I would convert to anything by those rules

ebulGery, I'm not disagreeing with that. Live and let live is my philosophy and that includes letting people have their religious beliefs. I always respect other cultures and I even admire some of them. But respect works both ways and you can't allow any group to force their beliefs on others, silencing criticism, stifling debate, mistreating non-believers, disrespecting, persecuting, and in some cases killing, murdering or massacring innocents. The human race is on a knife edge, but it is balanced at the moment because of the distribution of power. If there is a shift of power towards the most dangerous intolerant groups, then the balance will be tipped and I fear we will be doomed as a species.

What a gullible fool Alias is. More has been achieved in the US alone in the last 100 years in science, art, literature, music, medicine, inventions etc than has been, or ever will be achieved in 1000 years in all islamic countries put together. For heavens sake try and think for yourself for once. 100 years ago the USA was only 50 years on from a civil war which ended slavery. However, you are so obviously hateful of anything Islamic. Maybe you're a racist too, but don't imagine that because there is so much trouble with extremists in the middle east that nothing good has ever arisen from Islamic countries or peoples. Moreover, the USA has its share of extremists of the Christian kind. Anyone with any knowledge of the world will spot easily the gullible fool. Christ man, you have no idea of the world, none at all. |

The trouble is Platini, religion (or the misuse/abuse of it) has always caused strife, and it seems there will always be those who are willing to try and impose their beliefs on others.

If there is a shift of power towards the most dangerous intolerant groups, then the balance will be tipped and I fear we will be doomed as a species. you have thought about this..but I will just add my comments 1. We have exaggerated the threat from the Middle East out of all proportion, they do not threaten us. 2. You will never make these people the same as us, any more we will become the same as them 3. If you look through history is always the larger nations who threaten smaller nations, not the other way round. 4. If Islam triumphs, that will only be because of the failure of our own values My advice is we only ever intervene on humanitarian grounds, that way we are on safe grounds. |

The big problem with Iraq is we removed Saddam Hussein.
because democracy does not work with these people. We have left them with no effective government, so of course chaos and violence reigns. This would happen with any society without effective government, including ours, if it ever happened here. Into these situation, come the most extreme groups such as Isis. So it is us who created the conditions that have enabled Isis to emerge. |
|
By:
What is the solution?
I believe Iraq must break into three parts..Shia, Sunni and Kurdish. Obama is trying to hold up democracy, even though he does not believe it was ever democracy. He thinks it was too Shia dominated, which led to Sunni dissatisfaction, which has led to Isis getting their foot in the door. So I do not know what will happen, I not sure Obama knows????? The US public will not accept any more US troops in Iraq, other than specialised forces. They have had a gutful of a place. Obamas latest statement was "it may take some time" I don't think he is kidding |

"Actually it's about 92%*, but for the purposes of making the point**, it makes little or no difference***, and I'd say that's pretty close**** and certainly not remote*****. "
*I'll put you out of your misery, the correct answer is 70-80%, though the actual practising is closer to 40% **you mean fabricating statistics and facts? ***yes, you do seem indifferent to facts and reality ****maths is not a strongpoint for you *****not even remotely close, you half-witted decking imbecile "You should also remember your capitals." an infantile and desperate attempt to wrestle back some dignity? well if it makes you feel better then by all means chum. |

Yes Britain played its part in both recent and more distant past with regard the problems in the Middle East.
Whether you agreed with the reasoning or not, the end result was the removal of tyranny meant these problems came to a head. Brutal and barbaric acts were being carried out wide scale by the dictatorial governments until then. This suggests to me that the adage that democracy is wasted on many of them is true, on the basis that democracy doesn't have a place in their potent blend of nutty religion and blatant corrupt control of slightly different sectarians. IMO its true that it's where they are in evolution, which happens to be around 700 years behind for the most part. They do have to settle their own civil wars, but with modern weapons and technology that could mean total annihilation, so the person with the biggest pot of money takes control......that's arguably where WE went wrong. |

an infantile and desperate attempt to wrestle back some dignity? well if it makes you feel better then by all means chum. Spot the "infantile" comment. ![]() PS I stick by my figures. In any case the point is made. |

It doesn't matter one whit whether they're practising or not. The point of my original remark was the manner in which conversion was achieved during the conquest. Oh, and there's nothing miserable about me. ![]() |

no they are NOT dusty, it is only in science and technology they trails us They are a different culture, they can never be like us, any more than we can be like them The only reason we try we try to make them like us, is so we can exploit them, or the US does now This country just follow the US. The only reason the US does this is out of total self interest Although I do give us the right to intervene on humanitarian grounds, ie genocide, but little else |
|
By:
The US is trying to create a world governed by survival of the fittest capitalism
because by these rules it knows it will win things like economic equality are an anathema to the US, they oppose this sadly we now do the same |
|
By:
What we seem not to understand, it is impossible for these people to be like us
they are a different culture They needed Saddam, Gadhafi , Assad that chap in Egypt, because it is impossible for them to be democratic. Our attempt to make them so, has left utter chaos, with no control or even the rule of law and order. Never ending civil war in Syria and Iraq. Into this chaos emerges groups like Isis, that is predictable. The same as when democracy collapsed in Germany, in came the Nazis Because only the most extreme groups can control them at such times This is all very sad. The sooner we leave the Middle East alone to be what they want to be the better In fact what they have to be, they have little choice, it is what they are. |
|
By:
Too a degree I would agree with much of that.
But the very notion that they need dictatorial 'leadership' to keep them in line shows a savagery that stopped here centuries ago. Politics and their religion don't mix and they are extremely backward looking in culture. That's not to say Muslims are bad people, but you will find a malignancy within their nature that will attempt to control by force the very people they live alongside. |

dustybin i agree with much of what you say however your last post was grammatically incorrect ;you should have started it with To not Too.

Trying to force Democracy on countries all over the world is wrong and complete arrogannce by western powers. Look of the state of all those countries now, particularly in Africa, the Middle East and the Russian states. Gadaffi, Sadam, Stalin et al were all brutal dictators, but at least people could live peacefully as long as they towed the line. These poor people can`t even go out for a cup of coffee now without the fear of being blown up. One could also visit these countries and one`s personal safety never entered ones mind, but now, I wouldn`t visit any of them, even if I got paid to do so. God forbid China goes the same way. Democracy is over rated and one of the most corrupt political systems ever devised.

Its not about pushing for democracy, the stopping of genocide is it.
Whether you agreed with Iraq 1 or 2, that doesn't mean that by default you now say we then shouldn't stop degeneracy. |
|
By:
As crude as it may sound I cant see the problem, surely nobody actually agrees with what ISIS stand for?
So why not tomahawk 'em or remote control 5hit on em from another country? |
|
By:
Just to conclude, if people honestly think that by staying out ISIS will look favourably on 'us' you are mistaken, the only reason they arnt attacking us is because they cant.

What ebul dosn't understand is that in these countries the average person dosn't want a Sunii islamic state.
They are at the mercy of barbaric and bloodthirsty people who see a chance for power. It is always the same when yhe uneducated masses get control. Make no mistake this can happen anywhere in the world. |

no such fekin' thing as democracy as far as uncle sam is concerned. The only motives they have when interfering in other lands are for self gain. they are liars, always have been, always making the other side out to be the guys in black hats while they feck every country the world over. Opportunism, greed, terror and deat follw their every move, the cia have been involved in more shenanigans than all of the Islamic groups put together but; the real powers that be aren't just related to the usa. World events are being shaped for the benefit of the elite. No need to explain, but these people caue nearly all of the major conflicts.

Yep, send them an email and ask them nicely if they'll gather in a designated square mile somewhere in the middle of the desert so they can be immolated. ![]() |

sounds a fair solution

well by the footage I saw they seem happy to release projectiles to take out just 2 'combatants'.
Ofc the gulf war idea of tomahawks is probably dated...in fact definitely will be, their contemporary incarnation will still have a role, but there is absolutely no denying drones will hit hard with next to no collateral damage whatsoever. (I dont much like the fact Im agreeing with american army types, but there cant really be anything wrong with hitting the target that are firing on innocent people....as apposed to gaza where people fire out of desperation imo) Like I said, send in the robots. |
