Although what you read was thought provoking it is worth reminding that the retired solicitor who published those claims was found guilty in Courtfor his claims.

"Mr Bennett has pursued an incessant campaign against them, repeatedly making false accusations against them, and ignoring the fact that the Portuguese authorities confirmed there was simply no evidence to implicate them in the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine.

Bennett, who was ordered to pay the costs of the litigation, apologised to the court.

He added: "I recognise the distress I have caused on a number of occasions to the claimants. I would like to apologise to them for that distress."

Mr Justice Tugendhat said 65-year-old Tony Bennett deliberately flouted legal undertakings, given in November 2009, not to repeat allegations about the couple.

He said his conduct was so serious that nothing less than a custodial sentence of three months suspended for one year would reflect the harm he had done.

Finding Bennett guilty of contempt of court, the judge added: "I am sure that he intended to allege that the claimants are to be suspected of causing the death of their daughter, and did in fact dispose of her body, lie about what happened and covered up what they had done."

The judge, at London's High Court, said he was satisfied that Bennett, of Harlow, Essex, was in breach of the undertakings in each of the 13 representative instances before the court - out of 153 publications complained of.

Maddie "where were you when we were crying  last night" Sad

Wow,I'd never leave my child if she said that to me

I thought it was bad enough leaving the kids but after madeleine had obviously had a traumatic experience the previous evening they still did the same thing the very next night knowing if  she woke up alone again she would be in a right state, deplorable actions in my opinion, I do hope she is still alive but my sympathies for the parents are virtually non existent.

No i would say he highlighted many contradictions, inconsistencies and blanks in the version given but just went too far in suggesting the parents were behind the disappearance.

I did not see the crimewatch show but I have always thought why would the McCanns be so unhelpful in answering all questions put to them. If my child went missing I would not care what accusations were being made about me because my life would be in such ruins that it did not matter. My upset would not come into it regarding what other people thought. I would ask to take a lie detector test not to show my innocence but so that the missing persons appeal could be focussed in the right direction.

Just watched the news footage. The eye witness account of a man carrying a little girl in pyjamas in the area at the time surely does show the McCanns innocence. There must have been more than one eye witness account confirming the same thing for the police to go with this version of events.
By:

When: 15 Oct 13 07:04
Have to admit I always thought the McCanns were guilty but if several different eye witnesses have independently reported the same sighting and description of the man carrying a little girl in pyjamas who looked like madeline its certain she was abducted by a stranger. There was always bound to be some holes in the McCanns version of events even if they were innocent. I thought they were guilty due to the things they did not do after the event.

But its just impossible that several eye witnesses could not only make up some story about the man carrying the child in pyjamas but also that their stories would all tie up.

What kind of abductor carries a child in his arms across a town? Sounds like the most poorly planned caper in history. But when we go back to Martin Smith's statement: "I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann that I met that night carrying a child" it starts to make sense.
By:

Why would Gerry McCann be carring Madeline across the town in his arms even if he was guilty of something? They would have to carry Madeline out of the apartment and into a car but carrying her across the town in her pyjamas when she was dead?

How would they have got rid of the body if they did kill her then? If they did kill her what exact time frame was there between her last sighting by anyone other than the McCanns and when the police were called?

it was said there was a night credhe with lots of children in the area

one sighting has already been shown to be due to that, this may be another

they didnt state how many of the parents collecting their kids have been accounted for

When the British police started their own investigation did they start as you would expect by treating the McCanns as at least potential suspects?

Surely a number of witnesses saw the same thing for the police to be so certain in pinning their whole theory on a planned abduction and the man carrying the child in pyjamas to be central to that. Or am I missing something.

I am guessing there were not many cctv cameras in the area to help with investigations.
By:

When: 15 Oct 13 08:13
The only certainty is that the McCanns killed their child or did not. But had they the opportunity to get rid of her body if they did. When was the last time Madeline was seen by anyone other than her parents.
By:

When: 15 Oct 13 08:35
So, to sum up.

Forget the red-herring child abductor guy that Tanner identified,

and concentrate on the fact that Gerry was carrying Madeleine in the

opposite direction, as identified by witnesses.

But for now we can only show an e-fit version of Gerry.

And, everything else is just padding for effect.
By:

When: 15 Oct 13 08:59
At the time a person who looked like Gerry McCann was said to be seen carrying a child the other people at the tapas bar said he was with them. Would they all lie and try to cover up the killing.

If that person really was Gerry McCann then Madeline was alive with him at the time. You might be able to accept some kind of accident happened and Madeline was killed by her parents but would he carry his daughter in his arms through town and then kill her and rush back to make up some other story. Ridiculous argument to think this person was Gerry McCann on the night in question.

Why do people keep spouting on about

killing her on purpose?
By:

When: 15 Oct 13 09:18
There is an argument to say that the body

would have to have been refrigerated/frozen

for it to have transported it in the hire car weeks later.

(without too much mess)

Didn't Gerry's brother use the car while they were hob-nobbing

with the pope?

(massive distraction away from portugal for the worlds press)

Kate said first thing she thought of was abduction, but surely it would be child waking up,wondering off looking for parents?

this sighting isn't a eureka moment,Portuguese police took a statement off the Irish couple

if you kidnap a child you don't wonder thru town carrying it

If maddie died accidently by fall or a drug o/d t o keep her quiet, there seems to small a time period to dispose of body

the British police still have no idea, they never gave reasons why the abductor(if there was one)used a window
By:

i agree that its hard to believe the abductor would walk down the street carrying her but if that sighting is not her this case will never be solved because last nights programme didnt really show anything else

builders-----there everywhere on these complexes
charity workers---every time I go Portugal,Spain---a penny a dozen
two guys arguing---who doesn't on holiday
man couple carrying child,a penny a dozen holiday resorts

it was a letdown

biggest shock for me was Kate saying

maddie asked "where were you when we were crying last night"

And then proceeded to leave them alone again other nights

you would have thought that would have been enough for any mother to say, "I'll pass tonight and stay with the children." It is incomprehensible to me how she went out again that next night, leaving her 3 VERY young children.

Like most I too watched Crimewatch last night and one mad thought popped up in my head - is all of this a double buff against the McCanns?

The Portuguese police never seemed to buy the abduction theory.  Is it beyond belief that the McCanns and/or the Tapas 9 have been monitored all this time?  Weren't that couple who suffocated one of their daughters in front of another daughter (who then went on to burgle the house) audio monitored for over a year in order to get evidence?  Any police on here - would that happen, would that degree of surveillance be authorised in a case like this?

To me, there seemed to be no really new evidence shown on Crimewatch, is all this a case of giving the McCanns want they want in the hope they and/or their friends will finally expose themselves.  Did Cameron only authorise this supposed re-opening because the on-going monitoring had made it worthwhile...

The more you look into the dog evidence it seems irrefutable that Madeleine did die in that apartment, despite Gerry's dismal of cadaver dogs.  Two dogs both indicate in the same spot, blood under floor tiles... and yet the McCanns dismiss out of hand that she could have been killed and her body taken.
