Day 66 and another 2lbs lost making 2stone 3lbs in total. My thoughts are it's up to the individual to work out what they think will work best for them.I'm actually on a 4/3 where I eat nothing at all on a tuesday, thursday and sunday.I began thinking it was a very strict way of doing it but it appears that I might have it just about right in that I'm losing about 1 or 2lbs a week. This is probably because of lack of exercise and 3 trips to the pub each week.
I would guess anyone choosing a really strict diet will eventually put it back on as it can't be maintained forever and old habits will appear again.I really believe I have found an eating plan that over time I can tweak once I've lost what I want to lose. It hasn't been just the 4/3 for me as I've virtually eliminated processed food from my diet. There has been a little negative impact to my life doing this in that I get awful hangovers on just 6 or 7 pints now.On the plus side though that amount def gets me p*ssed and I haven't the need to want to drink more.I'm giving the pub a miss for two weeks which should save me about just over 7000 calories so that will be interesting when I weigh myself. The biggest downside for me has been my sleeping. It's never been great but at the moment the days I fast does make me sleep less which is I guess because I'm hungry. This isn't for everyone though my brother at 20 stone tried it and it made him feel sick and he couldn't handle it.The nice thing is though seeing my weight loss has motivated him to go on a diet and he's lost 10lbs so really pleased for him. The program really has changed my life and given me a tool at which I finally feel I can control my weight with. Again good luck to everyone |

Another well done bigmo terrific stuff mate and what a good post...like you, the prog has transformed me and mrs twizzles lives . I am so passionate about this regime now i've got to be careful as i can feel myself becoming a bit of a bore when i discuss it with others. Again, like you, its the beer that i love and this way it seems i can pamper my alcoholic tendencies to my hearts content ( 2 pints a night man me on non fasting day) without leaving me with that massive belly i had earlier this year ( was 38 inch waist, now 33/34)...keep posting bigmo and i will watch your weight loss with great interest.

Thanks for the very kind words twizzle and a big well done to you and your wife in what you're achieving as well. Going back to the first time I looked into this thread after I had decided to give it a go I was a little unsure about posting. One of the nice things is how interesting and supportive everyone has been to each other. That really is a rare thing nowadays on the net.
It's been a pleasure to pop in and post how it's all going. |

Well done bigmo.
Just a little help on eating. I bought magnesium supplements (£2 from Tesco) that I take before bed as I had the same problem as you. I sleep like a baby now. Also make sure no electronics at least 2 hours before you sleep. These 2 small things transformed my sleeping. Its amazing to get up feeling refreshed. |

well done bigmo
i need to cut the crisps chocolates out- on an eating day 1 is a trigger for 4/5 |
By:
day 2 for me. Yesterday was fasting day. It seemed pretty easy to survive by thinking about all the food i get to eat today. Chocolate croissant for breakfast. Lemon chicken, fried rice and spring rolls for lunch. I'll be amazed if this diet works but its way more fun that any others ive attempted.

just coming to the end of a fasting 24 hours, will be having dinner tonight.
It went ok, had some headaches this afternoon, nothing major though. Not sure that a 24 hr fast will do the job, feel like I could catch up the calories quite easily. Maybe a full day is needed (breakfast, lunch and dinner) |

By:

Think its week eight..just weighed in at 11stone 11lb...a loss of three pounds which to me is quite ridiculous..got smashed on saturday night on 3 pints of numbers and a bottle of grigio..full blown indian on sunday and numerous cakes and biscuits in between. I must confess my two fasting days this week were tough ( mon, tues) but more than worth it when i stood on the scales this morning.Mrs twizzle was a bit despondent as her weight stayed the same but she still has lost a stone since the start..g/l to all and keep at it lads and lasses.

i think there is pretty good evidence that the 24 hour fast doesn't work as well for women
i think they tend to respond pretty well on the 16/8 protocol each day. |
By:
d13phe..could you outline what the actual 16/8 protocol is exactly..cheers
By:
16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window each day.
so basically skipping breakfast each day and eating from 12-8 or 1-9 |

well done twizzlee
11 11 a great weight what is your target weight ? |

Brilliant thread lads.
Bigmo well done, can I ask how do you feel generally have you more energy or the same as before? I am almost 6ft tall,12st7lb so not overweight and can eat what I like and don't put on weight and am almost 50,my problem is one of feeling lethargic most of the time and groggy in the mornings even when I don't have a drink the night before,A REAL DEFICIT OF ENERGY if you like. Finally has anyone tried the cleanse method yet |
By:
Thanks d13phe...she has read your post and plans to introduce it into her lifestyle starting tomorrow.
Appreciate that capt..i'm where i want to be right now..as i have previously stated i'm 6ft tall so to lose anymore weight would make me look extremely gaunt..to look in the mirror and not see a massive gut hanging over my trousers is the only incentive i need not to slip back into my old 24/7 binging/drinking lifestyle. |
By:
G Hall thank you for the kind words. Provided I get a reasonable sleep I definitely have more energy. In fact I slept very well last night and feel fantastic today.I have also been sleeping a little better of late and just hoping it isn't down to the fact I haven't drank for 9 days.I intend to stay off it for another 5 days so will see how things are when I'm drinking again.
I don't want to stop drinking but would have to consider it as I actually feel tip top at the moment. |

bigmo
are you going to do a weigh in at the end of your booze fast? that would make for an interesting experiment I have seriously cut down my alcohol intake over the past couple of years to one night out a month and a couple of glasses (not bottles) of good wine with my meal a couple of Friday nights. I don't really miss it tbh |
By:
It's weighing day tomorrow d13phe and I'm really interested to see if it will make a difference.I can't say I've missed drinking either.I guess thinking about it I'm heading in the same direction as when I was working nights I would come home and drink 6 to 8 cans every morning before I went to bed.At the time I felt it was pretty normal and ok as I could, and did, stop many times and it didn't bother me. Since I've retired over a period of three years I've stopped drinking at home and looking back I can see my drinking was excessive.

Day 73 and after 10 days off the beer my weight loss amounted to 2lbs this week making a total loss of 2 stones and 5lbs.I think the amazing thing with this fasting is in my case the fact that I've lost something every single week since starting it.Even the contestants on the biggest loser have had times when they've put weight on.I'm at ease with what I'm doing and 1lbs or 2lbs a week is fine.

well done bigmo inspirational story |

well done bigmo great stuff! what was your starting weight? were you overweight to start with? just interested because i'm starting it. Finding fast days harder than i thought!!
What do you eat (if anything) on a fast day? well done again!! :) |
By:
Thank you capt and upthedron. I started off at 17stone 9lbs and don't eat at all on fast days and on the days I do eat I no longer touch processed food only eat fresh veg, chicken and fish or maybe rice.I always mention my lack of exercise as I would think most working men would not need to be as strict as I've been.If you're finding the fast days hard why not have say up to 500 calories when you're at your hungriest. It's worth experimenting with what is going to suit you best as a new eating plan will have to be maintained for ever if were going to keep the weight off.Hope that doesn't sound preachy and good luck with it.
By:
you were a very similar weight to me. I have tried not eating anything, found it really tough!! going to try soup for lunch and soup for dinner, which will be just under 500 cals. Sounds like your weight loss is due to the fresh veg and chicken you've been having. Good work
By:
Another fine weight loss bigmo..congrats.Regarding exercise, is it not convenient for you to do some brisk walking, say, three times a week..maybe just for half hour each time, if so, i think you will lose even more than your losing at present..keep it up mate..very well done.
By:
upthedron...try this reciepe...i think its delicious...one teaspoonful of bouillon stock..cut up a few mushrooms, chuck some pieces of cooked chicken in and add some spring onion..add boiling water and voila....chinese and mushroom soup...very few calories, tasty and filling.
By:
I should make the effort twizzle but the cold wet outside just doesn't inspire at the moment.Poor excuse I know. If it was summer it wouldn't be an issue as I was walking daily then.

bigmo
there is loads of stuff you can do at home without any equipment 30 mins of exercise 3 times a week is all you need. will give you loads of energy and the weight will fall off on your diet. |
By:
Decided to do something positive and I've just been for a brisk 42 min walk.I'd like you all to know that I was thinking of you all as the bitter cold walloped around my lug holes lol. :-)
By:
well done bigmo, thanks for thinking of us keyboard warriors lol.Tell me the days you are fasting are you devoid of energy
By:
I can honestly say I've not felt this good for a long while. Def a lot more energy after a couple of weeks doing this and that includes fast days. I think it might have been twizzle that mentioned it first about having to not keep on about it to anyone who will listen. I've become the same.
By:
final question bigmo honest!! do you feel as strong as before or stronger or weaker,I do good bit of ecercise and would be worried about my strength falling awayv

By:
wow that is good to hear,am thinking of trying the raw food diet and then fasting like you guys, the mind is a big obstacle
By:
Glad you answered that one d13phe.I'm probably the least qualified to talk about exercise.Let us know how you get on G Hall if you go ahead with it.
