Stress,Smoking,lack of SLEEP,Sugar,Sedentary living .... the 5 S's .

fat on the other hand (except trans fat) isn't the villain as much as it's portrayed  ,fats can be a friend ...make sure you don't overdo the omega 6  -  carbs are good too   (complex and not simple) ...sticking to the calories (old school and boring) seems to be the standard .
Not sure who this McDougall  guy is ,but it's never wise to follow someone on the internet unless you have very good knowledge of the subject .

it's amazing what you can learn after doing an elimination diet.

Which means eating a single number of safe foods for a week.

When you reintroduce each food one at a time, and you find one that's been giving you problems. It hits you like a hammer and the change from going from well to very unwell is startling.

Yet many people go through life feeling wretched all the time without a clue what's making them feel ill.

And trying to even get them to consider it could be their diet is impossible.

Coachbuster are you STUDYFORM'S other username? I sympathise with anyone suffering from long term illnesses but being blinkered isn't doing him any favours.
I live on sugar in one form or another 500-600g per day depending on activity and I'm in the best health of my adult life barring the odd niggle.

That's true currently weighing and writing down all food/drink and activities plus regular weigh ins, finding that simply calories in/out are a minor cog in the bodyworks interesting stuff nonetheless.

regarding Doctors and medication Dr CRIPPEN , I think there are a lot of folk out there who like the idea of taking medication so they can continue with their poor Lifestyles  ..Doctors know this of course.
I once spoke to a guy who was chomping down pastries and chips who had a mighty high LDL reading ...i was a bit surprised ,but his thinking  was  'thats fine ,i'm on statins now' Laugh

People go to alternative doctors for one reason only.

It's because they've found using regular drug peddling doctors to be a waste of time and money.

It should make anyone take notice when a conventionally trained doctor has abandoned his drugs to use a different approach altogether.

Dr Crippen ,i like your reasoning ..it makes sound sense ,but most folk are either too blinkered or lazy to want to help themselves  .  I'm not including Studyform as he has already mentioned about him taking positive steps ...
Denzil ..why so much sugar ?

They think I'm all right now I'm on metaformin for my diabetes, I can eat what I like.
And when I get worse I'll start jabbing myself with insulin.

Then by the time I lose a limb I'll be nearly dead anyway.

Most of my food is starch wholefoods rest is fruit/veg and depending on exercise measured glucose and sweets so little to 0 fat and low protein contained in the wholefoods.

No just starch based with the extras as and when eat plenty of bananas and try different fruits like pineapple/watermelon/apples/grapefruit/berries as and when I fancy them, very difficult to add weight got my calories with difficulty to nearly 3000 calories for a few days and weight actually went down but feel best early 2000's.

i was thinking ,as kids it was a diet almost of sugary foods ... ridiculous amounts  ...but then  we  were always running around  so not a fat kid to be seen in our group . I don't think it caused us any long term issues .
today's kids of course, still the same sugars but very little exercise Sad

Very true amongst young kids there's a massive gym explosion amongst teenagers though probably due to internet and TV body shaming etc.

I stick to roughly around 2000 cals ,more if the odd beer thrown in   ...100g protein a day (which is too much)  100g fat a day/30g sats  (too much again of both)  and  only 100g of carbs  ...not a big carb fan ,pure added Sugars 30g  a day roughly .   Plenty of veggies .

you find there are 3 or 4 camps now ...the gym guys who are in mostly perfect shape ... the everyday average healthy weight  ...and then the unhealthy  , but not just overweight as in obese  .. but unhealthy as in 'skinny fat '  ..so a low BMI  but with dangerous visceral (belly) fat .

BMI's have been the standard for measurement ,but theyre a terrible gauge in all honesty
By:
DenzilPenberthy
When: 15 Oct 18 00:29
The fats are the issue there health wise and use up your calories,100g of protein is a mid range number for most veggies good.
Was on more than 200g fat per day on Keto but it's not healthy long term.
BMI is bolox to anybody who's lifted weights, when I was about 19 with a not too bothered diet I was 5ft 8 had a 50 inch chest,17 1/2 inch arms 26+ inch thighs,17 inch calves and a 34 waist always 13 stone 7lbs in good shape fit and strong but overweight by BMI.

Denzil , oats will keep you feeling full and are supposed to be a winner for heart health ..not sure if you're a fan .

Some say they are an anti nutrient  but i'd always say take your more nutrituous foods elswhere in the day to be sure

Never been on any drugs btw. hormones are everything almost everyone with any kind of physique is on some sort of gear now whether it be androgens or stimulants plenty stimulants have an added muscle building affect.
Good rule of thumb if anybody has arms 11 inches or more than their wrist measurement they are 100% on something.

Used to be into boxing and training about 14 or so was always skinny missed a year through a badly broken leg then trained with a mate lifting, sparring and naturally grew eating anything was just hormonal I think looking back.

My mate was extremely vascular and had tennis ball biceps as it turns out I now know his asthma wasn't the hinderance it was set out to be fitness wise,he nearly always had an inhaler.

crikey lol , it must have been . Once you lose the pounds you will still have a very healthy mass there ...worth  continuing with i say  .

Shrunk quickly on this diet that was what made me do Keto originally to keep any mass underneath but really I was too fat/unhealthy and still am so sticking with this way forever now, recently added pea protein shakes to test the effects but was crippled with aches which subsided when I stopped long term health the important thing now.
