I'm afraid there's no way back for Ian Mohammed after the revelations on this thread.

Whatever faint scintilla of credibility he may have once had was, of course, fatally smashed by the catastrophic "Welcome Refugees" thread. (He would have actually gained some respect had he given it the more honest title 'Welcome Refugees, But Not In My Nice House In My Nice Village').

The cringeworthy and self-humiliating "Blocking" (but still reading every line) action is something else again. A shameless and embarrassing new low.

No way back to credibility.

This was a rather good Channel 4 documentary from that period.

A documentary about the late former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, which could be criticised for being an uncritical hommage rather than a balanced view of her premiership. Most of the negative impacts caused by the fundamental changes she brought to Britain have been "elegantly" omitted, but her motives, her basic believes, her encouraging message and everything positive she stood for are beautifully summarised and one understands why despite her errors and some misjudgement she could be praised as a great and visionary politician who not only changed Britain for the better (on balance) but had an influence on the world like few other politicians can claim.

"Documentary" sounds like it was pushing it just a bit.

Regarding the "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" song, as everyone will recall, there was a successful campaign amongst supporters of the British Left to get this song high into the pop/download charts after Thatcher died. (Ditto Elvis C's remarkable 'Tramp The Dirt Down', and there may have been others).

As history tells us, many many thousands of (mainly young) left-leaning people chose to buy these songs at the time, spending around 50p or so each time for the pleasure.

Would the large sums of money have been better spent by these lefties on causes that they believe in (or perhaps more accurately, pretend to believe in), such as giving aid to the poorest people in the UK or abroad?

Would it have been better to spend the umpteen thousands of pounds, for example, on Food Aid for the millions of children in the North of England starving to death, or to give it to already-rich tax-avoiding Big Businesses?

Given the choice of helping the disadvantaged, or wearing their hatred proudly, the lefties naturally chose the latter.

Aah, the voice of the privileged telling the poor plebs how they should and should not spend their money. Twas ever thus. Maybe they just thought it was a giggle and well, 50p is a fair price for a bit of a laugh.

privileged     LaughLaughLaugh you obviously know something I don't !  I'm certainly looking forward to this silver spoon inheritance or gilded-cage existence whenever it comes though.

Perhaps Ed M, the Labour leader of the time should have himself stepped in and directed these deranged people to donate the money to a cause that the Left liked to pretend to support. "Help For Heroes" perhaps.

Maybe personal music choice isn't the decision of politicians at all*. Just a thought.

Amazing. Porky must be one of the few lefty's who don't want to cosh people on the head, turn them upside down and shake them until every penny has been taken for the collective good. Suddenly now it suits we have in all seriousness a lefty espousing choice, individualism and liberty.

He must be Diane Abbott's privately educated son.

Perhaps you could address the issue of why the left seek to micromanage peoples lives but only when it suits and they ignore their principles when it comes to themselves? I remember a famed socialist on the politics forum refusing to donate additional money to government to help out because they spend money inefficiently. Didn't stop him advocating soaking the "rich" though.

Pssssst. Whatever you do EO, pleeeeease don't mention that fine Socialist 'thinker' Tony Benn and his infamous Inheritance Tax Dodge.  Acts like this are ONLY for the "Disgusting Tory Tax Avoiders".

For all those other fine Socialists who want to emulate the late Tony Benn's tax-efficiency, here's an article to show you how. Everyone needs helpful handy hints.

I've no desire to debate every Socialist policy. However, the very fact I'm on a betting forum should give even the thickest of you some clue about my views regarding how I should spend my money.

BTW the people seen on tv partying at the time of Mrs Ts death looked like they'd sacrificed the cost of a bar of soap to pay for their 'bit of a laugh' Porky.

Big difference between both actions mac. The partying shown on the tv was embarrassing and what you might expect of a third world country.
I saw Sheridan at one, in Ayrshire I think it was, drinking champagne. What a cheek that lying hypocrite has criticising anyone.
