On this I have to disagree Dusty
We need to get real. The EU is the fat diabetic old man of the world economy - eaten too much during the good centuries. We need to get fitter or die trying. One problem is Germany....you see they are still very competitive are they not ![]() The EU did run up too much debt, but everything would have been ok if it were not for the Credit Crunch, that is what has broken the World economy. That came from America are women entering the workplace really benefitting us . Some do of course, those with ability and intelligencebut that is by no means all...in fact all men hardly fit that description and as for making us fitter and leaner, that is hardly going to put money into the economy is it I totally agree with you about the Tories though This country has to compete against the rest of the World that is for sure. But to do that everybody has to have a sense of duty. It is not just about creating a totally vicious society of competition and nothing else. That is in fact our mistake, but I know we wont change...we are a terminally divisive society...and despite some people trying the right thing....I believe we are finished..but hope I am wrong just some thoughts tbh, I don't have the answer, unfortunately I know there is no government we can elect which has either ![]() but it is their job, not mine |

That is where I think you are wrong EG. “ Ask not what has this country has done for me, but what I can do for my country!” OK maybe I'm being a little pedantic with that quote, but what I'm saying is that there is a political party that was designed specifically to move the common man forward from serfdom to equal members of society along with the land owning toffs of the past.
The Labour Party may have lost its way catastrophically during the Blair years but don't throw the baby..... It is only the working man/women & traditional core supporter of Labour that can turn it back to where it should be and no matter how tiring the process that is what working people up & down this country must do. That process has already begun and no matter how old or tired you may feel you have the same responsibility to try and improve conditions for ordinary citizens as the working man has always had. “ Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin' Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin' Bob Dylan |

You should know RCT, posting a pic of a swimming tortoise along with your ridiculous username - neither of which makes any sense!

On a thread about people on benefit being ostracised, marginalized & made scapegoats for the Tory banking fraudsters - "Were Sorry" said 'Fred the Shred' & his 'We made a killing' mates while collecting their multi-million pay off's.
Swimming turtles/tortoises are not a logical addition to the debate. Go hug a tree! Obviously a lib/dem! |

Yes, there are people that want handouts....."something for nothing"......There are also grafters.....Those who aren't afraid to put in 50, 60,or even 100+ hours per week "people who agree with the principle "something for something"..... These grafters, our salt of the earth, are being crucified by this abominable coalition.....Tories by their unremitting greed, and the Lib Dems by their unremitting stupidity.

It was Brown and Darling that socialised the losses, let's not let them off.
|
|
By:
Coincidentally after Brown and Darling had socialised the losses of the British banks the rest of Europe followed suit and also the US.
It didn`t matter what colour tie these men had around their necks, the banking `packages` would have happened. Even the left understand the importance of the banking sector for British success, could any government afford for it to crash? in reality. |
|
By:
That is true, but it was Blair and Brown who had been responsible for regulating the banks for 11 years before the crash.
They allowed an economic bubble because either because it was politically expedient or because Brown was so arrogant he really did think that he'd tamed the entire economy. There's no excuse, whichever it was. It's also entirely Labour's fault that the national debt and deficit got so bad. |
|
By:
Quite.
It was Brown who continually claimed to have ended boom and bust, millions believed him. |
|
By:
He did end boom and bust!
Boom has gone up in smoke! ![]() |
|
By:
Remember also that politicians cant put the genie back in the bottle.
Before the crash Labour wouldnt have got back in while self (de) regulation was seemingly working. How could any politician get voted in saying 'yes things are good but we plan to restrict the good times because things might crash badly'? Now we know the truth that self regulation doesnt work because the greedy just get greddier behind closed doors and people will listen now. |

greedier

"just get greddier behind closed doors and people will listen now"
They won't. In 5 years it will be distant memory while the electorate are lapping up another credit boom and demanding increased public services but not wanting to pay more tax. And of course, the politicians of the day will agree to get voted in and we'll start again. |
|
By:
well we can all guess when the next inevitable crash occurs (as they seem unavoidable) but the point is now they've had the kick in the bolux it will remain in the mind (even for a time while people think they are god again like the spivs from the 80s)

16 Oct 13 20:23 Swimming turtles/tortoises are not a logical addition to the debate. Go hug a tree! And guess who brought up the subject of RCT's avatar ![]() ![]() Northernutjob is a self-confessed dyslexic who can't spell anyway, and told us some months ago that he doesn't not use a spell checker. I don't read all the waffling from Menelaus, but I have never spotted a spelling mistake in anything of his that I have read. Combine that with the fact they both got banned at the same time, and one came back a week before the other to allay suspicion. You never see them have a cross word with each other either. This amounts to definitive proof that NL and Menelaus are the same poster. |

Don't take this the wrong way, but I take it that you aren't a scientist, mathematician, or even a lawyer. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

You're not wrong, but neither am I.

One day certain people on these forums may get around to addressing the topic instead of other posters.

Yes you are, and I'm not, unless you actually are a scientist, mathematician or lawyer. You said you had definitive proof that NL and Menelaus are the same poster on the strength of his posts. You don't. Not that I really give a sh*t. |

We have the media on overdrive trying to paint a negative picture of anyone on benefits, every channel including the bbc making shows about the workshy(minority) instead of those trying their best. 99% of the press using the same tactic, every columnist doing the same. When do we start hearing about unemployed people being beaten up purely because they are unemployed?? That is the way we are heading. I think that's what the tories would like. What about the Fraudloughers? |
|
By:
I escaped them. Went self-employed. The don't have any jobs at the job centre?? It's classic George Orwell.
If you want to work join a job agency and they take a percentage. When I ducked oit they made you register online and sign in daily with a record of your activities. Tracking yourself? Your advisor? Is a tormented Ss oofficer wannabe . We are prisoners. On a planet of madmen run by Satan. We are to work hard. Head down . Make more prisoner babies . Eat pain. Eat frustarvation. Be abused. By authoritarian arsee. Everything you deal with authority is a nightmare. Schools.doctors.work.police. Etc . They give us forms as cLear as mud. Now they don't give us forms. We have to search a website. I dnot want the internet. I was using the library computers and covid blew it up. It's the authorities **** the planet now. Telling us to do stuff globally. Brexit forgotten. One world agenda coming in. They fforce a riot. Clamp down. Suddely you are in cuffs. The illusion of being a citizen gone. The Jews know it. They will be attacked again. bible says two thirds will be killed. Another ten bmillion. For a reason. To stop Jesus . Earth will unite to stop god. To prop up a prison. Save our jail. Save the system. I must work hard and pay tax. Bunch on crazy people. Death our big fear. Bring it on. Is our way out of this hell on earth. Yes in some places on earth are some nice zones. But in Syria,Libya,,Venezuela, Sudan, and a hundred other hotspots it's hell on earth. |
