The first prosecution witness in the Joanna Yeates murder trial is due to take the stand this morning, just one day after jurors were shown her home and nearby final resting place.

Vincent Tabak joked about the Joanna Yeates murder investigation at dinner parties, a court heard today.
The 33-year-old calmly discussed the case with friends, "light-heartedly" suggesting police looked for a body in his drawer, the jury was told.

Jurors heard about a dinner party held on the 15 January this year at a house in Bristol, hosted by friends of Tabak and his girlfriend Tanja Morson.

In one of the most striking pieces of evidence read out today, the court also heard how the dinner party discussion turned to the subject of the mindset of Jo Yeates's killer.
Louise Apthorpe recalled commenting that evening: "I wonder how the murderer must be feeling... If it was me, I wouldn't be able to sleep".
Sarah Maddock, who was sitting next to Tabak that night, also remembered how they discussed that someone other than the culprit must have known about it, that the offender's partner must have noted strange behaviour.
"I remember Vincent agreed," said Ms Maddock.
"And then he said: 'Either that - or someone would have to be a totally detached crazy person to be able to act normally after doing something like that.'"
According to those present, he didn't appear at all uncomfortable or anxious that evening as they discussed what the prosecution has previously called "his terrible secret". At one point he was said to have even made a light hearted remark about opening a drawer during a police search so that they could look for a body.
Vincent Tabak, who admits manslaughter but denies murder, made notes throughout this morning's evidence session.
Joanna Yeates's parents sat a few metres away, listening quietly.

Bristol Crown Court has heard evidence today from pathologist Dr Russell Delaney who recorded 43 separate injuries on her body.
A post-mortem showed that she died of neck compression.
During Dr Delaney's evidence, Tabak covered his face with his hands as close-up pictures of Miss Yeates were shown on big screens.
He removed his glasses and wiped his eyes as the young woman's snow-covered corpse was shown.

Dr Delaney described her bruises and grazes and said the injuries on Miss Yeates' neck were "consistent with force being applied while Joanna was alive".
"Bruising only occurs when the heart is beating - so the injuries occurred during life," Dr Delaney added.
He said the pattern of injuries sustained indicated "manual strangulation" but said her death had not been "instantaneous".

The jury heard that there was no evidence of "direct sexual violence".

The defence mitigation is going to be interesting, I do worry that he will beat Murder verdict .

fks sake. It was christmas. Her boyfriend was away. She was lonely so texted an old friend. What is wrong with that?

There may be some similarities here with the murder of Rachel McLean who was strangled by her BF John Tanner after saying she wanted to finish with him. Although Tabak seems to have hardly known Jo rejection may have been the catalyst. Amazingly Tanner only served 12 years before release.

Still expecting murder though.
