many of us outgrew our religious upbringing and have no interest in it now.

chiming of bells every sunday is surely equivalent to the kerrching! of cash registers to a religion that preaches poverty, how pathetic!

The silly thing is, if someone who had a strong believe started arguing back you'd soon say they were preaching, yet you've just given out a lot of abuse to anyone that believes.

You are preaching. Why can you not just respect peoples' views? Live and let live.

live and let live is fine! i would be happy with a few shreds of evidence that was more compelling than the evidence for the tooth fairy or santa, anyone who can provide this is most welcome!

I would however predict all those who believe in god have no evidence and therefore have basically been taken in by what has been rammed down their throats from birth

Buddists seem quite peaceful and tolerant,Christianity is also as such tolerant(ish) and peaceful as is Judasiam.Though it pains me to say it the "religion of peace" itself seems to be the percursor of much of the worlds conflict.

Nothing has been rammed down my throat. My family aren't religious. I couldn't tell you if my own family believed to be honest. It's a personal thing. It is definitely something I found on my own.

That is clearly not so. Many people convert from a non-religious upbringing.

I think its also a certain knowledge that we're all going to pop our clogs at some point. My Mum and Dad both died devout Christians despite living a less than perfect life for 90% of there years.

If there is a God, he's a very benign one. He only talks to individuals in their dreams.

The Universe is so complex and some of the mathmatical equations for it to exist are so huge it defys that it is merley an accident.

If your walking along a remote beach and you find a perfect watch in full working order, would you come to the comclusion that it was man made or as no one has ever walked on the beach that you know of that all the elements in the earth had somehow just arranged themselves into this watch?

The laws of nature never change and these laws are so precise.

Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winner for quantum electrodynamics, said, "Why nature is mathematical is a mystery...The fact that there are rules at all is a kind of miracle."

imagine a people who marvel at the acchievement of a society who 4000 years ago could build the pyramids and yet laugh at and dismiss their whole belief system purely because it differs to theirs!

Why are the ancient egyptians wrong and christians are right?

There cannot possibly be a God, if there were he would have never given my Dad mesothelioma. He truly did not deserve that cruel disease.

Einsteins scientific conclusions led him to think there was a God a creator of the Universe. But he couldnt reconcile the suffering in the world with an all loving God.

I think everyone believes a whole bunch of things without mathematical proof.

There is a sense of right and wrong , there is a sense illness is accepted as bad.

We accept these things as beeing true due to our personal experience of injustice and pain.

Christians believe that the injustice and pain we see are bad but were not part of Gods initial plan and they claim it is possible to experience Gods love in this world and the next.

I have a friend who had a riding accident and then suffered a stoke that has left her partially paralysed .

She is one of the most joyfull people you could meet and believes when she dies God will give her a new body that will be glorious.

While i did mention christianity i tried to avoid Catholics of course..their past is a hideous one and puts to shame all but the most firebrands of Wabism.

It's a disgusting religion that has only ever taken and supressed, and even if its slowly oh so slowly modernizing it still would happily deny contraception to its african followers.FFS catholics believe that the pope is gods man on earth LOL

HonestNovice, how convenient and comforting that " belief " seems and somehow easier than believing the opposite, as earlier stated, believing is not knowing, what is it based on is my query??

maleuk01., the problem with using the apparently infinitesimally small chance of our own existence to support the alleged existence of something called "God" (ie it was so unlikely it must have been designed/guided, etc) is that if it had happened any other way, and we hadn't been created, then we wouldn't be here to ask the question.

But just because we are evidently here doesn't mean we had to exist and were part of some grand plan. Indeed, consider the infinite other possibilities which will not have happened as the "opportunity cost" of the route along which the Universe has evolved.

Jesus was asked by Pilate

"What is truth?"

very similar to asking what do you mean by knowing

Jesus claimed he was "truth" and those who seek truth will find Him

Novice, im sorry! how do you know that is fact? what is your proof or even reason to believe that happened?
By:
maleuk01.
When: 29 Apr 10 23:53
what im saying slarty is that mathmatics suggest there is a creator due to the complexites of the universe even down to how complex dna is, and the instructions it carries out.

For anyone to say God doesnt exist 100% is nothing more than an idiot.

Religion is the biggest lie ever created

What is your evidence for this belief?

I had some Jehovah's Witnesses knock at my door last year, 2 old women. Normally I don't answer the door but on this day I did, by mistake. Problem with me is Im too polite to be honest. However I thought I will give them their chance to say what they want to say, first thing out of their mouths was

"Do you believe in God and how do you think the world is going"

So politely enough I said "No to be honest" in regards to believing in God, you should have seen their faces, to say they looked shocked would be a understatment.

Once they got over the shock of me not believing, they asked why is that to which I replied " Well It's just all the the bad things going on in the world, what type of god would let many starve and get all these disease and let them have their limbs blown of in the thousands in Iraq/ Afghanistan etc ?"

Their faces were a picture to behold and they could not answer me, they then said while I was correct, he is looking over me etc etc and tried to spin it onto something else. They gave me some leaflets and said they would knock back and were on their way. A polite/quiet meeting. But I hope I opend THEIR eyes maybe with my views as opposed to them opening MY eyes.
