you see it depends on the war, it depends on the type of war, it depends on who is fighting the war, it depends on their beliefs and their way of thinking.
It could be put this way. I like war and I like peace. |
By:
how can that be reconciled? Well certain wars bring great peace and civilisation and progress and freedom.
I like those types of war. |

A lot depends on the state of the man who was shot.
There is something very difficult in the idea that an Apache can unload hundreds of 30mm rounds at someone, and not finish the job, and we then ask a group of soldiers to put themselves at risk to save the life of a man who their compatriots have, just this second, from the relative safety of a heavily armed helicopter, attempted to liquidise. If the talibani was so seriously injured that it wasn't even a judgement call, would a mercy killing have even been necessary? The video evidences suggests to the contrary, particularly the goading, the kicking and moving him away from the surveillance balloon, and it makes it pretty clear that the excuses are more limited than the apologists might like to think. |
By:
everyone who joins the taliban should be sentenced to death simply by the very act of joining.'
no one can be under any illusion as it's purpose and the barbaric acts of murder. |
By:
the only question that would arise is if it was not a taliban that was shot.
He was a taliban and therefore the sentence was death. |
By:
the simple fact that it was a taliban means that the British soldier had no case to answer .
By:
So the Geneva Convention applies unless your enemy are deemed to be terrorists ?
So whenever you have a war just say the enemy are terrorists and do what you like ? |
By:
If they behave like terrorists they are so. No British soldier would have considered the average Argentinian soldier as a terrorist during the Falklands war.
The average German soldier was not considered a terrorist during WW1 and WW2. It is if you look at the above, and many more examples, very easy not to be considered a terrorist and it is not something that Britain, or Germany, or France, or America etc does on every occasion. It is done when and if warranted, as in the case of the Taliban. Of course if you wish to be silly about it you could say why not? why not just label the enemy as terrorists irrespective of their behaviour. We can worry about that when and if it happens. |

Does anyone know have any of East Germany`s soldiers or military police been brought to trial for shooting
and murdering innocent people trying to move home from East to West Germany? And are there are any British leftists or even those in Merkels Germany calling for these murderers to be brought to justice? |
By:
perhaps studyform, Eboue, asparagus..etc could let us know do they believe that these East German soldiers
should be put on trial for murder, in peacetime and of innocent harmless German people? I don't know, lets see. |
By:
If you train/ brainwash someone to have a mindset to kill people, then no surprise when the ' machine' does just that.

My post deleted again!!!!
WHY???? |
By:
"They all got their c0cks out - to show they were circumcised, so we wouldn't shoot them".
He continued, smiling. "So we cut their c0cks off, put 'em in their mouths.... THEN we shot 'em" ------------------------- Sounds like it might be bravado to me, do you have proof that this was done or did you simply take his word? |
By:
I agree if the roles were reversed the british soldier would be executed but thats irrelevant ...our moral standards are not the same as the Taliban........we are supposed to be better
By:
I doubt the troops give much thought to virtue signalling at the sharp end when people are trying to kill em tbf.
By:
don't think the Taliban fighter was in any danger of killing him tbf
By:
so saddo........when the SS executed 10 wounded SAS in france during WW2..............that by your logic was fair enough
By:
or does your logic only apply to the taliban
By:
I think the very idea of having rules about how people can kill each other is faintly ridiculous. When you treat prisoners horribly as a matter of course yourself, you should expect no mercy. A tiny minority in this land will gaf about the dead Taliban, but they are the ones making the noise as usual.
By:
saddo ....thought of becoming a politician .....you dodged the question well.........did those SAS deserve to be executed iyo??
By:
its a yes or no
By:
no waffle
By:
no, British soldiers are under the protection of the Geneva convention, the Taliban are not.
By:
I don't know or really care what you refer to, my opinion on something 70 years ago will change nothing. I do know those men were fighting to keep this country free from German domination though, and two generations down the line we'd virtually given ourselves over to German rule. You think they would approve?
By:
German soldiers are under the protection of the Geneva convention, as are Argentinian, French etc
terrorists are not, that's how it is. |
By:
you can not have rights without responsibilities. Once you join the Taliban you forego those rights.
By:
if that's the case why did the soldier get charged with murder....................he was entitled to shot him iyo
By:
if the Taliban were not the Taliban? that might be different. it is for them to change and then we might reconsider.
By:
the Taliban are an odious bunch but they were running the country...........so they were entitled to defend their country........
By:
I am reminded of a comment by Bette Davis when told of the death of her dear colleague Joan Crawford
"you should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good... Joan Crawford is dead. Good" |
By:
and no, people are not entitled to defend their country, necessarily.
By:
why??............so if there is any government we don't like...........we should just be able to invade them
By:
I suspect you were in favour of invading Iraq ................do you think that was right...........do you think it went well??
By:
lets put it like this Cardiff, if Britain was under a barbaric and murderous and oppressive regime I would pray every night for some other nation, America or France or Russia, however may be brave enough and might do so to come and save me.
I don't know why. |
By:
you see it doesn't concern me very much what you call this country, or some other country. call it France if you wish
that doesn't bother me. |
By:
if I was living in any of these countries, say N. Korea and the US was to invade and overthrow the regime, I would say thankyou and be grateful to America for the rest of my life
By:
now you might say that N. Korea has the right to defend itself? I don't believe it does
By:
There are feather dusters on here who actually believe the goon in Korea is a threat to this country. The same people see no threat to this country from Islam.

By:
if you think putting a bullet in to an unharmed man is fine then your morality is seriously warped......goodbye
By:
Cardiff, how the hell can you say he was unarmed??? Would you have known for sure?Wasn't he an insurgent?? Don't they carry guns? Grenades? Explosives strapped to their bodies? Would that patrol know he wasn't lying on a grenade? Christ it's people like you that would worry more about a dying insurgent than that patrol returning home in body bags or without legs.
