For the record, it was my post that was removed - in about 10 seconds flat. It contained no swearing, no insults, and nothing contravening the rules. What it did contain was a rebuttal to Cardifffc's inaccurate accusation of racism, making him look a fool in the process.

About 20 years ago, I was talking to a bloke in a betting shop, (who's since died) who fought (if that's the word) in - I think - the Suez crisis. He was recanting a tale about how he and his comrades overwhelmed a group of Egyptian soldiers. "No-one could understand the language", he said, "Them OR us. But they WERE trying to surrender" "They all got their c0cks out - to show they were circumcised, so we wouldn't shoot them". He continued, smiling. "So we cut their c0cks off, put 'em in their mouths.... THEN we shot 'em" I didn't smile back and the story has haunted me ever since. Such things have always happened. Particularly when those with the most firepower or most likely victors get a bit of power. And therein lies the issue. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those in charge want the cannon fodder to do things they wouldn't dream of doing and really don't want to be bothered with. As was also suggested earlier, dreadful things - atrocities we can only have nightmares about - happen under the banner of war. This doesn't make it right. Now, if the Marine deemed mentally unstable (as was his defence) was - as some of you are suggesting, doing what any soldier would do in that situation, then by definition, he wasn't mentally unstable. Therefore he must be guilty, not least because he said so even as he committed the act. Where do you draw the line? Napalming kids in Vietnam? Raping all the girls in Berlin when capturing it? Gassing innocent Kurdish population? 50% of enemy prisoners killed building the Burmese railway? You cannot decide some is OK and some isn't. The reason many people are so blasé about such acts is simply because it happens 'Over there'. You lot have never witnessed the horrors happening around the world, often to protect Oil or simply to sell arms. What I'm not seeing is sympathy for ordinary people. Anywhere. If the opposition is unable to fight back. Then there is no need to execute. Otherwise there would never be prisoners of war. |

A bloke in a pub tells you surrendereng soldiers produced their appendages, and as a result had them cut off and shoved down their throats before being shot. It must be true because "he had no reason to lie and was matter of fact". Have you any idea how ridiculous that is, guys never drink in pubs, guys never lie in pubs, guys never boast about things they have never done in pubs, FFS cop yourself on and resist abusing other posters when losing an argument/discussion. I don't recall you using so much text on Dead, British soldiers or those coming back minus limbs. There is no moral high in war and you citing other atrocities in other wars only serves to weaken your argument. Don't bother replying to me I have no wish to waste any more time on you. who is a member of the taliban. There should be no taliban prisoners taken and no medical aid given to the taliban, it will be their responsibility. Anyone who joins the taliban should be under no illusion, they will not be taken prisoner, they will not receive medical help, if the British armed forces come across them they will be shot. |
