A police cordon was put up in Morden today after a serious incident.

The incident took place in Aberconway Road, at the one-way system around Merton Civic Centre, and there is a police cordon around Morden police office and Ladbrokes bookmakers.

Two independent residents have said they heard the incident was a "stabbing", but this is yet to be confirmed by police.

these shops have thousands of pounds in them, and shockingly manned early morning and evening by one staff, they also have to take all the flak from all the addicts on the machines. Ladbrokes and all bookmakers should be ashamed of themselves

The big firms should, certainly. elis - but this doesn't apply to all bookies.
I hope the police look harder for the perpetrator than they usually do for crimes against betting shops.

Man murdered at Labrokes betting shop in Aberconway Road, Morden

5:31pm Saturday 25th May 2013 in Top stories  By Omar Oakes  http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/topstories/10444535.Man_murdered_at_Labrokes_in_Morden/?ref=nt

A man has been murdered at a betting shop in Morden.

Officers were called to Ladbrokes, in Aberconway Road, Morden, after paramedics discovered the dead man at the scene at 10.30am.

He was a 55-year-old who had suffered serious injuries.

A police spokesman said it appears the man was attacked in the shop by a lone, male suspect.

Police did not say whether the victim was a member of Ladbrokes staff or a customer, or whether the murder was committed in connection with another crime.

Metropolitan Police officers from the homicide and serious crime command are investigating and are awaiting confirmation for the man's next of kin to be informed, before he identified.

A post-mortem examination will be held at noon tomorrow at St George's Hospital mortuary.

A cordon was put up around the Ladbrokes shop and Morden police office next door.

Police did not say whether the victim was a member of Ladbrokes staff or a customer, or whether the murder was committed in connection with another crime.

No details have yet been released by police about the suspect. There is also no information of any arrests made.

The spokesman said it is not known at this time whether any money was taken.

Anyone with information should call police on 020 8721 4054. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

Ladbrokes spokesman Ciaran O'Brien said : "Ladbrokes can confirm that following a serious incident this morning at a shop in Morden a staff member has died.

"The company's priority at this time is to provide the family, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies, with all the necessary support at this difficult time. We are also providing every required resource to assisting the police in their investigation."

Extraordinary to think that Cyril Stein, the hardest-nosed, most cynical and most profit-driven boss of any bookmaker in his day, said that if one of Ladbrokes' shops couldn't be profitable with two members of staff at all times, then it shouldn't be open.

The local Ladbrokes who my mate is the manager, opens on her own, gets a cashier between 1 and 6 and closes on her own. Her husband sits in the shop in the evening to look after her.

Such a shocking thing that happened today and my deepest sympathies to the man's family. You go to work to earn a crust and end up paying the ultimate price. So very sad.Cry

A look at the sentence above renders your plea obsolete, elisjohn.
