Why is Jefferies still a suspect,  thought it was normal practice to release any other suspects
after someone has been charged ?

Police obtained two extensions to keep Mr Jefferies detained for the maximum time limit but released him early on police bail, without charge, on January 1.

a) Police keeping him back in case they need a replacement.

b) They haven't been able to eliminate him so they feel he might have done it.

c) They need something to threaten him with when he sues them for wrongful arrest.

or all 3.

Perhaps he didn't do it. Or have we overlooked that possibility?

I think it's probably safest NOT to assume that he did it. Why do you think he did? You didn't think that last week.

VT doesn't have to go in to JO's flat.

One scenario, she gets home carrying lots of stuff. Puts pizza down to free hands to open door. Gets in but slightly tipsy so forgets pizza. Takes shoes off. Opens cider, quick drink before pizza. Hey where's my pizza? Oh...must have left it outside. Goes outside, door closes behind her.

Apparently no sign of struggle.... would explain why body had to be removed from scene but all her stuff still in her flat.

Background information about the appeal

Landscape architect Joanna Yeates was last seen alive and well on the evening of Friday 17th December, 2010. On Christmas Day, her snow-covered body was discovered, eight days after she had disappeared from her flat in Clifton, Bristol. She had been strangled and dumped on a roadside verge, three miles from where she lived. Joanna finished work at 6pm and headed to the Bristol Ram pub on Park Street with colleagues. She left at around 8pm and ten minutes later, is seen on CCTV going into the Waitrose supermarket on the Clifton Triangle. She left, empty-handed, a few minutes later and continued up Richmond Hill before turning left on to Queen's Road.

At 8.13pm, Joanna called her best friend, Rebecca Scott, to arrange meeting up on Christmas Eve. She sounded happy and was excited about the holidays. This is the last phone call we know Joanna made.

She is next seen on CCTV at 8.24pm in Bargain Booze on Regent Street, Clifton. She bought two 600ml bottles cider and then walked up the road to Tesco. CCTV shows her using the self checkout to buy a Tesco Finest Mozzarella, tomato and Basil Pesto pizza at 8.28pm. This is the last time we know for certain that Joanna was alive and well. It is only a short distance to her flat on Canynge Road, Clifton, from there.

Joanna lived with her boyfriend, Greg Reardon. The last time he saw or spoke to Joanna was on Friday afternoon. He then spent the weekend in Sheffield.

When he returned home at around 8pm on Sunday 19th, he discovered the flat was empty. He tried calling Joanna, only to discover her mobile in her coat pocket. Her purse and keys were also all inside as were the coat and boots she usually wore. Detectives also found receipts for the shopping she'd bought that night along with the bottles of cider. The only things missing were Joanna and any trace of the pizza she had bought.

After ringing around friends and family, he realised no-one had seen or heard from Joanna since Friday evening and he reported her missing to the police.

A week later, on Christmas Day, Joanna's body was found by a couple walking their dog on Longwood Lane on the outskirts of Bristol. The heavy snowfall that week meant her body was hardly visible and that she had lain there for several days. She wasn't wearing a coat or shoes and one of her socks was missing.



So a few things.

She phoned her friend at 8.13 NOT 8.30 which had been reported previously, maybe just mishearing by the journo involved.  And it looks like she had just got off the phone to Rebecca as she entered Bargain Booze which maybe explains the smiling.

600ml bottles of cider mentioned this time.

So the cider was either:

600ml

Up to now VT has been in 3 prisons and had no change of clothing.

Also, I think most girls would take the erm, unbricking as a bit forward.

The brick thing could be done, over a period of time he hacks off the plaster
from his side then gets to work on the mortar joints with brick cleaning acid.

For some reason I still find myself wondering if the boyfriend found the flat door lock or unlocked on his return. And still no defining comment, to my limited knowledge.

naydam... I would imagine the front door would have a 'yale' type lock on it, therefore it would probably have been locked. I know that doesn't really answer the question though. I still have misgivings about why the BF was eliminated from enquiries almost immediately though..and I still have him in the frame, albeit as an outsider now, somehow involved in all this. And misgivings about the whole enquiry as well, they way police witheld so much info.. eg the sock, and other things.

interesting concerning the change in size of the bottles and the times.

I've personal experience of newspapers getting their facts wrong ( though not in a criminal enquiry I hasten to add ) so it could be that as they were desparate for quotes and were probably throwing money round to anyone they felt had access to info.

It's also likely that the police could leak the wrong info deliberately to test whether callers or people interviewed knew differently.
