The Wurzles successfully sued seventies songstress Melanie for copy-write infringement when she brought out her hit single "Brand New Key" which was found to be almost completely based on their original song "Combine Harvester".

It transpired that Melanie heard Adge Cutler singing the song whilst he was drunkenly taking a dump behind a hedge outside a pub in Taunton in the late 1960s.

As a result Melanie was forced to transfer all royalties for her version of the song to the Wurzles and this in turn enabled them to afford to cut their own record which went on to be a platinum selling number one on both sides of the Atlantic
