Following the departure of Nimrod we have a new kid on the block.

He (think it's a he) looks a handsome well fed chap, Foinavon. Obviously not a stray.
By:
Think you're right Kenny. A good thing about him is that he is not camouflaged so doesn't trouble the birds in my garden.
I wonder what would be a good name for him. I call him the Holy Ghost as he is completely silent, puts in an appearance only occasionally and disappears without trace. I would call him the Cheshire cat except he never smiles. |

By:
Thinking about it he might be Percy from the Hockney painting.

I've got a photograph of a maybe 8 year old Hockney on the sands somewhere, probably Brid or Scarborough, holding hands with his mum and my aunt. My aunt was a good friend of his mum and I phoned her when my aunt died, but she'd moved.
By:
I knew Hockney was born in Bradford Kenny, pity he didn't give your aunt one of his paintings.
He was born in 1937 so you would expect his mother would be a centenarian by now if still alive. |
By:
Oh, she would, well over 100 I would imagine, Foinavon. My aunt was born in 1902 and I imagine they were a similar age.My aunt was also a friend of Sir Edward Appleton's sister, but I've only known one poster on here who's heard of him. His name was Assessor, long gone.
By:
Interesting coven, your aunt's. Had a vague feeling that I had heard the name but had to google him. Nearly 50 years since I last attended a physics lecture.
By:
Funnily enough of the 4 "Houses" at school I was in Appleton House which took its name from Sir Edward who attended there.
Hated physics, sat at the back of the class with pals working out next week's chart placings as we had a betting competition going.Forecast the Top 20. lol |
