Nothing has been rammed down my throat. My family aren't religious. I couldn't tell you if my own family believed to be honest. It's a personal thing. It is definitely something I found on my own This is a common delusion. It's actually the other way round. Many come to believe in God when they get older for example two famous atheists. C.S Lewis and Anthony Flew. |

I was bought up as catholic (dad's side) .. he's a bit of a freak though tbh
I always seriously rebelled from & rejected it .. caused havoc at school .. etc etc etc Truth is the more i look into it i'm not 100% sure (either way) and no i'm no fool I think it depends what you perceive as God |

That is clearly not so. Many people convert from a non-religious upbringing Valid |

bon viv, what religion instigated the inquisition and stood shoulder to shoulder with the soldiers who conquered and "converted" the citizens of south america 500 years ago wether they liked it or not! That would be the Roman Catholic church. God only knows if they were real chrsitians or not.You also have to take into account that they were barbaric times as well. |

cristo, you found christianity on your own ??? in a land full of.... CHRISTIANS!! how amazing you did not find islam or shinto and you with no outside influence!! how amazing!

I think its also a certain knowledge that we're all going to pop our clogs at some point. My Mum and Dad both died devout Christians despite living a less than perfect life for 90% of there years. Yes my mother died a Christian. This was another answer to prayer. My Mother was against Church just as much as many seem to be on this forum. Another example of how people change thier minds as they get older. |

against church?.. which church and what form did this angst take?

I'm not swayed either way .. thing is you can Never disprove it .. yet one day they might prove it .. |
|
By:
how???
|
|
By:
how could you disprove it ...
|
|
By:
little you ..
|
|
By:
there is no need to disprove something that after 2000 years has never been proved is there?

There cannot possibly be a God, if there were he would have never given my Dad mesothelioma. He truly did not deserve that cruel disease Slippy we have been over this one before. I told you what happened with my Mum and Dad. |

any good gambler knows that

By:
surely if a church wishes to ram their belief down my throat it is up to them to " prove " it

If there is a God, he's a very benign one. He only talks to individuals in their dreams What are you trying to say? |
|
By:
why is it ?
I agree it's far from the truth nowadys though .. just kiddy fiddlers & silly old dodgers ... |

was then asked if he accepted the "historical existence of Jesus," to which he replied, "Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life."
Words from a man cleverer than any of us. |

The books of the bible that refer to Pilate infact all recorded history are just that , some people argue that Shakespeare did not write all the plays with his name.
If you or anyone checks out google it will give you the dates of the earliest gospels written down. There will be other sites that do the same for the sack of carthage or the punic wars. I read a book a while back on |

The Universe is so complex and some of the mathmatical equations for it to exist are so huge it defys that it is merley an accident. If your walking along a remote beach and you find a perfect watch in full working order, would you come to the comclusion that it was man made or as no one has ever walked on the beach that you know of that all the elements in the earth had somehow just arranged themselves into this watch? The laws of nature never change and these laws are so precise. Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winner for quantum electrodynamics, said, "Why nature is mathematical is a mystery...The fact that there are rules at all is a kind of miracle valid. THE PROBABILITY OF THE OCCURRENCE OF A UNIVERSE IN WHICH LIFE CAN FORM The calculations of British mathematician Roger Penrose show that the probability of universe conducive to life occurring by chance is in 1010123. The phrase "extremely unlikely" is inadequate to describe this possibility. 10000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000 10 00000000000000000000000000000000 http://www.creationofuniverse.com/html/equilibrium03.html |

imagine a people who marvel at the acchievement of a society who 4000 years ago could build the pyramids and yet laugh at and dismiss their whole belief system purely because it differs to theirs! Why are the ancient egyptians wrong and christians are right my faith is based on the gospels. They are primary historical documents ( a primary source)written between 30-50 years of Jesus dieing. Eyewitnesses would have still been alive. Containing eyewitness testimony. |

i am still getting that nobody can come close to verifying god in any way!

Slippy Blue 29 Apr 23:37 There cannot possibly be a God, if there were he would have never given my Dad mesothelioma. He truly did not deserve that cruel disease. Einsteins scientific conclusions led him to think there was a God a creator of the Universe. But he couldnt reconcile the suffering in the world with an all loving God This has always been a problem. the thing is though when these things happen people usually turn to God or become bitter. For example the Haiti earthquake. Many couldn't believe that people in Haiti still believed in God and they had more faith than ever.Happens all the time. |

cristo, what is the faith of many other religions that have completely different stories to yours base on?

I think everyone believes a whole bunch of things without mathematical proof. There is a sense of right and wrong , there is a sense illness is accepted as bad. We accept these things as beeing true due to our personal experience of injustice and pain. Christians believe that the injustice and pain we see are bad but were not part of Gods initial plan and they claim it is possible to experience Gods love in this world and the next. I have a friend who had a riding accident and then suffered a stoke that has left her partially paralysed . She is one of the most joyfull people you could meet and believes when she dies God will give her a new body that will be glorious. This is true. Most of the people I know that are crippled or have illnesses are the ones with most faith. The one's who have an easy life and good health are often the unbelievers. Having a good life seems to often lead to people being self sufficient and thinking they don't need God. |

Despite the worlds greatest minds and others trying to come to a definantive answer one way or the other . I admire your faith that the collective brains trust of CHIT Chat could put this one to bed once and for all. --------------------------- Hold on , wait a minute thats it Got it Got it , yes it makes sense wow maybe I will get a noble prize for this yep the answer that evaded Newton, Einstein et al is ....... HonestNovice, how convenient and comforting that " belief " seems and somehow easier than believing the opposite, try telling that to the millions of Christians that have been persecuted over the last 2000 years. And the thousands that are being persecute around the world now. as earlier stated, believing is not knowing, what is it based on is my query [/b] |

An Atheist is about the only person who will never know they were right.
I would say the chances of microbes becoming humans from pure science is about as unlikely as a supreme being just rustling us up as a hobby in his cosmic back shed. SO for me on those two statements I would say yes there is a god and believing in one serves more purpose than not |
