"I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann that I met that night carrying a child."

So said the man responsible for the e-fits. Strangely though this isn't getting a mention in the media.

When's the arrest?

Why are they saying this is new information?

The Portuguese Police had all this information.

They didn't release an e-fit picture because they knew

who it was.

Crimewatch Update

..........."We have had a big response from the public and we are following up some significant leads"

------------

It would be fantastic if the Met did unearth some new leads but if an e-fit is the best they can do then there isn't much hope.

DNA / forensic evidence could have solved this years ago, but the useless Portugese police and the reluctance of the McCanns (and friends) to cooperate at the time has put paid to that

Some shamefull posts on this thread.

Im no fan of the police but i honestly think that this will be solved. As said before, the answer is out there somewhere in the mass of information that has been collected. Its just a case of man hours in finding it.........whether you believe that is justifiable moneywise is your opinion but if it eventually takes a child killer/abductor off the streets then its money well spent.

Are some on here seriously suggesting just not bothering anymore with this case? What if the perpetrator (s) strike again in the future and another young life is lost? What if it transpires that they were in the system of the Mccann case and would have been caught had the investigation being kept up?

What's shameful is that it's taken over 2 years to come up with a "lead" that has been known about for 6 years. And then they ask to us identify a man by showing 2 completely different mock-ups. Today's events are farcical even by the standards that have been set so far in this case.

what shred of evidence is there to say she was ever taken?  Why is it more likely she was taken than just wandered off and drowned?  The mcCanns have always pushed for this "she was taken" scenario but there is absolutely no evidence. Isn't the truth of it that they've clung to that because it absolves them of any blame - it's all the bad people faults - nothing to do with us leaving three small children alone night after night after night.

Im sure your an expert on police investigations and how they should be run A_T

Let the Brit police do their thing and have a go, fair enough its not exactly the bombshell clue we all hope for but it might just prick someone's attention. We need to keep this in the public domain so people dont just forget. Dont think the Portugeuse police investigation was at all adequate or well run so there's a lot of stuff to sort through

Well, there is a witness who claims she saw a child being taken away by a man..........if she wondered away and drowned then its likelly that the sniffer dogs would have followed her scent to wherever......there's also a very good chance that a body would have been found. I dont doubt that the Mccanns were wrong to leave their children alone but some here see this as a clear indicator that they were involved somehow when all they are likely guilty of is neglect and niavity..........I think the abduction scenario is by far the most likelly to be honest. The truth needs finding even if you see it as only a 'potential' abduction............you cant take the risk of leaving this person out on the streets to do this again.

did police check if there was drugs/ tranquilisers, anaesthetic in the mcanns possession during the hols,  I reckon she was sedated by them and it all went wrong,  imo

If she's dead can't see there being any chance of it being solved if by solved we mean a conviction. Even if they get info. on someone who looks like the efit and was on the island at the time that would barely be enough to bring them in for questioning.

Agree stranger kidnap from a house is rare but kids getting into trouble when left alone only for no trace of them ever to be seen again i would guess is equally as rare................

I just dont buy the accidentally sedated theory to be honest. To remain that cool and dispose of a body in a foriegn country and to also bury it so that half of the portuguese search and rescue team cant find it in a ten day search................that would be some achievment.

And what about the woman who saw a child like Madeliene being taken away at the time it appears to have happened. And what about the other people who checked on Madeliene and saw her when they checked on her? Are they in on it too???

I cant imagine the Portugeuse police trawling through phone records to be honest.............. its a mamoth task. They wanted this out of the news quickly for the tourism interest not to be effected, they have no interest in a long investigation.

Lets not forget that Amoral, the lead investigator has been convicted of perjury in a child abduction case, basically for covering up for his colleagues who beat a confession from the family of a missing girl.

Well Jimmy then you have to accept that the dogs were wrong also. They searched through 40 apartments and only indicated in one place. Ditto with the cars. All very well for Gerry to say that dogs make mistakes ,but they were brilliant dogs who had a history of success in previous cases/

The Portuguese shelved the case because the McCanns and their friends refused to return to Portugal for a reconstruction. There was nowhere else to take the investigation. Witness Operation Grange working for over 2 years and coming up with nothing except this witness which has been known about for 6 years.

FFS lads, have any of you read into the case.

The guy who trained those dogs has said that they are only capable of detecting a dead body upto 28 days after its been there. The dogs searched the apartment and car 2 month after the disapearance. The car was hired a month after Madeliene disappeared...............are we really suggesting that they hid the body for a month and then snuck out under the glare of the worlds media to dispose of the body?????

Is that theory really more likelly than abduction??

I ask again, what about the woman who saw a child being carried away at the time the abduction would have occurred.............are you just ignoring this???

The DNA evidence found in the boot of the hire car was misinterpretted by the Portuguese police which led to Kate's arrest. FFS, they cant even interpret DNA evidence correctly, are we suppose to believe they are competent?

Whoever Gazo, the Mccanns friend saw 'an abduction'........

waiting to see what the new evidence says regarding a new witness. Either way, someone saw something that was likelly the abduction.......many people choose to ignore this in favour of focusing on the parents, presumably because they think the Mccans somehow deserve punishing for leaving the children alone.
