Anyone remember when the 'Irish family' remembered seeing the man carrying the child down the street?
IIRC it was quite some time later, maybe a couple of years later, and if so, why did it take them so long to come forward with this information.... or were they on another planet all that time? yes, good point YYW, and if what you're saying is sort of correct, would the police have been able to have covert sound surveillance on the McC's, or would that be illegal? |
|
By:
If that person really was Gerry McCann then Madeline was alive with him at the time. You might be able to accept some kind of accident happened and Madeline was killed by her parents but would he carry his daughter in his arms through town and then kill her and rush back to make up some other story. Ridiculous argument to think this person was Gerry McCann on the night in question.
it's a hard thing to say, but how would you know a sleeping child wasn't a dead child? If you see an adult walking through a resort town at night cradling an apparently sleeping child in their arms you don't suspect anything do you. |
|
By:
I bloody hope not. 6 years of surveillance of 6 different couples and the production of a Crimewatch in the hope that someone may expose themselves. The mind boggles at the amount of man hours and costs involved with that.
|
|
By:
the 15 minutes checking from all of the tapas 9 is highly suspect.
you don't turn down a babysitter or a creche, and then go out for a meal only to get up every 10 to 15 minutes to go and check on your children. particularly when the apartments are all in baby monitor range. it's just the absolute worst of both worlds. you want to go out and not worry, not go out and still be concerned enough to check every 15 minutes. it's a worse arrangement than staying in. they left them unattended for MUCH longer, as the Matthew Warner staff stated with Madeleine apparently calling out for her father for over an hour in a previous night. |
|
By:
"....no really new evidence shown on Crimewatch, is all this a case of giving the McCanns want they want in the hope they and/or their friends will finally expose themselves"
I would certainly have an open mind on it and not rule out anything. |

AN IRISH FAMILY IN A STATE OF SHOCK.
The McCann couple return to Great Britain after more than four months spent in the Algarve. It's an almost triumphant return. The media coverage is such that you'd think you were witnessing the liberation of hostages held for years in a far-off country. Gerald McCann is shown on television carrying his son, as he descends from the plane. The child's head is against Gerald's left shoulder and his arms dangling by his sides. Gerald walks across the tarmac, still holding his son closely against himself. In Ireland, the Smiths are watching the BBC news, which is broadcasting the event. For them, it's a shock: that person, they recognise him. That way of carrying his child, that way of walking...It's the man they saw at around 10pm on May 3rd, with a little girl, who seemed to be deeply asleep, in his arms. This image, brings back with a jolt, that of the man they encountered in the streets of Vila da Luz, on the evening of Madeleine's disappearance. It's as if the scene is repeating itself ....Mr Smith thinking he's hallucinating, sees the same report on other channels, ITV and Sky News. From that moment, he is sure: the man they came across that night was Gerald McCann. Of that there is very little doubt. Upset by the implications of this discovery, he alerts the police and waits to be called back by those in charge of the investigation. When we receive this information, at the end of September, we think we finally have the piece that will allow us to complete the puzzle. Because of this, we may be able to reconstruct the course of events on that cold night of May 3rd in Vila da Luz. We have a better understanding of why Jane Tanner, "sent," the alleged abductor in the opposite direction to that taken by the man seen by the Smith family. Suspicion had to be diverted from Gerald who - if he was the guilty party - would have taken this route: leaving apartment 5A, the individual who was carrying the child, did not go east, towards Murat's house, but west in the direction of the beach. We decide to get the Smiths back to the Algarve, for a formal identification of Gerry McCann - by means of televised images, certainly - direct confrontation being impossible - and possibly proceed to a reconstruction of the events of the night of May 3rd. The National Director of the Judiciary police agrees, the process is set in motion, all the details are sorted out; all that remains is to choose the hotel where they will be put up. But the Smiths were never to come back to Portugal. After my departure, the PJ were to change their minds. They asked the Irish police to proceed with interviewing the witness. That decision was to seriously delay the process since the Smiths were not interviewed until several months later. Meanwhile, rumours were to circulate and people not involved with the investigation would be made aware of the existence of this witness; someone allegedly even sought out contact with the family, without its being known to what end. |

If you believe this version of events and he was carrying a dead child what did he do with the body with so little time. How could he dispose of the body in a way it has not been found. And this is supposed to have happened at the same time other people in his party said he was with them. Were they all lying? |
|
By:
I'm against theory body carried thru streets
had to be put in some sort of vehicle |
|
By:
They did apply for authorisation to phone tap the couple but it was refused by the judge .
Also whats even more mind boggling is the British man who was carrying the child from the night crèche (Jane Tanners sighting ) has never in 6 years come forward to rule himself out. Had he not heard of the case ? |
|
By:
crimewatch
500 calls Two with same name e-fit he must owe them money |

This new evidence I think is bollox....
just a way to finally rid the case of Jane Tanners red-herring evidence, which has always been a sticking point IMHO. |
|
By:
Presumably I've missed it along the way, but I've never seen much of a suggestion that Madeleine went out of the window herself. Possibly to look for her parents given the fact she was crying the previous night when she didn't know where they were.
And surely the first reaction from any mother upon noticing her daughter was missing would be to scream out her name, probably several times. |

I know it sounds ludicrous but just consider it for a moment.. After waking the previous night Madeleine is heavily sedated by both parents. She has an allergic reaction, a seizure, something of that ilk and she dies. One of the Tapas 9 finds her, puts her on the floor (where the dogs indicated) and attempts CPR, but it's to no avail. Then they call Gerry, and the fact they're all doctors dictates what happens next. They can't involve anyone else because they know the sedative will be found - they have to get rid of the body. I know it seems incredible and heartless that a parent could do this to their own child - but what is the alternative? Both would be probably struck off, imprisoned in Portugal and their children likely taken into care. Nothing they can do can bring Madeleine back - so they look to the future. People often accuse consultants of arrogance, but actually I think it's self-preservation. If they make mistakes 5% of the time and people dies, perhaps they only way they can keep going is to focus on the 95% they save. So now they need a reason for the vanishing body and they decide on abduction rather than her just having wandered off because realistically how far can a 3 year wander? Abduction can run and run for years - as we're witnessing now. They partially open the windows and Gerry takes Madeleine and dumps her somewhere - drains, building works, the sea, those industrial bins that were collected the next morning - I doubt we'll ever really know. Then, and I know this seems incredibly callous, they leave Kate to discover what has happened. This is the bit that's always puzzled me - if you find your child not in their bed - surely the first reaction is to think she wandered off, but Kate knew that wasn't possible because of the sedation. She sees the open windows and thinks what Gerry and whoever hoped she'd think - that Madeleine was abducted and because of the sedation she didn't wake up. The visit to the Pope - weird, just weird - but perhaps not so weird if Gerry was looking for some sort of forgiveness in return for a promise to be the best father he could to the twins, the best consultant he could be. I've always felt the fact they were doctors meant they didn't, don't react like others. They know they can't bring Madeline back, it wasn't a deliberate killing, so they take what to us may be an immoral choice, but to them is simply the most logical. Once you start a lie like that, how on earth can you possibly stop. |

By:
why would a tapas 9 cover up finding a little girls body
|
|
By:
but what would telling people achieve xmoneyx?
It isn't going to bring her back, and it will ruin the lives of the McCanns, the twins, their extended family. Doctors do cover things up. |

this whole case seems to have become a political football, the portuguese police & the british police taking different views to prove their competency.what does seem obvious is that the mccanns & their mates havent given a true account of the fateful nights proceedings.whether that was simply to cover up the neglect of their kids or something more sinister we'll probably never find out due to the timelag.its interesting that at one time the vatican appeared to be taking a big interest in maddys alleged abduction through their website then it disappeared without trace.

The questions listed below form a record of the interrogation of Kate McCann conducted by Portuguese detectives investigating the disappearance of her three-year-old daughter Madeleine during a family holiday.
The questioning came after Mrs McCann was declared an arguido, or suspect, in September 2007. Mrs McCann used her right to remain silent and only answered one question. Her arguido status was lifted on 21 July this year. She and her husband have always denied any involvement in their daughter's disappearance. The police inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance was wound up last month due to a lack of evidence. 7 SEPTEMBER QUESTIONS TO KATE McCANN 1 On 3 May 2007 at around 2200, when you entered the apartment what did you see and do, where did you look, and what did you touch? 2 Did you look inside the wardrobe in the bedroom? She said she wouldn't answer. 3 (Shown two photographs of the wardrobe) Can you describe its contents? 4 Why had the curtain behind the sofa in front of the side window (a photograph of which was shown to her), been disturbed? Had someone passed behind this sofa? 5 How much time did you spend searching in the apartment after realising that your daughter Madeleine had disappeared? 6 Why did you say from the start that Madeleine had been abducted? 7 Assuming that Madeleine had been abducted, why did you leave the twins alone at home to go to the Tapas to raise the alarm, not least because the supposed abductor could still be in the apartment? 8 Why did you not ask the twins at that moment what had happened to their sister, or why did you not ask them later? 9 When you raised the alarm in the Tapas what specific words were used? 10 What happened after raising the alarm at the Tapas? 11 Did you have a mobile phone with you at that moment? 12 Why did you go to warn your friends instead of shouting from the balcony? 13 Who contacted the authorities? 14 Who took part in the searches? 15 Did someone outside the group learn, in the moments that followed, of Madeleine's disappearance? 16 Did any neighbour offer you help after the alarm was raised about the disappearance? 17 What did the expression "we let her down" mean? 18 Did Jane tell you that she had seen a man carrying a child that night? 19 How were the authorities contacted and which police force was alerted? 20 During the searches after police arrived, in which places were Madeleine searched for, and in what way? 21 Why did the twins not wake up during the search or when they went upstairs? 22 Whom did you telephone after the discovery? 23 Did you call Sky News? 24 Did you know of any danger of calling the media alerting them of the abduction, since this could influence the abductor? 25 Did you request the presence of a priest? 26 In what way was the face of Madeleine, in photographs or by other means, released? 27 Is it true that during the search you remained seated on Madeleine's bed in your room without moving? 28 What was your behaviour like during that night? 29 Did you manage to sleep? 30 Before the trip to Portugal did you make a comment about a bad feeling or premonition about it? 31 What was Madeleine's behaviour like? 32 Did Madeleine suffer from any infirmity or take medication? 33 What was Madeleine's relationship like with her brother and sister, friends and fellow pupils? 34 Regarding your professional life, in how many hospitals and in which ones did you work? 35 What was your speciality as a doctor? 36 Do you work shifts in emergency wards or other departments? 37 Do you work in the daytime? 38 Why did you stop working at a certain point? 39 Is it true or not that the twins have difficulty falling asleep, that they are restless and that this upsets you? 40 Is it true or not that at certain times you felt desperate at your children's attitude and that this upsets you a lot? 41 Is it true or not that in England you went so far as thinking about handing over Madeleine to a relative to look after? 42 At home (in England) did you give medication to your children and what kind of medication? 43 (Various films had been shown to her of the inspection by forensic dogs, where one can see their signalling indications of the scent of a human corpse and traces of human blood as well as the comments by the expert overseeing the exercise.) Having seen the film and after the scent of a corpse was signalled in her bedroom near the wardrobe, and behind the sofa by the window in the sitting room, Kate McCann said she could not explain anything more than she already had. 44 She was asked about the sniffer dog that signalled human blood behind the above-mentioned sofa. She said she could not explain anything more than she already had. 45 She was asked about the scent of corpse which was signalled in the vehicle she hired about a month after the disappearance, with number plate 59-DA-27. She said she could not explain anything more than she already had. 46 When the presence of human blood was signalled in the boot of the same vehicle Kate McCann said she could not explain anything more than she already had. 47 Confronted with the result of the sample of Madeleine's DNA, whose analysis was carried out by a British laboratory, found behind the sofa and in the boot of the vehicle, as previously described, Kate McCann said she could not explain anything more than she already had. 48 Did you have any responsibility or involvement in the disappearance of your daughter Madeleine? 49 Are you aware that the fact of your not answering the questions put to you jeopardise the investigation that was aimed at finding out what happened to your daughter, she answered: "Yes, if the investigation thinks that." 50 Do you have anything to add? She said: "No." 51 Her lawyer was asked to comment. He said he had nothing to state or request. |
|
By:
it doesnt look good not answering those questions but some of the questioning looks like blatant fishing.

They do have a positive DNA for Madeleine - all it proves is she most likely shed blood/bodily fluids in the apartment. Doesn't say anything about who was there or what actually happened.

Don't think this case will ever be solved , unless maddie is found alive.
or they turn the attention closer to home....I don't care what you say, after reading the police statements of friends who'd holidayed with the McCanns (i've put a link up) in the past, and that of Retired Lawyer Tony Bennett, which also has a link on here...Then i cannott understand why they are not the chief suspects, ..Poor little girl |

By:
All these spurious sightings, years old, giving very wide ranging descriptions of men that may have / may not have had something to do with this, is all very half baked.
You could drive a coach and horses through the new evidence. The police, both british and portugese, have absolutely no idea of what really happened. The only way this is ever going to get solved is by someone breaking ranks and coming clean - an admission of guilt - This won't be solved by plod |

Well, all things considered, it is pleasing to see that this case has received a boost of public interest.
Perhaps some good may come of this, or perhaps it may not. But I don't think that any of you can deny that they are doing an excellent job of maintaining the effort required to reach a conclusion to this case. When all else has gone...there is still Hope. |

the fact that officers bore the mark of a pre planned abduction
rather gives a lie to the McCann's claim the crime was opportunistic, she was only ever left alone once ![]() nobody was would plan an abduction on the off chance she may be left alone they must have been fairly certain, the only way they could have been, is if Madeleine was being left alone every night as indeed she was ![]() Have the McCann's even admitted this, if they have not, they themselves have been hampering the investigation have they not they get no forgiveness from me, first must come confession |

well they should not BB
![]() By lying to the Portuguese police to start with, how do the police know that the McCann's are not lying in their other evidence? Leaving their children alone regularly bordered on neglect in my opinion, but is not itself a capital offence So they had to be totally honest from the start, it enables the police to build up a more accurate idea of what may have happened The life of their daughter, surely that comes first, the police must know everything to have any chance |

I have watched last nights crime watch twice now. The 1st time left me livid, with it's pisspoor journalism and avoidance of the obvious facts that cannot be disputed. The prog never got any airtime on 5 live this morning either.
After watching for a second time, it became obvious that it was just a pro- propagander prog for the McCanns. Starting with the happy times they had as a family, which is always guaranteed to pull the heart strings and divert away from the actual facts. It was also obvious that it was stage managed, with advance knowledge of the questions, to learning their replies, to learning about sitting posture and body language. But what they failed to learn was English. When asked about Maddies birth, Gerry replied along the lines of she WAS a McCann ( past tense) and not IS ( present tense) , indicating to me that he knows she is no longer alive. We now also know that Jane Tanner is a liar, she has given at least 4 different accounts of events, each contradicting the other. Why has the timeline suddenly changed after all these years? This sounds like some big coverup for some reason. And with that inspector running the show, the arrest and jailing of a patsy is not too far away. Just hope Barry George was nowhere near Portugal at the time. Whatever peoples beliefs are surrounding the facts, the 1 undeniable one is, that the parents were the last to see Maddie, and we only have their word of what happened between 5pm and their departure to the tapas bar. |

I hereby declare that this statement is true to the best of my knowledge and belief and that I make it knowing that if it is tendered in evidence I will be liable to prosecution if I state in it anything which I know to be false or do not believe to be true.
I would like to state that the statement I made on 26th May 2007 in Portugal is correct. The description of the individual that I saw on 3rd May 2007 carrying a child is as follows. He was average build, 5 foot 10” in height, brown hair cut short, aged 40 years approximately. Wearing beige trousers and darkish top maybe a jacket or blazer. He had a full head of hair with a tight cut. This individual was alone. I saw Gerard McCann (sic) going down the plane stairs carrying one of his children on 9th September 2007 BBC news at 10 PM, I have been shown the video clip by Sergeant Hogan which I recognise. A clip I have seen before on the Internet. In relation to the video clips of Gerard McCann and the person I saw on 3rd May 2007 when I saw the BBC news at 10 PM on 9th September 2007 something struck me that it could have been the same person. It was the way Gerard McCann turned his head down which was similar to what the individual did on 3rd May 2007 when we met him. It may have been the way he was carrying the child either. I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann that I met that night carrying a child. I am basing that on his mannerism in the way he carried the child off the plane. After seeing the BBC news at 10 PM, footage on the 9th September 2007 I contacted Leicestershire police with this information. During that time I spoke to all my family members who were with me on the night of 3rd May 2007 about this and the only one who felt the same way as me was my wife. She had seen the video clip of Gerard McCann walking down the stairs of the plane earlier that day. We did not discuss this until some days later. This statement has been read over to me and is correct. The workers at the Tapas bar can't confirm Gerry was seated at the table at the time but his friends are the only witnesses that can confirm he was. Martin Smith is 60-80% sure it was Gerry but when the investigators report the sighting by Mr Smith Gerry McCanns name is never mentioned so why do they report him as a 'potential' witness then say he's unreliable because McCanns friends say he was with them at the Tapas bar at this time ![]() |

To be honest I'd be shocked if you didn't find DNA from a 3 year old in a room she had been staying in. Not sure what is being suggested by that? All that indicates it that some cellular material from her was shed by her in the apartment. In a hotel room there's probably dozens of different peoples DNA.

Whatever the answers are in this case everyone knows the parents say one thing but do another!
The little girl, then aged three, spoke to her mother because she had left her and twins Sean and Amelie alone in the night. Mrs McCann’s statement said: "While we were having breakfast, Madeleine said: 'Mummy, why didn’t you come when we were crying last night?’. "Gerry and I spoke for a couple of minutes and agreed to keep a closer watch over the children." A closer watch indeed. |
