If you read the book you will find at no point does it say that they killed Madeleine.

The conclusion has always been accidental death.

I certainly would not have left my daughters like that at that young age.  You have no idea the worry and concern that a parent goes through.
Even now, although my children are grown up, we both think they are almost incapable of crossing the road on their own!!!!  You do worry about them all the time.  Don't know what the mcann's attitude was to child care but they sure fkd up here.  As for going on the p!ss and leaving them ... well I struggle to defend that!!!

There is still the issue of the cadaver dog which alerted at all things McCann and nowhere else. This dog was used by the FBI.

Personally, I favour the McCanns' version of events. The reasons for this are simple: I simply don't believe that they could have have carried out what seems to be the almost perfect crime. I can see no reason at all for murder...so that would only leave accidental. So, bearing that in mind, do you really think that they have somehow managed to hide all the evidence from the press, from the locals, from their friends and from the police?
Remember that you are saying that this is an accident and you are SUDDENLY faced with this problem.
Of course, some will say their friends could have been involved. Would that be because they were relatively wealthy?
Perhaps you would like to call it murder. Seems a bit strange to do it in an area you know little about. Why not do it at home?
Lastly, of course, there is the possibility that THEIR story is true. They went for a meal with friends and one of their children vanished. Yes, there were things that they could have done and things that they SHOULD have done. But I think their never-ending pressure to keep this case in the public eye indicates one thing only...they don't know where their daughter is.

Thousands have left their kids alone????
I don't know anyone who would leave 3 kids all 3 or under alone to go drinking.
In an unlocked apartment in a foreign country night after night, beggars belief.
Nobody knows what happened although the kidnapping theory seems most likely.
If she was kidnapped then the mccanns sure made it easy for the snatchers.

Abduction is probably easier to achieve, especially if the investigation isn't thorough from the start.
I don't imagine that much time would be lost if, for example, she was 'stolen to order'. Apparently, that my does happen more in these poorer countries.
By:

does happen more in these countries,so after 50 years of millions of pished up holidaymakers in strange countries leaving kids unattended in swimming pools, beaches, pubs, nightclubs etc ,
whats the running total of murdered or snatched kids

The Portuguese police didn't cover themselves in glory with a haphazard investigation, especially in the early days.
I think that's why they tried to blame the mccanns. Diverted attention away from them.

yup well said - the world is full of sad people who get used by conspiracy theorists and pseudo-journalists to make a good living.

if these kids are stolen to order they must be pretty hopeless at it, yet here in a quiet out of season resort they,ve sauntered of with 1 left 2 behind and not left a clue,if there that good there,d hae waltzed off with 1oo,s of kids or this stolen to order is a complete myth
if she was taken by paedo,s she,d have served her purpose lng ago and therefore they,d need some fresh blood ,how many complaints of attempted abductions have been made, how many kids have complained about been approached, the snatched, kidnapped theory doesnt stand up ,you have to admit the accidental death theory is far more plausible
By:

When: 06 Oct 13 19:12
The plausibility  of the accidental death theory depends on them finding the body , then being composed enough after the shock of that, to dispose of it where it will not be found by a huge search , in an unfamiliar country , without anyone seeing them do it , and then turn up at the tapas place 12 hours later like nothing had happened.

When: 06 Oct 13 20:40
According to the accounts the McCanns gave to the Portuguese Police,  Kate McCann ran down to the Tapas restaurant to inform the rest of their friends that Madeleine was missing. That is just incredible, why did she choose to leave the twins alone to raise the alarm, when she could have remained with them and used her mobile, or shouted for help ? Someone could have been hiding in the apartment or nearby and snatched them as well when she back to the restaurant.

Surely if you thought one had just been snatched the very last thing you would do is leave the other 2 alone straight, really beggars belief.  But several odd things about this case that don't add up.

a child being accidentally killed by their parents is extremely unlikely does not mean it didn't happen.

a child being abducted from a locked building by a complete stranger is also extremely unlikely.

far more unlikely than the former.

about 250 children die each year in the uk from accidental causes. one, maybe 2, are abducted by strangers each year.

as is often the case in comparing considering two low probability events, it's their relative probabilities that counts, not the individual probabilities.

any who categorically rules out the parents in the case is the irrational one, not the other way around.

What you have to compare is cases where the child has disappeared altogether .

In those, how many turn out to be accidental deaths covered up by the parents and how many are stranger abductions?

I'd guess overwhelmingly the latter.

i just read the book "the truth about the lie"..........the possibility that she was not abducted but died in the apartment and the mccanns disposed of her body.........the irish family who claim they saw a man carrying a child.......this is the key to the total investigation for me. i am fascinated about this information. i was not aware of this info before. apologies regarding my previous post "anyone who thinks the maccanns did it should be in a mental hospital"........this is not to say i think they did it...........I HAVE NO IDEA.......but this info is the key.

The McCanns seem to be the type who lock their valuables in a safe, have extra house and car insurance, but leave their kids in an unlocked apartment while they went go out on the lash.

They get no sympathy from me whatsoever.

As for the child, if she was kidnapped by a paedo-ring, she's probably dead by now.

If she was kidnapped to replace a child lost by a family, she's probably getting better looked after than she was by her 'parents'.

If it's the latter, I hope they don't find her.

they left their kids alone and there are thousands that have done that - david cameron left his kid at a pub not so long ago, had to drive back when he remembered, not sure whats worse

ffs Ayres that was a cheap shot. There is absolutely NO comparison.  Cameron thought his child was with his wife, his wife thought she was with Cameron.  As soon as they realised what had happened they went back to find their daughter.  Compare that against the mccanns who night after night left 3 very small children in a strange room so they could go out and eat and drink.... even when they were told by their child that she'd woken up in the night, scared because she couldn't find her parents!

Every time their smug, entitled faces pop up on my tv the only person for whom I have sympathy is Madeleine and her siblings.

All of this "she's been taken by a paedophile" is so convenient - there is absolutely NO proof of that.  As others have said, it could just have easily have been an accidential death, and perhaps only one parent knows the truth.

completely agree, and once you start that sort of lie, how the hell do you stop... particularly if only one parent actually knows what happened.

Why are there faces smug though? as far as anyone knows they are innocent as it stands, two parents who have lost a child so to say they are smug is pretty ridiculous to say the least

Both of the Camerons were so lax in looking after their kid, they drove away without even double checking where she was, at least the mccans knew where madeline was.

The truth is this, paedophile gangs exist, they operate in sizeable groups in many countries - kids have been abducted for years all over the place, so it's more than plausible she could have been taken by anyone - if she died accidentally, why would the mccans go to the great lengths to cover it up, at the very worse they could have been done for negligence, with a very short sentence if any, it wouldn;t have been like they purposely went out there way to kill one of their own kids, accidental death is just as convenient an argument as abduction, so why come down so heavily on one side.

As it stands, you are innocent until proven guilty.

Ayres, if you're reduced to comparing the Cameron's mistakenly leaving their child behind after a family meal with the McCanns who deliberately left three small child alone night after night...

you know you have no case.

I'm not ,that was a small part of what I was saying and i mentioned it twice in less than a day so hardly night after night, and only mentioned it a second time when you did

bottom line is they are innocent until proven otherwise, that's the case

I agree on GMcC being smug however I always see his wife as someone all but destroyed by this. Gerry did his self no favours with his behaviour in the days following Madaleine's disappearance. Playing tennis, jogging and there is a video of him laughing and joking with some of the other holidaymakers. Maybe that's the guys way of dealing with this but it came across badly as did his manner in some of his interviews like for instance when asked a question about the dogs finding cadaver evidence he replied "I don't know, ask the dogs"
One thing that always puzzles me is the behaviour of the Portuguese priest who the mccanns turned to. He stated that he wished he'd never met the mccanns and was then hurriedly relocated after making the statement and hasn't surfaced since.

BTW the Camerons didn't drive away, they walked through the common in separate groups  and both thought the other had the child.

I don't know if the McCanns are innocent or guilty of having more knowledge of the circumstances surrounding their daughter's disappearance. But I cannot think of a single question, not one, and I have tried, that I would refuse to answer in my desperation to find out what had happened to my child, let alone the 48 questions that Mrs McCann declined to answer.
