sensible intake of saturates cause  health problems .

France for decades  has one of the highest sat fat intakes anywhere ,and i believe Finland is another - heart death rates no different to  here  and one of the lowest in the world .

i was talking about an average sized person ...those numbers would be adjusted for women /bodybuilders etc ...but you knew that already

How much fat does it take to bugger your arteries?
Another slice of cheese on the hamburger isn't going to make any difference
Highest lowest rates, what difference does it make, they all suffer heart disease through eating fat in varying amounts.

Protein intake is best expressed in % of total calorie intake, or % of total intake.

Look on the side of a packet of oats.12% protein.

An coolie would work in a field all day on a diet of rice mainly. Which is 7-8% protein.

Mothers milk doesn't contain much protein, simply because it contains enough.

Indeed people with kidney problems are told to cut back on protein, because of the stress it puts on the organ.
And sufferers of gout should really reduce their intake of protein as well, since the purines produce uric acid.
