I slept through the 1987 storm. I lived on the 14 floor of a tower block at the time. When I got downstairs to go to work the council workers corrugated tin hut was gone
and there were two large trees blocking the road. |

It's my living as well MC but much harder that it was.

you're still making a regular wage though Kenny , or do you take a more long term approach ?
tbh i seem to start every season terribly & claw it back then push the boat out late season (football) ? |
|
By:
Have you tried tennis trading ?
|
|
By:
I only trade tennis when the major tournies are on Ayers , but am not a big fan of it tbh
|

I'd die of malnutrition if gambling was my income
![]() |
|
By:
I wouldn't say it's a guaranteed income these days MC. Long term approach. No, I just make what I can on a day to day basis but it's not been great for several months.Lack of liquidity doesn't help.
|
|
By:
you don't have to be, it's very easy lock in profit on tennis quickly

With respect the topic heading seems misleading as not winning is the problem rather than the lifestyle that goes with gambling.
Read a few of your posts moonbeam where you said you had made a decent amount of money playing poker. Probably more than you could have made in a normal job. The downside is you cant plan your finances very long term as its a mistake to think that things will be same in the future as they have been in the past. |
|
By:
The main liquidity is created by bots Ken it can be very misleading
I'm not quite sure what you mean paddletoe , i admit the lifestyle isn't great but wasn't that i was moaning about (but maybe it has an impact - i get very bored and lonely - which may lead to pressure & mistakes ) I have made good money but i was well aware that the poker was a very good time so i worked the hours & took full advantage of it while it lasted , poker's very tough just the same nowadays to a point i wish i could just quit it all |
|
By:
should read "im so fed up with loosing"
|
|
By:
losing*
|
|
By:
kind of agree with paddletoe, it's like you mold the rest of your choices in life based on the fact you *need* to gamble to get an income.
|
|
By:
but i do need to pay bills etc erse ?
and when you have money in the bank nobody at all will help you what else can i do , go to friggin uni , may as well just die ![]() |
|
By:
Mc surely if you can earn a living without having to work you are way ahead of the game.Would you swap for a life as a shelf stacker?
|
|
By:
Moonbeam, I know it's easy to give advice and harder to take it, but I;ve read a lot of your post about your circumstances and it's quite obvious you need to do something bold and drastic because you;re obviously not happy and Ii get the feeling a lot of it is down where you live, you don't seem happy there, is there no chance you can move whatsoever ?
|

theres a spare hammock in bitos bedsit witrh his name on it

If your continually losing its not much of a line of work where you "work" 40-50 hours a week and end up with less money at the end of the week than you had at the beginning of the week.
Not the end of the world. As you said you have money in the bank. Just find another way of making money. Even if it means getting a proper job. |
|
By:
I was ahead of the game Dobbo yes , you have to be to make the money , but the game catches up with you pretty fast
No course i wouldn't stack shelves , the fact is i couldn't get a half decent job nowadays so i'm stuck with my tedious life I'd actually rather go skint long term & live as a drifter if it came to it , life sucks whatever you try & do |
|
By:
Playing poker is as boring as stacking shelves when you've done it for so many years
Ayers i've not long moved & bought a flat , but no i'm not happy here either , i will try & sell it next year but then where do i go , life is just a cruel trap ! |
|
By:
What's it like where you live if you don't mind me asking? is it full of trouble or just plain boring?
|

Hope you have not come on here for sympathy Moonbeam because your story is not very sympathetic. Anyway you don't need sympathy. You need a good kick up the backside. Other players are allowed to get better. You have a good few quid in the bank by your own admission and your bought a house with cash.
If gambling ( well not winning to be exact ) is making you unhappy that's understandable. You should stop gambling for a while at least and focus your mind on other things without your personality and mood being defined by how good a day you had gambling. When gamblers hit a losing streak they enter the threshold of misery where losing does not hurt so much. Not much difference losing £5000 than it is losing £4000. But if you stopped gambling for a while you would appreciate that extra £1000 a lot more. Anyway its not just about the money. |
|
By:
it's cr^p , both really Ayers but i don't know anybody here so never bother going out & i don't want to meet new friends here
I don't continually lose , i have been losing but i can win it back over time , but i do think ahead & it isn't much of a life unless you're making thousands , even then you don't have any time to yourself , i don't enjoy anything anymore i just eat , sleep a bit , gamble ... and survive |
|
By:
I don't want sympathy but i'm completely fed up with life & just can't see a way out paddletoe
I struggled for years even when i was making the money (like you say it's not all about money) and i didn't buy a house (i should of) but i bought a cheap flat so i didn't have to rent (i can't do anything right even with the money) |
|
By:
all a matter of perspective and how you frame things
I would say go and see a really top therapist like Jonathan Jenkyn, not cheap but in a few sessions he would totally change how you view things nothing wrong that you cannot fix by taking action, most of what's wrong is learned emotional patterns you've been banging on like this for years, decide if you want to change then change quickly does not have to be slow and painful |
|
By:
> but i do need to pay bills etc erse ?
well yeah, usually. all i'm saying is your position isn't unique, yet plenty other people don't find themselves in a quandary 'cos they can't make money sitting at home on a PC. |
|
By:
very true rick , but how do i change it ?
I'm not even sure what to aim for nowadays , i've read/watched tons of self help books/videos , they inspire me for a while but then i lose hope again , was it you that recommended the Richard Bandler book ? Life just makes you feel like a loser with no job , imo |
|
By:
you need help, I would start with something like this
http://www.opt2b.co.uk/ |
|
By:
don;t think you should be paying any therapist for anything it might start off as free but after that...
You're obviously bright enough to make money and you are bright enough to know how to change the social aspect, you know whats wrong you dont need to pay someone to tell you what to do to change it |
|
By:
I'm glad you posted that actually Ayers , as yes i'd like to think i'm smart enough
![]() Rick's a smart guy too , but i read that book before & didn't seem to help me at all , i can't see the big thing about NLP really , if it can't help me by reading then how will it help me in person .. I've read lots of other stuff too , it's true that thoughts manifest into things for better or worse & i'm not thinking well lately , but too many problems can really keep you down I need to change my entire life & i can't just do that quickly ![]() |
|
By:
well I do, you have developed a self defeating pattern of behaviour which is only reinforcing itself
you have had no end of advice, support and suggestion but have made no progress in the two years or so that I've seen you start dozens of threads exactly like this and you claim to have used lots of books and tapes to try and change without success I am a professional therapist myself and I am advising you to go and find someone to work with. The NHS has a thing called the Wellbeing Service or you could seek someone yourself. I would recommend a really good 'content free' hypnotherapist or practitioner of NLP to help break these patterns you've got into read the link to the site I posted |
|
By:
Judorick, what he really needs is a good women, or any women
![]() Good night ![]() |
|
By:
I read the link
I have tried to make progress & have moved & bought a flat in that time , but it only makes matters worse for me , my life's a mess & i'd like to end it I'd like to see somebody but as erse & paddletoe say i wouldn't get much sympathy from the NHS sitting there telling them my story would i .... and what are 'these self defeating patterns i've gotten into' are they the same self defeating patterns that made me the money in the first place or is money not an issue ![]() |

Moonbeam
What is the saddest thing that has ever happened to you? |
|
By:
lots of things Angel , but being used & mainly not mattering to anybody makes me sad , the world's full of bastards , friends , family , parents etc included
|
|
By:
being brutally honest, it just sounds like self-pity and staying in your comfort zone.
you make $ online cos it's easiest for you and preferable to the alternatives, but you don't feel rewarded for it and the returns are getting smaller. the logic on these threads always seems circular and drawn to the idea "need money, need to gamble, hate gambling". you're just being your own worst enemy and occassionally come on here to get someone to convince you otherwise. |
|
By:
not really erse
it's never been 'easy money' i've struggled all my life & gambled seriously since i left school so i took it seriously & tried to make something out of it for myself i don't have alternatives like you probably have , it's easy for you to say 'go get a job' but there aren't any when your not qualified to do anything , so is all that i'm good at |
|
By:
so it's really
- i'm digging a hole - asking why you're in the hole - saying you don't like being in the hole - continuing to dig the hole anyways, best of luck finding something you find more fulfilling. ![]() btw I left school and became self-employed, learnt pretty much everything off my own bat. |
