don`t worry about trade, that is a matter for business and is not linked to free movement except in the minds of politicians.

We already have a system for non-EU workers, a threshold and visa system. Similarly that would apply to EU workers after Brexit. Those here are invited to stay are they not?

Many of those UK migrants abroad should pass their chosen country's threshold where they reside.
Many retire to Spain with money and assets, they will be allowed to stay also.
Others may require visas to work.

If the pound stays low against the Euro many pensioners will return from Spain to the U.K.

the fisheries policy needs scrapping, tons of dead fish chucked back every week. Also why should a no mark in Brussels tell me how many bass I can take home and eat?

I voted out because the EU is a demonstrably corrupt organisation where control over spending is critised by their auditors EVERY year.

I would vote tomorrow to be in a  European Common Market - I did in 1975.

But we should not be part of an organisation that receives UK taxpayers' funds and uses them improperly.

Simple as that (for me, anyway)

Will McCallum, head of oceans at Greenpeace UK, pointed out that the Westminster government, rather than Brussels, was in charge of allocating the EU-agreed fishing quota, and had chosen for years to give most of it to a handful of large corporations rather than to the smaller fishermen who have most to lose.

He said: “Leaving the EU has often been held up as a magic pill for the UK’s fishing industry. But now we’ve voted to leave, it is far from plain sailing. One thing is clear: the UK government cannot settle back into its old habit of privileging a handful of large companies to the detriment of the UK’s small-scale fishermen. It wasn’t the EU that gave almost two-thirds of the entire fishing quota of England and Wales to just three companies - it was the British government.”

Those UK pensioners in Spain that want to come back could be a straight swap for 400,000 Eastern Europeans?

Only joking, or am i?

Plenty of Polish will want to head back and i know the Polish media is attempting to scare their citizens from coming to the UK. Plus sterling exchanged to zloty is not as beneficial as it was.

Polish government and media do not want their citizens to return home from Britain, don`t be fooled by their public face, they are very careful not to make clear the truth, listen to what they say and remember not to trust it.

the British government have not enforced quotas that means the mass dumping of fish that is solely down to Brussels

I mean, if the government had given quotas to more small scale fishers, like it has the right to and should be doing, instead of allocating most of the quota to just a small number of large fishery companies that don't quite appreciate fish, or different kinds of fish, as much, there would be far, far less mass dumping of fish, right Burton?

Not at all.

I and other UK voters can vote out corrupt MPs when we have a General Election.
It's called democracy.

Like we have had an opportunity to vote out from the corruption that's the EU - and we have.

It's called democracy.

it wouldn't even be 1% of the fish caught. 40% of our quotas are owned by the Dutch and French companies anyway. Their legislation has affected everyone from the skipper to me going with my rod and line after bass, come and talk to the Cornish skippers and ask them what Brussels has done for UK fishing.
By:

...aaaaaaand who gave those 40% of your quotas to dutch and french companies again if it is the responsibility of the respective national governments to allocate them?
By:
edy
When: 13 Oct 16 17:52
right, the British Government allocated the quotas to those foreign companies instead of to smaller (or even big) british ones

Just another example of the EU being the scapegoat for national mismanagement. I really hope there's a hard brexit, meaning the EU can't be used as a scapegoat for everything anymore, and people finally realize it were actually national mishaps instead of primarily, or even at all, the EU's fault in a lot of cases.

is it down to our government that I have to put any bass back I catch at the bottom of my property between Jan-June? I can only take 1 a day between now and Xmas? probably is in your world LaughLaughLaugh
By:

Incredibly cute how you shift from mass dumpings to foreign vessels being everything that's wrong to now 1 bass a day.

1 a day sounds ok for recreational fishing, doesn't it? You do also realize that these things are not just something some tyrannical dude in the EU decides but that it's worked out and agreed upon together by the member states, right?

Either way, do you have profound reason to believe that the quota that was set for the sea bass is too low and the population would be sustainable, or even recover, if it was higher?
By:
edy
When: 13 Oct 16 18:20
These quotas aren't set to be mean to fishing people as far as I know after all. There is some thinking in regards to sustaining populations so that our sons can still go fish a sea bass. More than 1 a decade that is.
By:
edy
When: 13 Oct 16 18:28
btw, you might be interested in this from a EU press release regarding the sea bass quotas

Following a lack of agreement between Member States since 2012 on coordinated and effective measures to protect this important stock and another lack of agreement of EU ministers in December's Fisheries Council, on 19 December 2014 the UK made a formal request to the Commission to take emergency measures. The Commission then consulted the Member States involved and analysed the scientific evidence available. On the basis of discussions with all Member States and based on the scientific evidence the Commission has taken its own decision.

So, ironically, it was actually down to your government that you have to put your bass back between january and june and 1 a day between july and december. Have to take my criticism back about it after finding that out. It was a environmentally friendly thing to do from your government and certainly not lazy.

no I mentioned the bass situation on my very first post, and I will take the word on our stocks from those who make a living from fishing and regular anglers not someone from Brussels. cheers.

What about the UK government requesting the emergency measures on sea bass quotas being reduced to sustain the population, as pointed out in my latest post?

I also believe that the scientists researching the populations and calculating which levels of fishing would enable sustainability do not necessarily live in Brussels.

From bigmo's link

"Finally, all Member States agree that the cost of a deal that makes
leaving the EU look like a viable alternative to membership far
outweighs the cost of new trade barriers. This simple calculation
is likely to be the guiding principle of their negotiation."

So, essentially, if millions of people lose their jobs because there's no free trade then f*ck 'em. It's beyond me why anyone in their right mind wants to be part of this organisation.

the economic consequences will be much more devastating if the EU allows the UK to cherry pick all the best pieces and consequently others follow suit, completely destroying the EU and single market. Losing the UK to a hard brexit will not be nice for either side, but manageable.

Either way, you guys are the ones who started this with you guys being willing to make people lose their jobs because you lose single market access, i.e free trade with the EU. I believe it is also the UK's government current stance that "either we get our will or screw you guys, screw single market" (i.e if people lose their jobs, f*ck em)

Partly, if I may say so, out of pure scapegoating mentality regarding things like sea basses.
