Does anybody believe that they are actually in Salisbury hospital?

Surely, they would be in a specialised lab somewhere, Porton Down? If only to protect other patients and nurses, that's if they are ill and secondly, this would have been a massive pr coup for British intelligence, so why no hospital pics like we had for livinenko?  Answer must be that this has all been staged and the 2 actors are in a safe house helping mi5/6

I read autobiographies of 2 CIA chiefs(during cold war) some years ago. If those books were to be believed, the most striking thing for me was how good the russians were in espionage and how stupid the americans were. This whole episode reminds me of the events mentioned in those books. The British response has been sloppy and they are either stupid, or trying to achieve some diplomatic goals through a staged attack.

As far as I am concerned, this isn't a russian job. If you want to kill someone in London, there are much easier ways. Whoever did it, wanted it to be a public event. Judging by May's hurried response, I am pretty confident Russia has been framed in this. The whole point of this episode was that it becomes public. The purpose was never to kill the guy, whatever his name is.

There's another thing i've noticed regarding how easy it is to keep the public busy. Merkel in her very first speech to the parliament said Islam is here to stay, just like Judaism and Christianity are an integral part of German history. This was said despite the interior minister saying a week before that Islam does not belong in Germany.

Not relevant to the poisoning, but just an example of how people can be kept busy in one event. On any other day, that speech by merkel would have created multiple threads here, but no one even bothered because everyone was busy blaming Russia Happy

nonsense to say how good Russian spys were and how stupid American. The Russians were operating against and inside a free and democratic society and the Americans were operating against and inside a closed and repressive dictatorship, much more difficult

Its like trying to compare operating a spy network against N.Korea to one operating against Britain today, not comparable

The way Theresa May has been travelling the country it makes you wonder. the problem is these people have zero charisma and you simply can't relate with them, and she looks awkward when shaking hands etc. Does anyone actually realise she doesn't have a majority though? she's not had a majority for some time LaughCrazy it seems to have gone unnoticed though.

mp for Salisbury seems to suggest on sky news that the uk government no,s the names or name of the people who did this, who were on the same flight from Russia as the daughter and no they left on anothert fligh shortly after the attack, all news to everyone except maybe kay burley who didn't bother asking the mp how he knew all this

How about this for a theory...

Skripals are poisoned... doesn't take long to discover the daughter had come in on a flight from Moscow the day before so plod check the flight's manifest and find a couple of knowns linked to the Russian State were also on the flight. In the meantime, Porton Down have seen enough to give the "It's kinda like Novichok" line. Add the two together and I can see how TM et al would feel confident to go with the accusations without conclusive proof of the exact source of the agent/substance.

You could pick plenty of wholes in such a theory I'm sure. For instance, Russia would have known where the daughter was going, so really no need to be so indiscreet as to put Oddjob and his rack of test tubes in the row behind her on the same flight.

All I can say is, we better get a satisfying explanation at the end of all this. Maybe with Boris gathering all the suspects round like an episode of Death in Paradise?

what if the daughter was the guilty person and got a low dose by accident

You certainly couldn't discount it totally, 1st time. Suppose you could question what the motive would be for killing her own father, but with all this spy sh*t and double agent stuff anything could be possible I guess.

Can't remember if I said it earlier in the fred, but one way or the other, I think it's a massive coincidence she'd just flown in from Moscow the day before.

If it was her, tho, would she be sticking around and going out for drinks and pizza with her target after poisoning him? And if she had mistakenly got a dose herself, wouldn't she have got herself some help, given she'd have known what was happening to them both?

From what I remember reading yes bf has stuff going on and his mum is Rosa Klebb or something. Whether it's true love or there's more to it than that (ie. she joined the family business) it sounds like her life's not exactly been an episode of Call The Midwife.

I still can't believe the PM knows Russia carried out a chemical attack in her country and the best she's done is throw out their diplomats. Maybe after fighting America's wars for decades the people have forgotten how to fight their own? With her confidence from day 1, I was expecting she'll at least have something concrete to prove her statement about Russia.

once they have 'proven' that Putin did it, what are they going to do.  Some day 'normal' relations will continue.  Germany has already done this. Approval of new gas line with russia   ho ho ho - really strong reaction to the russian 'crime' from good old friend merkel.

"I was expecting she'll at least have something concrete to prove her statement about Russia."

You would think that May and Boris do have some information which has not yet been made public. Otherwise jumping the gun like this and pointing the finger at Russia has caused world-wide problems ! May and Boris could still be right but this throws some doubt on it.

They say how deadly this nerve agent is but it hasn't actually killed anybody, if it was the Russians I would have thought they would have done a more professional job. Corbyn was right to advise caution before jumping to conclusions.

British scientists at the Porton Down defence research laboratory have not established that the nerve agent used to poison Sergei and Yulia Skripal was made in Russia, it has emerged.

Aitkenhead said the government had reached its conclusion that Russia was responsible for the Salisbury attack by combining the laboratory’s scientific findings with information from other sources. !!!!!!!(my exclamation marks)

The UK government moved quickly to make it clear that the prime minister, Theresa May, had always been clear the assessment from Porton Down was “only one part of the intelligence picture”.

Now see how the government tries to spin it on to porton down -  as if it is porton wot got it wrong ho ho

A UK government spokesman played down the signficance of Aitkenhead’s remarks. He said: “We have been clear from the very beginning that our world-leading experts at Porton Down identified the substance used in Salisbury as a novichok.

BUT is it Russian?  It is likely it is or is it. I don't know and nor do they.
Why didn't they wait for confirmation if they are able to trace this stuff.
And how come the people poisoned are recovering - I thought it was deadly with no KNOWN antidote.

You wouldn't convict a rapist on this sort of evidence  - or would you.  They seemed to have done well in hiding evidence and carrying on with dodgy fixed convictions/cases - 900 last year wasn't it.

They haven't said it wasn't either. The EU and the US have both seen the evidence and 'concluded', like the UK, that Russia is the likely source of the nerve agent.
