i am sorry about the matadors death. i am also sorry that this exercise in 'honour' and 'respect' exists. how you conflate this with iraq or 'rolf' i dont know. the fact is that if you were to try to introduce bull-fighting now, the e.u. would call you a lot of names, and tell you to pheck off. but because it is a tradition, that makes it ok, and the spanish get away with it. if i tried to introduce the north london bull-fighting squad in competition with the spanish version, i would be shredded by liberals that hate blood-sports;  the same people who call fox-hunters 'barbarians' do not realise that the rest of europe are, by their definition, barbarian. restriction of hunting and laws against animal cruelty are at their strongest in the u.k.
By:

Nonsense point as I said before. If you tried to introduce eating meat, horse racing, Cigarettes, alcohol etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. they wouldn't be allowed either.
By:

is that your best defence? things that exist but should not? bull fighting is seen as abhorrent in all of europe. are we all wrong? it cannot exist elsewhere. we deem it cruel, and will not have it. you say it is ok, because of tradition. i say bollox.

Sorry, but your argument was that if it was introduced now it wouldn't be allowed. This is a very poor argument because there are numerous things that wouldn't be allowed if they were introduced now. If you want to adopt the abhorrent and cruel argument then fair enough but don't blame me for you adopting an argument that is nonsense and doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Flamenco Dancing and Paella are historical and cultural in Spain, but Bull Fighting is barbaric and has no place in a civilised world.

Barbaric is making millions of people destitute by invading their country and destroying their existance ,but somehow a few dead bulls is a top priority

Civilised world you say  ....17m people in the uk are sick of the luvvies telling them what they must think

leave spain alone ,its  youth unemployment that needs tackled not their culture

Fox hunting is considered by some to be our culture in the uk.
It's still barbaric and has no place in a civilised society.
Bit like dog fighting**** fighting, bear baiting etc .
Bull fighting comes under the same category imo.
It's cruel and is only there for the ' pleasure ' of the audience.
We don't live in gladiatorial times.
Maybe those that enjoy  the sight of bulls being tormented, tortured then slain, would wish the same on humans fighting to the death.

Hopefully we've moved on.

Braednbuttewr the voice of reason. Very well said. I was going to post yesterday but some of the comments made me so angry I would've said something I might regret.

Some sicko saying he was glad his wife was there to see it !!

There was never the same outpouring when the religion of peace threw somebody they considered to be gay to his death from a high building.

Or even when they buried a poor women up to her neck and then stoned her to death, because she might be an adulterer.

It's cruel but there are more pressing things that need putting right.

I agree Rockinron. I think this sport? should be abolished like **** fighting, bear baiting and other barbaric sports.

I see no reason we cannot deal with animal rights and women and gay rights together kim.

Braednbuttewr the voice of reason No he isn't Kim. He's the voice of boloks. Every time there's an animal cruelty related thread he always makes some pathetic reason to condone it or at least not criticise it.

So we can't discuss a suffering bull without someone equating it worse (in their opinion) human suffering. Ridiculous.

I am an animal lover but have watched a bullfight. I am ashamed to say that I found it fascinating.

More to my taste is Swiss Cow fighting. Nothing gets hurt except the few onlookers who get tiddled and fall over.

Kenny I don't read all the animal threads so I didn't know BB's previous opinions but I agree with what he said on here.

I'm an animal lover I've rescued 2 dogs and a couple of farm cats, my uncle had a farm when I was a nipper I've always been around animals.

Bull fighting is cruel, but there are worse examples of animal cruelty as you well know and often rightly point out,

Before we start taking the Spanish to task we need to look a bit closer to home and the things young children are subjected to in this country.

I'm swimming against the tide here but I felt sorry for the guy and even sorrier for his wife having to witness it and I'm hardened to a lot of things in life.

Haven't even read this thread but inevitably it turned into a Kenny Mann rant.  Just bear in mind everyone that he pays his way by betting on horses who are habitually whipped and feeds his cats on meat that comes from dubious sources.  Not saying that his motives aren't noble just that he is inconsistent, which isn't the biggest crime in the world.

Shocking and given warning I would never be looking at this!

Did they drag him out with a tractor as I think that is the tradition?

I watched a documentary, some years ago, about a twelve year old boy learning the roll.

He got hurt and was clearly upset but told to go back into the arena.

He did kill the bull which was worn down by the "Picadors" (I think that's the term) with multiple blades in it's back,
and he dispatched it with the long curved sword, that they have under the red cape.

Awful!!

It's not either/or, whatever we have going on here is naff all to whether or not we hold the Spanish in contempt for this or not. Judging by posts on newspapers and youtube etc it's not a popular thing anywhere.

News: "Disney Pixar beat "Finding Nemo"'s box office receipts with "Stabbing Lorenzo". Good family entertainment all round as the animated jolly farm animal gets brutally stabbed to death by a dancing ponce in a ridiculous camp outfit that if you hadn't seen it in real life you'd think was made up in the minds of the animators".

I think the bull should come into the ring fresh and take on the matador

To the people saying that the Matador deserved to die, what exactly are you advocating?

The death penalty for animal cruelty??

Would have to start handing out some pretty stiff sentences for other crimes then.

I'm sure he knew the risks, but there is a world of difference between saying this, and saying he deserved to die.

And disagreeing with bullfighting and not revelling in a man's death are not mutually exclusive.
By:
ebulGery
When: 11 Jul 16 22:12
I did not say he deserved to die

what I said was he can have no conceivable complaint!

considering the Bulls he has killed

my objection is not to the kill, a thrust between the eyes is ok

it is the preceding torture of the bull I object to
