Well poor people of every other generation could manage it well enough. What is wrong with what she says. The amount most people spend on food is ridiculous and its easy to prove how cheap it is possible to eat well for yet no politician ever gets involved in the discussion. You see why now.

Couple of things.

I had a girl lodging with me a few years back, clearly from a not terribly well off background. I bought an electric steamer (that sounds rude somehow) and suggested she used it, as she essentially lived off chips, and was clearly not very healthy. I didn't put it like that obviously. Her reply was "I don't believe in steaming food, it takes all the goodness out of them." I tried to point out to her that this was nonsense but she wasn't having any of it, it was her right to have an opinion, she said. I had to kick her out in the end because she 'couldn't' pay her rent. My point is that she was betrayed by teachers and who knows who else who told her that her views were just as valid as anyone else's, even if they were doctors and scientists.

I have a couple of lodgers who eat two pizzas a day, every day. They grimace when I make a casserole. It costs them only 2.50 a day each, but they could eat so much better for less.

My mate...ok this is three things now...was dating a girl who wouldn't eat the yolk from fried eggs. Or well...anything else other than Domino's...which is bloody expensive.

Give the relatively poor vouchers for healthy food. The poor in the UK are not poor in any meaningful sense. They don't have to get up at 5am, go **** in a field, and then walk five miles to get some water.

Maybe they can't afford to switch on the cooker. Or if they do, they go cold because they can't afford to heat the house. It's one or the other. Imagine living like that, and having to make those choices.

It's only pointless if you don't care about other people. If you are wanting money to go to help the needy, you would recognise that taxes spent on saving people's lives, here or abroad, is better than keeping the unemployed in ****.

Maybe they didn't receive the education you did. Maybe they didn't grow up in family environment that taught domesticity
Maybe they are dysfunctional through living a life of total hell.

Facts believes all the poor are so thick they cant compare prices of different food items. In all he posts it shines through that he thinks they are totally useless and need help with every simple task, no doubt by Govt paid workers.

If only he had faith in them as human beings and encourage them to take some responsibility for managing their lives.

Had she not generalised the ppl whom need the educating to have been 'the poor' she may well have had a point.

If you allow enterprise to invest large sums of capital in the manufacture of fake food that's purposely full of fat and sugar and blanket advertised on slots where the daft are most likely to be exposed to it, under the pretence that all business is good business and should be allowed to operate under the banner of being part of an open freely operating market economy then you will always have the problem we have.

From my experience the whole not knowing how to cook and generally being a useless fck eating **** is spread across the whole social spectrum.
When I was single I certainly had my very evil way with a few young ladies because I could cook way way better than them and I’d invite them around for dinner, after that they weren’t going anywhere......



Oh yeah facts you tard , real poverty is real poverty regardless geographic location. Redefining it based on location is just relative poverty which ain't REAL poverty.

Baroness Jenkin later clarified her remarks on BBC Radio 4's World at One programme, and apologised if she caused offence.

She can apologise and clarify as much as she likes but it won't change the fact what she said was, in fact, true and needs to be addressed in an open manner.

Many people from all social strata think cooking (to use a Frank Skinner quip) consists of just making food hotter. Cookery programmes are all over the TV schedules and they range from Blumenthal digging a 6 foot hole in his back garden with a JCB to emulate a traditional tandoori oven to Ready, Steady, Cook. People watch them and then go and stick a pizza in the microwave, seemingly incapable of reconciling the food they have just seen cooked on the telly to their own.

is home economics no longer part of the school curriculum?
