to start the ball rolling theres buildings, bridges, roads etc built by companies on the cheap using unskilled cheap foreign labour ,with the cheapest minimum standard materials,be careful out there folks,if these safety checks get expanded to other projects we,ll finally see the cost of getting jobs done on the cheap using cheap unskilled ,unregulated labour force, doing a job twice aint cheap

Seems like, once again, our strong and stable Government has tried to polish a tvrd. Hopefully the ones responsible for this tragedy are charged with manslaughter.

Quite unbelievable!!!!
Did Khan build the flats?
Did Boris, come to that?

Is there anything you won't try to make some sort of political point about?
How the F can the mayor of London be in any way culpable?

Even by YOUR standards that post is appalling, Crippen

Theresa May’s new chief of staff was one of a series of housing ministers who “sat on” a report warning high-rise blocks like Grenfell Tower were vulnerable to fire for four years.
A former Chief Fire Officer and secretary of a parliamentary group on fire safety today revealed successive ministers had had damning evidence on their desks since 2013 and nothing had happened..

Who wouldv'e gussed eh,not that surprising considering johnson got rid of 10 fire stations as well in london cuts,cuts.cuts.Cuts in police, johnson on the fire stations now this this government needs punishing. The list just goes on and on,everyones sick to death of them there's gonna be dizenz dead in those flats..

Quite frankly when I heard about insulating cladding used, I thought ''no they wouldn't be daft enough to use regular insulating material''
Yet they did.
Even the way it was fitted encouraged the rapid spread of fire should it ignite.

Now it appears there was gas supplied in the flats. I didn't think they used gas in flats due to the obvious dangers of the lot going up. Which seems to have happened.
All the flats I've been in have been electric only.

The council people in charge seem completely incompetent, and the safety people who advise them even worse.

Gas in the flats? I've also been under the impression that blocks of flats were all electric. I've never worked in any with mains gas.

When you ask questions about where the blame should lie, you always start at the top.

That's where the decisions are made.

If the people below them aren't up to the job, then why are they still there?

I don't think there can be any blame on the fire service.  How high can you pump water to?  How much pressure in the hydrants?  How much reduction in pressure if many are used in the same area?
I can't see the outcome would have been very different if twice as many fireman arrived in half the time.

At this stage it is pretty evident that the construction methods are to blame and possibly supply of gas.  No doubt these will be reviewed.

Whoever authorised the fitting of the cladding needs the sack.
It shouldn't even be legal.

Are they all stupid?

These people are supposed to be technical experts, when they appear to proceed along the lines of trial and error.
How much thought does it take to work out that poly on a building is dangerous?
The people in charge of Building regulations need replacing as well

This isn't just a case of lack of spending, as much as a case of incompetence of where the money should have been spent.

Cladding the outside of a building isn't cheap. How would that compare to installing a sprinkler system instead?
Insulation instead of safety seems to have been the priority.

And where would green targets figure in that decision?

I look forward to mass arrests. Scare the fk out of the planners, council, and the companies, government ministers etc etc. Haul them all in and question them as clearly there can be offences here.  That would make them realise how serious killing people is whilst trying to make a building prettier.

However, they will hide behind the regulations that say everything was fitted in line with them.  They escaped from jail after the last tower block fire.

no updated regulations

no appropriate legislation and no punishment for those transgressing

the last council got away with it

and as for companies - well they are just following the guidelines so they can duck out of sticking pretty panels on buildings

Obviously lot of questions here about fire-safety regulations and also the dangers of external cladding, and how the fire quickly spread throughout the whole building. But in Dubai with so many high-rise buildings you would think Dubai has the maximum safety guidelines designed to include fire breaks at every floor. And 2 yrs ago on New Years Eve 40 storeys of a downtown hotel in Dubai quickly went ablaze, although no one was killed. But really how safe are these monstrosities ?

It's all about the money. Buildings are built using lower quality material and unskilled foreign workers paying the minimum pay rate possible.

People are just collateral damage if anything goes wrong. Nice words come from the politicians after a tragedy, but it doesn't bring the dead people back.

Care in the community [letting mental patients out onto the streets when they should be locked up] is another money saving exercise with any killed member of the public just collateral damage.

And on and on it goes.Cry

Relating to Dubai

I understand this type of cladding is a big no no now.  I don't know if it is similar to what was used here but it only seems to be an accelerant as the experts are saying.

Some of the "news reporters" have acted disgracefully.

I watched a BBC reporter shoving his microphone and his face right into the face of a poor woman crying over a missing 12 year old family member.

He really had his face right up close to hers..... I would've dropped the nut on him

Other than saying that there is no evidence of that allegation there wasnt much anyone could say at this stage I shouldnt wonder.
It wouldnt matter anyway, the people on the end of this have their minds made up.

Besides, its laughable to suggest its payback, but who knows how this will transpire?
There could be a cleansing element to it, if money was refused to deal with issues. Ive heard tenants say that there was allegedly an agenda to 'clear the area' and most recently just heard from one guy that there was no water available to the top flats (which might be down to a lack of water pressure as they had more sourcing it by tackling the fire....but who knows?)
